Hi everyone, sorry this thread is late... I've been without proper internet connection for about a week. I hope all you have had a great Christmas

Thanks, Lyndi, for our first shelf of 2015: (audiobook

Have you tried listening to audiobooks before? If not, this may be a good chance to give it a go.

If you love audiobooks, maybe you can recommend a book that's really good as audio... or your fave narrator!

D.G. | 1370 comments I have 101 audiobooks on my TBR so I'm not sure what I'll be listening. Most likely I'll get to one of these:
The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown Moon Over Soho (Peter Grant, #2) by Ben Aaronovitch Steelheart (Reckoners, #1) by Brandon Sanderson Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews Son of the Morning by Linda Howard The Killer Ascendant (previously published as Requiem for an Assassin) by Barry Eisler

I read many more books on paper or digitally than I listen to. But there are some I really prefer to hear. One is the Bloody Jack series of young adult historical fiction books. The reading adds a lot to the fun of these books.

Amanda McDowell Is it required that we listen to a book on the shelf? I'm not trying to be a party pooper. I mostly ask because I don't really have any access to audiobooks right now.

I'll be listening to The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson .

Matt Mullins | 139 comments I'll be listening to Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell . This will take care of one of my "Moving Mountains" books as well under the "teen" category...

Ebony Taylor | 95 comments Im going to listen to Divergent Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . It's my first audiobook, and I've spent hours on Audible listening to samples, agonizing over which narrator's voice will annoy me least. It's also on my Moving Mountains list!

I'm not a fan of this book so take this with a grain of salt, but I would call this narration below average. The narrator can’t do different voices so when more than one person is talking, it’s very difficult to know who’s speaking. At least the book is pretty much all internal monologues with relatively few conversations so you may be able to follow what was going on, like it happened with me.

Tien can come in here and confirm but I don't think it's required. As long as you find the book in there, you can read it in any format.

message 12: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenofthebookworm) While they are not so much audiobooks as audio performances I will be listening to the Radio 4 productions of War and Peace and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch.

Actual audiobooks -
Room
East of Eden
The Luminaries
Echo Burning

Sorry, yes, I mean, no, it's NOT compulsory especially if you don't have easy access, Jane. It'd be a good experience for those who's never tried audiobooks though. However, there are some bad ones out there so hopefully whoever is "listening" pick some good ones!

I'll start with The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag, since that came up first in my Moving Mountains 2015, and it seems like it could be a good one for an audiobook. But audiobooks end up taking me a lot longer to finish that books I read on paper or digitally, so I'm not choosing any others till I see how long that takes.

I hope you like this - I tried towards the end of the year, but it just wasn't working for me

message 23: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 380 comments It really depends on when the library can get the books to me :(

Possibly American Gods, Cloud Atlas, Insurgent and Allegiant.

If I am travelling ok with current library loans and the above don't turn up, The Hunger Games, The Handmaid's Tale and The Kite Runner.

OK, I am biting the bullet. One of my very LOST books (2013) is The Passage. I decided to tackle it as an audiobook. Since it is a 700+ page book and 12 discs as an audiobook, I figure that the 31 days of this month will help me get through most of it.

Matt Mullins | 139 comments Getting ready to start Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10

Also on my "Lost" list. Looking forward to listening to this!

Lahni | 660 comments I'm going to read Matched. I've listened to several audiobooks in the past and quite enjoy them but I don't see them working well for me right now since I need both ears on tap to listen for my crazy toddler twins.
