I really struggled with a book for this one. A book with animal characters is clearly the most logical choice for a book with non-human characters. I've read so many of the popular choices though and I am really trying to avoid re-reads as much as possible. The few books that did feature animal characters on my to-read shelf, well, they were more companions or sidekicks. That didn't seem very challenging so I went a different direction. The jinni is a being of fire born in the ancient Syrian desert and the golem is an animated clay creature (thanks synopsis!). I didn't get around to reading this book last year as I planned, so I wanted to be sure to get it read this year.

Jessica (jollybookshelf) I'm so happy that you are setting high standards for yourself! After all, this is supposed to be challenging!

Hannah Norman (hannahnorman) | 49 comments I have been wanting to read this so this week will be as good as any!

Emily I absolutely loved this book when I read it last year. Hope you enjoy it!

Trudy (goodreadscomtrudyspages) This is one of my favorite books. Enjoy!

Alina | 63 comments I've been wanting to read this one too. I'm glad it fits for this week!

Vespers9 | 45 comments This is my pick for this week, too! Chosen for much the same reasons: trying to avoid repeat reads. I remember seeing this when it first came out and had my eye on it ever since. Looking forward to reading it now.

Hannah Norman (hannahnorman) | 49 comments This was so clever and creative! I had never heard of the golem or jinn mythology but Wecker really brought it all to life. I was also very happy with how all of the characters came into play.
