Betsy | 930 comments Welcome to our April 2020 Modern Classic/Popular group read! This month we’ll be reading The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.

Please keep in mind that this discussion is SPOILER FREE. If you’ve already leapt ahead, speak about it here.

What do you know about the book?

Veronika Sprague (notsocrunchy) | 14 comments This one just sounds fun. I do know it is quite the popular cult flick, but after reading the description and the first page it sounds like it's right up my alley as a C.S. Lewis / high fantasy fan. Looking forward to it!

Betsy | 930 comments Sounds like you hit the jackpot then. It definitely is for a high fantasy fan, and has such a great book-loving vibe.

CYIReadBooks (Claire) | 234 comments I watched the movie with my daughter when she was just a toddler. Can you imagine? It was 1984! I understand that the book is different from the movie, but that's okay. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Renee (elenarenee) I loved this book. You are in for a treat. The movie is fun but the book is amazing

Iris | 4 comments I'll also be reading along. I know of the story, of course, but I have to admit I am one of the 3 people in the world who have not yet seen the movie. I recently got a beautiful, colourful edition from a book exchange box for free, so now's the perfect time to finally start reading this. :)

Kevin | 1 comments I'm excited to finally read this book. This will also be the first time reading a book along with others in goodreads.

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'll give it shot. Iirc, I've read it before, but didn't fully appreciate it... a group read & discussion might enlighten me.

Kylie Stoneburner (lunchbox89) | 197 comments I’ve never read, but I have seen the movie. Although it’s been so long I’ve forgotten much. All I seem to remember is the big fluffy white dragon, and the fate of the horse.

Betsy | 930 comments Kylie, those two points also are stuck in my memory from the movie. Such emotional storylines and vivid images I think.

Cristina MG | 116 comments Hi guys! Reading your comments makes me want to read this book, but as I'm quarantined there's no way to find it because it isn't available in my library website. Do you where can I get it?

Renee (elenarenee) I hope you do get it Cristina. It will take you to a world very different from the walls which confine you.

I am lucky that my library has hoopla. I can download titles from home. Is this available to you?

Jerome (tnjed01) | 36 comments You can borrow a copy on archive.org

If you're up to it, there's a 30 day free trial for Scribd.com. They have the Big Five publisher books. I believe that it will be an audio book that will be available in the next few days. Check it out.

Luiz Fernando | 76 comments Hey guys!

I am reading this book, I just started reading the seconf half today.

It's amazing! The first half was a lot similar to the film I used to watch as a child. Was I the only one who would cry a river on that horse scene?

But the book is always better. This one is epic.

Cristina MG | 116 comments Thanks Renee, Tiffany and Claire. I'll check all this resources.

Jaclyn~she lives! catching up on reviews~ (jackyrin) | 83 comments I’m starting this one today! I’ve actually never seen the movie so I have no idea what I’m getting in to, but it looks fun. The version I got has red and green text which is really neat. Probably never would have chosen to read this myself, this book group is definitely widening my reading horizons
