What Angels Fear
question
Why do series get better with successive books?

I've been wondering for quite a while why an authors series books start out rated not so great, but do get better with successive books? Is it the author getting better at their craft, or is it more people finding and reading their books? What do you think? Have you noticed this, too?

I think it is the author. As authors gets to know their characters better, their readers fall in love with each new development. It takes an excellent writer to come up with new personality traits, unmask new secrets, come up with new and unusual plot points, etc.
I found many series that I loved in the beginning then around the tenth book, it feels repetitive. There isn't any forward movement of the characters, and the plots feel like repeats. It is also a good author who knows when it is time to end one series and start another.
