Hello Carly - here is your new thread for 2020 and below are directions and an example of the format to be used. Get out the popcorn and find your special spot to watch some great movies.

We put in the Month in caps and bold and then we number all of the movies consecutively: - we try to add the cover, Finish Date:, Rating, then do a short review. I have included a sample. Very similar to the 50 Books so you should do fine but a few variations and the bolding.

JANUARY

Loved this film.

Penny Chenery Tweedy and colleagues guide her long-shot but precocious stallion to set, in 1973, the unbeaten record for winning the Triple Crown.

This History Channel mini-series is so good. I absolutely loved it. George Washington is brilliantly played by Nicholas Rowe. It gives an in depth look into the man not just the legend including his flaws and failures that are rarely if ever mentioned in history textbooks.

5. Love Wedding Repeat

Rating: B-

Finished: April 12, 2020

Review:

Love Wedding Repeat is a wacky romantic comedy set it beautiful Italy. While it was entertaining there was one part that annoyed me to no end. One character kept comparing his penis and his sexual prowess to his girlfriends ex throughout the entire movie. Doing this once or couple of a times would maybe be funny but by making it a running joke throughout the entire movie it quickly wore out its welcome.

A doomed war time romance with a great cast including Michelle Williams, Kristen Scott Thomas, and Margot Robbie. Entertaining and well worth watching if you love romantic historical fiction. Although I have a feeling the book is quite different and a whole lot better. So I cannot wait to read it.

I really really loved this 4 part Netflix mini-series. Its a powerful look into the Satmar Hasidic community. It follows Esty, a strong young women who has dreams other than marriage and motherhood. She soon gains the courage to leave her community and travel to Berlin where her mom lives. Loved the fact that a large chunk of the movie is spoken in Yiddish. Its a language I have not heard before other than a few words.

A very violent action thriller staring Chris Hemsworth as mercenary hired to save the son of a Indian drug lord from the grips of a Bangladeshi drug lord. This movie takes you on an emotional ride through the streets of Dhaka Bangladesh. The brutally violently fight scenes are brilliantly choreographed.

Another brilliant documentary by Ken Burns. I was happy to find this documentary on Amazon Prime since baseball and my beloved Astros are not playing (I know, I know they are big fat cheaters but I still love them). The first episode follows the game in from its humble beginnings as a amateur recreational club sport the to its earliest organized professional leagues. 10 more episodes to go.

I found this German film on Netflix and since I have enjoyed many German films, I decided to watch this one. A daughter of a billionaire and a son of a poor single mother enter a mutually beneficial agreement to pretend to be dating in order to make her parents stop cutting her off from money. In typical rom com style their relationship becomes real. It was ok but really could not keep my interest. Plus no real comedy in this rom-com.

A just ok period drama set during World War II. The actors did a good job with what they were given. However, what they were given was a mess. There were parts that were so ridiculous that I laughed out loud and not in a good way since this is not a comedy. This movie is partly redeemed by Christopher Plummer's performance as Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Each episode chronicles best team/players and world series games of each decade. Episode 5 is the 1930s. Events that define this decade are the great depression, the first night games, the first all star game, and the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame. This episode spends more time on the Negro leagues and its stars then previous episodes. They even interview several former Negro League players. Lou Gehrig plays a prominent role in this episode.
