I loved this book. Way to turn a disability to an ability! I have so many feelings over this one. I'm very much looking forward to picking up the sequel.

Danielle (dnareads) | 31 comments I read the sequel. It was....ok. They could have kept it as one book. I have the feeling there will be a third book though.

Tiffany | 60 comments I just requested the sequel. We should do a group read.

I don't even understand how there could be a sequel.

Tiffany | 60 comments I feel the same way, which is why I have to read it now.

Lindsay F | 3 comments I am on the fence with this book. Whenever a book is set someplace that I am familiar with, it is super hard for me to not sit there and go "Um, that place doesn't exist. Hm, that's not how things are..." You get what I mean.
I went to Iowa so I lived in IC for 4 years. You have no idea how much it bothers me that Vee's father worked at the hospital but yet his daughters attended "East High School". I can't be rational here. I know that it's fiction. But I still can't help being all East High doesn't exist, and you probably live much closer to (real) West High!
Also! Vee's English class really bothered me. She's a junior and they're doing Shakespeare (am I remembering that correctly?). Maybe the curriculum has changed, but after freshman year we did NOT read Shakespeare. Junior year we did American literature and rhetoric. Again, this mainly bothers me b/c I went to HS in Iowa and I almost feel misrepresented... Does that make sense? I get really defensive whenever I feel someone is trying to slight my home state.

On the good notes - I liked Vee. I understood her reasoning and felt for her situation. Did anyone else totally picture Rollins as Damian? But punk? I was kind of shocked when he wasn't gay.
I get why this wasn't a standalone book. The sliding ability kind of begs to be a series. I didn't like the second book as much as the first. It felt a little forced. It almost felt like it was all just a setup for a third book. And a third book means more Mattie and man, I just wanted to slap her all up and down the place in BOTH books!

Danielle (dnareads) | 31 comments I hate when they misrepresent places in books. Like one book I read, this girl was living in Manhattan paying half the rent somewhere but was like a waitress. She couldn't afford half the rent where I live on tips!

They really stretched it making it a trilogy. I think the third book may be about finding a bunch of other people who can slide and may be evil. Yea, Mattie kind of pissed me off. Like how can you be bff with your sister's ex bff? Is there any loyalty in that family. And I kinda hate how they just brushed off the dad's cheating. I mean damn he had a kid with the lady!

I'm game. I'll see if my library has it today. If they do, I'll take a picture and post it on FB.
