SciFi and Fantasy Book Club discussion

I'm kind of on a bit of a reading downer at the moment, and so I'm going to need some books with something really appealing to get going again, so I'm looking for suggestions of novels with characters like Snape (or Childermass from Jonathan Strange) in them.

Any suggestions?

Which characteristics of Snape and/or Childermass are you particularly looking for?

I suppose mostly their dark, quiet, brooding natures and a little snarkiness too. I suppose it's open to interpretation though.

Maybe take a look at Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines - not totally snarky, but definitely quirky.

You want totally dark, snarky and nasty? Try Black Sun rising by C.S. Friedman. It's the first book in her Coldfire Trilogy.

maybe Glokta from The Blade Itself ? abercrombie's like the lord of anti heroes
