Chan | 5093 comments I know Courtney enjoys shifters and vampires. I would be more than happy to read a couple of these. I don't want the tasks to be geared towards my interest.

Thanks for that, Chan! Fortunately though, I think we all have enough in common that for the few tasks where we have to collaborate we shouldn't have to pick something that one (or more) really isn't fond of. And, there is one task that requires us all to read PNR (actually PNR or fantasy), so you'll be stuck with it if we have that one selected for us!

Courtney | 2931 comments I have books on my TBR from these ones you guys have listed :

Megan March
Sawyer Bennett
Kylie Scott
Vi Keeland

message 54: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I think for 9, let's just do Historical. It seems like a lot of other genres are covered in other tasks. What do you think?

message 55: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I read a lot of shifter books generally because they're light and quick to get through 😂. Vampires are pretty hit or miss for me, though. They're either really well done or just bleh, so I don't read them too often. I've actually been on an MC kick lately, so I'm cool reading those, too.

MountainKat | 31601 comments Task 1 - ALL TEAMS!!

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.

Ready, Set, GO!

message 57: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Looks like we're off and running! And for once my timing was perfect...I was about 5 minutes (or less) away from starting a new book.

Unfortunately, we don't have any authors in common on all of our short lists. These are the ones on 3 out of 4:

Sawyer Bennett
Kylie Scott
Mariana Zapata

Any thoughts?

message 58: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Of those three, my first choice would be Kylie Scott since she's the only one on my current M&G list, but I'd be fine with either of the other two, or open to any other ideas!

message 59: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Kylie Scott is good for me. I already have Lick on my eReader.

message 60: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments okay. I can do kylie scott

message 61: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Let's go ahead and say Kylie Scott.
I'm going to reread Lick. Wanna start before bed.

Sounds like a plan. I loved that series...might be considering a reread myself if I didn't have Repeat on my M&G list! I'll be starting it tonight too.

message 63: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Karen, how do you list page numbers for audiobooks that don't have pages?

message 64: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Hey everyone! I just noticed this change from what we're used to in other team challenges in this group, so thought I'd share in case anyone else had also missed seeing it:

**For this challenge, use the GR Kindle first edition page count if available. Ebook page count will be acceptable if no Kindle page count available. The acceptability of other page counts will be made on an individual basis**

message 65: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Chan wrote: "Karen, how do you list page numbers for audiobooks that don't have pages?"

We were posting at the same time...does my post answer your question, or are you talking about something that's not available in Kindle/print?

message 66: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Sometimes audiobooks don't have a print version, so i was wondering how do we count page numbers for those. But I won't worry about that, i'll make sure to read something with a page count :o)

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to read Repeat and it states its only from audible but when I click other editions it gives a Kindle book with a page count of 304? That works, right?

message 68: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments hey sarah. yep. if there is page count on GR of 304 pages then you can use it.

Chan | 5093 comments #1 | Task 1
Book: Lick
Pages: 303
Completed: April 13, 2020
Qualifies: Karen and Sarah will read Repeat; Courtney and Chan will read Lick, both books written by Kyle Scott.

Lick (Stage Dive, #1) by Kylie Scott

As Chan said, the Kindle page count is what you need to use. I think the "only from Audible" statement refers to the audio version only - not that there is no print/Kindle/ebook version. Audible has started to really ramp up their production, so more and more audio versions of books are available only from them - not from other vendors or libraries, etc.

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Chan, I hope you're staying safe! The news reports from the whole southeastern part of the country are just heartbreaking...

message 72: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Karen, thank you so much for checking on me. We made it through. It was pretty bad though. I didn't get to bed until after 3am.

We are very fortunate. There are many people less than a half mile from us with damage and without power. We escaped unscathed. Still have power and life is going on as normal as it can be.

The scariest thing that happened besides winds that sounded like freight trains, is the lightning entering the room. Never felt anything like that before.

message 73: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Wow, that sounds absolutely terrifying...I'm so glad you came through it ok. We don't really have what would be considered severe weather here...at least not on a scale that comes anywhere close to what's been going on down there anyway, so it's hard to even imagine what it's like. Stay safe!

I liked it a lot! I peeked at your review, and I agree that I would have liked to know more about their past, but I think I would rather have had some flashbacks or maybe a prologue or something, not a separate story.

message 81: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5093 comments YAY! I hoped you would enjoy it. I don't usually enjoy flashbacks, but would have been super grateful for a prologue.

I don't wanna say more and ruin it for Sarah. Maybe we can all talk about our books when we're done.

I always enjoy good groveling, so I liked that, but there were other parts that were yummy :o)

Courtney | 2931 comments I actually really liked everything in Monterey. It was just so cute with him writing music again, and them building their relationship.

The writing was just really good. Like, even common romance tropes felt new, not clichéd. Everything felt real and not forced. I usually have a hard time with books like this because they end up sounding super cheesy, but this one was well done.

The end was good, but I really didn't like how awful her dad was! He was the only character in the book that I just didn't like. His reactions were just a bit too much for me.

It was just so nice to read a nice "relationship" romance. So many books I've been reading lately have so much stuff going on along with the main romance that it gets kind of lost sometime. I enjoyed that in this one the relationship was front and center throughout. Really a romance romance. 🤣

message 88: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I can't decide should I go onto Mal's book, or try Repeat since you all are reading that one! 😂

Chan | 5093 comments Courtney wrote: "I actually really liked everything in Monterey. It was just so cute with him writing music again, and them building their relationship.

YES! I like your wording LOL. A Romance romance. {sigh}

Yeah, Ev's dad was really over the top, but I think I disliked the Mom more. She was like an automaton. She should have stepped in and protected her children.

I don't know what to suggest. I enjoyed Mal so much. He has the classic signs of someone with ADHD. I also really liked Repeat. Repeat is shorter than Play and has a little mystery. Play is funny with some heartfelt moments.

IDK...Karen what do you suggest?

message 90: by Courtney (last edited Apr 15, 2020 03:39PM) (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Yeah, I figured something was up with the mom. How she needed pills to sleep.... Something was off.

message 91: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Chan wrote: "IDK...Karen what do you suggest?"

To be honest, it's been several years since I read the Stage Dive series, so I don't remember a lot of the specifics. I know I really liked the whole series though.

As far as which one to read next, if it were me I'd probably stay with the series and wait on Repeat since it's a stand-alone, and you never know when you might need one of those for a challenge! 😁

message 92: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Ah, good point. It's hard to find stand alones.

38. Read 6 books with 3 word titles.

Articles count. 😊

message 97: by [deleted user] (new)

I will read Take a Chance by Shelley Shepard Gray - right now I can commit to this book and get it completed in the next few days. I can try for another if required.

message 98: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments I should be able to do 2 pretty easily. Starting with Devoted in Death, and anything in that series goes fast for me. I don't have a 2nd book in mind yet, but it's an easy category, I can find something.

message 99: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Haha, I've had this on my eReader forever and was looking for a time to read it. Caveman Alien's Ransom. 158 pages! Exactly perfect challenge length!
