What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This was a book series that I started reading around 2006 plus or minus two years. There were three youths, each from a different realm, all on the outskirts of the rings of the cosmos as detailed in the book. The outer realms had almost no magic, but these three youth managed to have powers despite that.

Maybe spoilers beyond here?

Anthropomorphic guardians came to rescue them from attacks in their home realms after this weird guy sorta pointed out to them that they had powers. The only super specific things I remember, is that one of the guardians was an anthropomorphic orca. That one of the kids was from earth and had the power to transform things, finding out he had powers at a find the card thing where he kept picking the right card, but having it pointed out that due to his powers, all the cards were the card he was looking for.

Another kid was on a technologically advanced realm, where no-one ever left their home, and met each other in VR and had things delivered to their home, he questioned whether his friends were real at all, and ventured outside which was something that wasn't done. He found that all the houses looked the same and was quickly lost, he then discovered how their society was able to function despite everyone staying at home, as people who wandered out of their homes were basically captured as slaves and made to work to fulfill the needs of those who didn't question the way the world worked. This kid had the power of understanding/comprehension.

Oh, and in the first realm they jump to, the earth kid is kind of a tool and practices using his power to turn his crappy food/drink into sodas and handburgers.

This series has haunted me for years, I read like the first two books in the series in 2006 and then I joined the army, and by the time I had time to read again, (2014ish) I'd forgotten everything but the details I mentioned and I have been wanting to restart/finish the story all this time.

The request was solved! It was the Diadem series by John Peel. The first book is Book of Names and the plot description sounds promising!
