2015 Reading Challenge [Closed] discussion

I was actually at a family gathering yesterday telling my cousin about this reading challenge. I told him I was stuck on which book to read for the book with a number in the title. He immediately said I HAVE to read this book. He said it is somewhat hard to read, but it is an amazing book.

Thoughts?

I was thinking about this book too, but since it is my mom's favorite book, i'm saving it for "a book your mom loves" week! I will be looking foward your progress and opinion about it as you read! :D

I really liked it. The book is dense, it does cover six generations of a family or so, and it does not help matters that every dude is either called Jose Arcadio or Aureliano. That said, Marquez's magical realism is enchanting, and the narrative itself is spellbinding. It reads like a history book and a gossip magazine had a magical love-child, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Okay I'm in for the challenge of this book!

This is one of my favorite books of all time. The family line can get a little complicated at times, but this book is full of the 'magical realism' that Garcia-Marquez is known for. I can't recommend it highly enough. There is just something so enchanting about the story line. You won't want to put it down.

I definitely liked it, but I still have mixed feelings on this book. Just because of all the messy, biblically inappropriate relationships and that crazy (at least to me!) ending. Not necessarily one that I would recommend to all my friends and family. But I think I will like it more after I've had a little more time to process.

I started this a couple of days ago, I'm halfway through and I'm confused!! There are so many characters, they all have the same four names or so and I often find myself wondering where in the story I am.
I'll keep reading but it's definitely not an easy book.

I just finished the book and it definitely was challenging to keep up with the characters I constantly referred to the family tree at the beginning of the book. I think that it was easier to read this book in a short time period so that I could actually remember who is who. This book was worth the read though, challenging but rewarding.

I just finished this book yesterday. I really wanted to enjoy it but I have mixed feelings on this book. I only really enjoyed a few pages of every chapter.

I finished it a couple of days ago. Like you, Monique, I really wanted to like it, but I just didn't.
As mentioned earlier I had trouble keeping up with the names and who's who. My book didn't have a family tree, but it sure would have been a help. At one point I actually considered making one myself, but then I had to go back in the book and I simply couldn't be bothered.
