Eep, I was worried that the shelves will change! And it has. The way it is now, you're right, it should be 'kindle'
I did my list a couple of weeks ago in preparation to posting this thread so um, looks like some changes happened :p
Sorry about the confusion, LynnB. But, err, I don't think I'll change my list as it took me a while to do in the first place

I may have misunderstood the instructions. Yep, I did.My first book was from column 1, my second from column 2, my third from column 3 and then repeat.
I skipped the suggested shelves and similar shelves to those already chosen (Sf, Sci-Fi, Science Fiction) in order to get a greater variety.
I found that each succeeding book's shelf to be chosen was near the top of the particular column I was choosing from.
I stopped at 24, as it felt like it would take me forever to find an end. Perhaps my TBR is just too big! (Actually, I am at 60 books and still not at an end!)

Tien,
Is the intent to read the books in the order they come up?
If so, suppose there's a book I end up reading before I come to it in the list. Do I count it anyway, scratch it off the list, or what? We wouldn't want to end up having to redo the entire list from then on.
And I can see right now that I'm going to have that problem with my 10th book -- I'd planned to read it in Jan. for another challenge. Shall I skip it in my planning, as though I'd read it already?

Ah, I think I made this harder for myself. In the directions, where Tien says "Pick the book that is ALREADY on your to-read shelf," I interpreted it as "Pick the FIRST book that is ALREADY on your to-read shelf." I admit I wondered, when she talked about making choices to get variety in your shelves -- I didn't see how there were any choices to make.
But I think I'll leave it as it came out, at least for now. Maybe this will be the spur I need to finally tackle James Joyce.

eeep! It's not on my list to read this year, Susan, and I don't know if my brain can process this book this year... -babybrain misplaced her purse yesterday and just as I went into panic mode, the police came (to our home) with it. Someone's gave it in to the police, thankfully! There isn't much money in it but just the hassle of replacing all cards, ya know. But it's all there so there is some goodness left in the world ;D
Sooo... ask me in the later half of the year (I'd probably be back at work and may cope better with reading something heavy. Bub will be older too so hopefully a little easier)
btw, World Without End is also on my list and happy to buddy-read with you on that one?

as soon as I get the posts ready, Ebony. It's taken some time as I rarely get to go on the pc, thanks to bub :) At this rate, probably in about 2 weeks.

Lahni, what I do is set up a separate shelf for each challenge, called POTS or Mountains, or whatever. You're right that if you tell the widget to look at your to-read shelf and then move the book to your "read" shelf, the widget won't count it. But if you want, there's a batch edit that makes it easy to add all the books from your "to-read" shelf to the challenge shelf. Or, once you've made your list, you can just add those books that made the list to the challenge shelf. Either way, that's the shelf you want to specify to the widget.

That is exactly what I do.

1. Fiction: The Unbearable Lightness of Being
2. Classics: One Hundred Years of Solitude
3. Magical-realism: The Picture of Dorian Gray
4. Favorites: The Bell Jar
7. Crime: The Cuckoo's Calling
10. Young-adult: Speak
11. Realistic fiction: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

Example: my last book for Moving Mountains 2014 was What Alice Forgot
2. Go to ‘See Top Shelves...’
Look to the right side of the book page, underneath the advertisement
Example: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...
3. Your next book to be read will be from 1st shelf shown (NOT counting to-read & currently-reading shelves) – Down then Over
Example: from above, the shelf is “2014”.
Note: instead of clicking on the link, as it will take you to the genre page, follow step #4 below.
4. Go to: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf and type in your shelf to find that particular shelf page. Any “-“ will usually mean a space. Make sure the top of your page shows: Shelves>...>Popular... Books
Example: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
5. Pick the book that is ALREADY on your to-read shelf. if you wish, you may place further conditions; ie. Books you already have at home or on your e-reader etc. Be mindful, sometimes, this condition may make it harder for you BUT this could be another potentional goal for your reading this year.
Example: I chose The Husband's Secret
6. From this (above) book page, go to ‘See Top Shelves...’
Example: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...
7. Your next book to be read will be from 2nd shelf shown (not counting to-read / currently-reading shelves) – Down the left column then Over to the top of the middle column and so on
if #2 shelf is the same as #1, go one below (or however many below) for a shelf that you haven't yet read from. In my example, #2 is also '2014' so I'm going to use the third shelf shown as my #2, 'fiction'
Example: (fiction) https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
8. Pick a book from above shelf
9. Repeat these steps by going down the Top Shelves listed on the last book until you have either reached the end (ie. There is no #(x+1) shelf on your last book’s Top Shelves OR there is no book already on your to-read shelf that’s shown the shelf you are to read from).
Note: in my example above, I had to use 3rd shelf shown as #2, however I'd still use 3rd shelf shown as #3, if it's unique -ie. I've not read from it yet
10. Try to pick a book which will give you a different shelf each time. There may be some repeats at the beginning which is why it’s all the more important that you try to aim for different shelves to begin with.
