Kristina Varshavskaya | 2 comments I read this book around 2006, I borrowed it from the library in the US as a kid and I think it was probably a recently published book at that time. I don't remember the title or character names, but it centered on a young boy who I think had a tense relationship with his mother or his whole town; he was poor and I think that was one reason for the tension.

*spoilers ahead*

I think I remember that he was always warned to stay away from the "edge of the world" because if he fell off of it he would fall for eternity, but one day when he was in a bad mood he walked up close to it and accidentally fell down, he fell for what seemed like a very long time but eventually landed on ground. I think he met someone (a goblin or goblin-like creature?) who he ended up traveling with and discovering a bunch of new places. I have it in my head that this place was called "The Land of Oo", but I'm probably mixing that up with Adventure Time since when I try to google it that's the only result I get. But the name of the land was something strange like that.

I'm not sure if I remember this correctly but I remember there being sketches of the characters/land on the cover and on a few pages in the book in a black pencil sketchy style drawing, kind of like Shel Silverstein or Roald Dahl books.

So...this book was published in 1998 but it's part of a series that continues up to 2015.

I've never read any of them, but this seems to fit the description...
