Review:
Not really altogether funny. The best thing about this movie is Kate McKinnon.

2. George Washington 3 Part Mini-Series

Rating: A+
Finished: February 16-18, 2020
Review:
This History Channel mini-series is so good. I absolutely loved it. George Washington is brilliantly played by Nicholas Rowe. It gives an in depth look into the man not just the legend including his flaws and failures that are rarely if ever mentioned in history textbooks.

3. Emma (2020)

Since Emma is my favorite Jane Austen Novel, I have to watch all the adaptations. In this beautiful adaptation Anya Taylor Joy brilliantly plays Emma. Really overall, the casting was great and a great adaptation.

A clever and very colorful adventure with a great message. A great soundtrack as well!

5. Love Wedding Repeat

Rating: B-
Finished: April 12, 2020
Review:
Love Wedding Repeat is a wacky romantic comedy set it beautiful Italy. While it was entertaining there was one part that annoyed me to no end. One character kept comparing his penis and his sexual prowess to his girlfriends ex throughout the entire movie. Doing this once or couple of a times would maybe be funny but by making it a running joke throughout the entire movie it quickly wore out its welcome.

A doomed war time romance with a great cast including Michelle Williams, Kristen Scott Thomas, and Margot Robbie. Entertaining and well worth watching if you love romantic historical fiction. Although I have a feeling the book is quite different and a whole lot better. So I cannot wait to read it.

Although Emma is marvelous, please don’t neglect Austen’s novel for the “older” younger set:

A good-hearted teenage romantic comedy. The best part is Lana Condor and Noah Centineo's chemistry really shines through.

A very funny Netflix comedy special. Its long form improv. The brilliant comedians Thomas Middleditch and Ben Schwartz ask the audience questions and come up with their comedy sketch right there on the spot. If you need a good laugh I highly recommend this special

I really really loved this 4 part Netflix mini-series. Its a powerful look into the Satmar Hasidic community. It follows Esty, a strong young women who has dreams other than marriage and motherhood. She soon gains the courage to leave her community and travel to Berlin where her mom lives. Loved the fact that a large chunk of the movie is spoken in Yiddish. Its a language I have not heard before other than a few words.

A very violent action thriller staring Chris Hemsworth as mercenary hired to save the son of a Indian drug lord from the grips of a Bangladeshi drug lord. This movie takes you on an emotional ride through the streets of Dhaka Bangladesh. The brutally violently fight scenes are brilliantly choreographed.

Another brilliant documentary by Ken Burns. I was happy to find this documentary on Amazon Prime since baseball and my beloved Astros are not playing (I know, I know they are big fat cheaters but I still love them). The first episode follows the game in from its humble beginnings as a amateur recreational club sport the to its earliest organized professional leagues. 10 more episodes to go.
Carlie, what wonderful movies you have selected. But Ken Burns Baseball looks so good. I’m missing Opening Day and all of the rites of Spring but we need to stay home and stay safe. Thanks for a wonderful alternative.

Several intersecting teen love stories as they prepare to head their separate ways for college. This is not the best contribution to the teen romance genre. However, it has a great cast and full of light hearted escapism.

I found this German film on Netflix and since I have enjoyed many German films, I decided to watch this one. A daughter of a billionaire and a son of a poor single mother enter a mutually beneficial agreement to pretend to be dating in order to make her parents stop cutting her off from money. In typical rom com style their relationship becomes real. It was ok but really could not keep my interest. Plus no real comedy in this rom-com.

A fast paced thriller that was not very thrilling. The bad guys were obvious from the beginning.

Review:
A just ok period drama set during World War II. The actors did a good job with what they were given. However, what they were given was a mess. There were parts that were so ridiculous that I laughed out loud and not in a good way since this is not a comedy. This movie is partly redeemed by Christopher Plummer's performance as Kaiser Wilhelm II.

17. Ken Burn's Baseball: Episode 2

Rating: A+
Finished: May 1, 2020
Review:
This episode is the beginning of the 20th century, 1900-1909. It chronicles the founding of the American League and a cast of colorful characters including Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner.

This episode covers the 1910s. Ty Cobb gets more screen time too. He was a great baseball player, but all around horrible human being. Major events chronicled are the building of Fenway Park and the impact WW1 had on the game. The episode ends with the 1919 White Sox scandal.

Episode 4 covers the 1920's so its Babe Ruth's episode. It also covers the beginning of the Negro League and the development of the farm system. A lot of great facts and stories.

A coming of age story using the classic Cyrano de Bergerac formula. An emotional complex story of love and friendship gets complicated when two friends fall for the same girl.

Each episode chronicles best team/players and world series games of each decade. Episode 5 is the 1930s. Events that define this decade are the great depression, the first night games, the first all star game, and the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame. This episode spends more time on the Negro leagues and its stars then previous episodes. They even interview several former Negro League players. Lou Gehrig plays a prominent role in this episode.

This episode chronicles the 1940's. This was a really big decade for baseball. World War II, women's professional league, Jackie Robinson among others. This episode also spends a lot of time on the summer of '41. It was a great summer of baseball. You had Joe DiMaggio's record breaking hit streak and Ted Williams batting .400.

The last part of this documentary starts with the end of the civil war and follows Grant through his presidency. This was a great documentary. It gives great incite into Grant as a man not just a military leader and politician.

"I don't where the line between a good person who does something wrong and a bad person who does something good is anymore." One of the interviewees says this and it really describes Lance Armstrong and this documentary. Lance Part 2 chronicles Lance's downfall.

This episode brings us into the 1950's. This decade was dominated by the teams in New York, the Giants, Yankees, and Dodgers. Especially the Yankees who won several world series. This decade also saw several teams move to other cities including the Dodgers and Giants who move to California.
Carly, this sounds great. With three discussions going on - I have had my nose in a book and/or my headsets on listening to one. But I have to watch this.

This movie was so fun to watch. A classic hilarious whodunit with a lot of twists. Agatha Christie fans will be familiar with the premise. A mysterious untimely death where everyone is a suspect.
Carly I really liked that movie - saw it in the theater when it came out - seems so long ago that I was in a movie theater with this Covid 19 pandemic going on.
