Announcements We would like to announce that two new moderators have joined our team! SarahKat and Trisha are going to be helping us out with the buddy reads of which we have 35(!) this month. Please join us in welcoming them!
Tips from the Mods Are you afraid that you don’t have enough books to sit out the quarantine? Trying to make your books last because your library is closed? We have some tips for you! - First of all, now might also be a perfect time to show some love to the unread books on your bookshelves at home. - Depending on the regulations in your country, you can support your local bookstore by ordering a book online or by phone. - Many libraries let you borrow ebooks and audiobooks. No e-reader? There are lots of apps out there that let you read books on any device! - There are several ebook and audiobook subscriptions waiting for you to try out. And many have a free trial period!
Group Read Every month, our group votes on and reads a book together. You don't have to read the book, but we would love it if you did! Our April theme is Green and our group read for this month is The Green Mile by Stephen King, a very highly rated horror novel nominated by Bernadette. Feel free to join the discussion or post your review of the book! You can also vote for our May book with the theme of Oceans as well as nominate a book for June with the theme Weather!
Challenges Have you already signed up for one or more of our yearly challenges? No matter what kinds of books you enjoy, you’re sure to discover a challenge or two to suit your reading preferences. They also offer the perfect opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and try some new-to-you genres or authors!
We entered the second quarter of this year, which means that we have two brand new quarterly challenges for you! Based on our quarterly theme of Inspiration & Escape, Pinspiration encourages you “pin” books on inspirational boards. This challenge was created and will be led by Regina. The second challenge, Creativiy Island Escape, inspired and led by Carmen, will have you forget your worries by escaping into some great, creative reads!
We also offer two new monthly challenges for the monthly theme of “Green!” Join Shades of Green, led by Sunny, and collect as many shades of green as possible! Our second challenge, Springing into Green, offers ten prompts to celebrate the multiple facets of the color green. This challenge is created and led by Regina.
Do you have a great idea for a future monthly or quarterly challenge for 2020? Please let us know! Most of our quarterly and monthly challenges grow out of our members’ suggestions. We love hearing your creative ideas.
TBR Twins Share a book with an online friend while knocking off a read from your TBR list! You can sign up for May TBR Twins here, and we'll pair you with someone to read a book with next month. If you’ve signed up for April, your twins are posted here. Please reach out to your twin and choose a book to read together!
We know these are difficult times for a lot of people, and we're committed to continuing to provide a comforting, welcoming place for you all to discuss your shared love of reading. Stay safe and take care!
Kara, Winter, Ilona, Kristin, Rachael, Blagica, Megan, oshizu, SarahKat, and Trisha
