2015 Challenge Goals
date
newest »

I love fantasy, but I agree with you, that the epics take more time & focus than many other genres

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. I usually set my goal to 50 but it is difficult for me to complete 50 books with all those long books on my TBR. Good idea to focus on one for each month though! Maybe I will try that. :)
I'm going to try the PopSugar 2015 challenge but I'll probably use one book for multiple challenges.
I've joined a couple book ban challenges for next year as well. Hopefully that will force me to read books I already own (and have been sitting around for a while) rather than buying a bunch of new releases. I think I will allow myself to buy new books in series though since there are a few I'm looking forward to that I don't think I would be able to pass up. :P

Yes! That is my second goal. I have started so many and a few of them have been of the epic novel variety.

I figured by doing just one I won't get completely overwhelmed. I do a few other challenges and I always like the "pick it for me" challenge. It helps me clear my tbr shelf and pushes me to pick up something that's been on my shelf for way too long.

The staff at mine start pulling books from shelves and handing them to me when I walk into the door. I hear 'you were looking for this last time, we just got it in' way to often.....

A few years ago, I stopped setting a goal for number of books to read for this reason. I usually put in some random number on Goodreads, but then set my own goal for number of pages read. That way I feel like I can read whatever I want to instead of worrying about getting through as many books as possible. I mean, there was one month earlier this year I only read 5 books (very low for me) but they were all books in the Wheel of Time series, so it was nearly 5k pages lol. I read a ton of fantasy series so it makes a lot more sense for me to set it up that way!

Any recommendations since I am fairly new to the genre?

I enjoyed the Wheel of Time series as well as The Corean Chronicles by L.E. Modesitt Jr.. The 2nd is actually the series that got me into the fantasy genre in the first place.

Well, it looks like you already have the Wheel of Time, the Lightbringer series, and the First Law series on your 2015 epic reads list, those were some of the first books I thought of, lol.
Aside from those, I'd also recommend the Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch, as well as literally anything written by Brandon Sanderson.
Oh, and Jim Butcher is quite good as well. I enjoyed his Codex Alera series and also love the Dresden Files. Finally, I would say to check out the Kushiel's Legacy books by Jacqueline Carey. I haven't read the last trilogy in that series yet but enjoyed the books I've read.
I could go on and on lol, but I'm going to make myself stop there! :)

Finish The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare
Be more active on Goodreads
And read a total of 40 books
My goal is to read 100 books this year and to read ones that have been on my shelves for a while now

And that's it (I think)

One of my goals this year is to check out MORE books from the library. We have a great library here, and I really need to stop buying books I"ll only read once.

Me too! But I really want to have a library myself one day... that's my justification lol

2. Be willing to stop reading a book if I'm truly not enjoying it. I feel obligated to finish a book if I start reading it, but it tends to turn that book into a chore, and I want to break that habit.
3. Read things I actually own. I have a four shelf bookshelf, and I've only read the book on the top shelf. I want to get through at least one whole shelf's worth of books, instead of constantly bringing home giant stacks from the library.
4. Less YA, more heavy reading. I enjoy YA to keep up my pace, and keep me in the habit of reading, but sometimes I find I get stuck in a funk where I'm opting out of reading larger more difficult books I'm interested in because I pick up yet another YA book because it's the easier choice. Not saying I don't want to read any YA, but I don't want it to hold me back from reading something different.
5. Finish reading uncompleted series. The Chronicles of Narnia, A Series of Unfortunate Events, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Chronicles of Faerie, The Vampire Chronicles, The Lord of the Rings - I have my work cut out for me.
My book goal so far is 52 - one book a week.

Good luck!
in 2015 I want to:
- read 50 books
- read at least 12 books from the library
- read 5 "hyped" books I normally would not touch
- reduce my print book TBR by maybe 5-10 (or more)
- read 50 books
- read at least 12 books from the library
- read 5 "hyped" books I normally would not touch
- reduce my print book TBR by maybe 5-10 (or more)

read 50 or more books off my nook ,kindle, paperback and hardcover ( don't have that many on that list}TBR list
get caught up in some of my series that I read
finish a series that I just need like four more books for
read some new authors
start some new series of books
and add some new books to my James Rollins and Clive Cussler books.

1. read at least 52 books
2. stay on my book buying ban - only buy 1 book after reading 4 already owned books
3. read 10 books that have been on my shelf for over 3 years
Since I own over 400 unread books, it's quite daunting, so I've made a small bookshelf of only 60 that I'm focusing on reading this year, and not to stray except for the new "rewards" I get myself after each 4.

- Try to complete book challenge goal of 20 books, although hopefully increase
- Simple read more books to keep up, instead of only fanfiction ^o^
- Reduce my tbr list
- Complete book series that already part way through
- Be more active in groups on goodreads

1st: read 50 books off my nook, kindle, paper and hard back book TBR List: So I kinda passed with that one as well as filed with it. So how did I pass ,well Goodreads says thinks to my Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge that so far I've read a total (and this is the complete total of all my reads of nook, kindle ,paper and hard back books put together) of 169 books out of 170 that I put down.So that's a 169 books taking off my TBR list. The filed part is I kind of went off my book buying bend and added some more books to my kindle ( added 9 new kindle books to my Kindle TBR list),nook ( added 9 new nook books to my nook TBR) and paper back books ( add 1 book to that TBR list) as well as just recently add to my Bookshout TBR ( had just 3 then I went a little crazy with the free books so because of that it brought my total of books up on my Bookshout TBR to 42 books ( 39 of those are the new ones but 11 of them are rereads, to because of that the new total is 28 books new books that I haven't ever read it) and then I of course had to add Apple iBooks a total of 6 to my TBR list.
2nd goal get caught up in some series I read( which meant that I read the first book of those series so far and I had some many more to read) series that I've got caught up and read the ones that had been on the TBR list. Night Huntress (books 1-6 :off my TBR list as is book one to Night Huntess world, Done with all the ones that I've got of the Temperance Brennan series,Chicagland Vampires (books 1- 3 is off my TBR list, still have to read books 4-5).And I'm almost caught up with my Isaac Bell adventures (books 1-7).
3rd goal:Read some new authors ,So that ones is a pass because there's been a lot of new authors that I've read to just name a few :Colleen Coble,Todd Borg,Suzan Tisdale, and A.J. Tata
4th goal: start a new series: pass a well, some new series I just started to name a few is : In Death series by J.D.Robb,Owen McKenna Mystery thrillers by Todd Borg,Rock Harbor Series by Colleen Coble,The MacDougall series by Suzan Tisdale
5th goal was add some new books to my James Rolling's and Clive Cussler books : haven't added any new ones to my James Rolling's books but I did add 1 book to my Clive Cussler books and that's book 7 to the Isaac Bell Adventure series. So in total most of keeping to my goals is at lest I think is a pass what do you think is it a pass or fail.and how are you doing on your goals

Should we have a group challenge for 2015? We could do a 'featured book challenge' & set a goal to see how many books we read as a group.

I'm totally in for a group challenge. (:
