Hilary (renfrew) | 48 comments I read this last year, about this time/season. First time author. I think the heroine is named "Mary" (probably as a nod to Shelley). The female protagonist is a college professor? student? who lives a dark mansion and rents rooms to boarders. She was recently orphaned. Her father performed cloning experiments in the house (and, it turns out, on her). One of the issues related to the cloning is that the person had to be alive when the tissue sample is taken, since the cloned individual comes back at the age the person was when the sample was taken. A mad scientist? is trying to get his hands on the laboratory in Mary's home so he can reconstitute Jesus Christ? There's a love story, too...

Leigha | 11 comments Is it Patchwork Girl? I have it assigned for a course but I haven't read it yet. It was supposed to be a spinoff of Frankenstein

Hilary (renfrew) | 48 comments Thanks, Leigha. But that isn't it.

Mir | 802 comments Sounds like Mary Modern to me. I forget the author, but the main character is continuing her father's experiments. Then she becomes obsessed with having a baby and uses a DNA sample from her grandmother to make herself pregnant with a clone, who turns out the age her grandmother was when the sample was taken, with all her memories to that age. I didn't finish it so I don't know about the mad scientist part.
