Buddy Read with the amazing Darce! Love you girl and love your patience! 💕💕

Wow! What an incredible story!
I have to admit, when I first started this, I didn’t think much of it. I liked the prologue, but then the first third of the book, I was not interested, I think I didn’t like how slow it was going or how hateful some of the characters was but I was not enjoying it. (Or maybe it was because I had buddy Read Stepsister and A Crown of Wishes with Darce before this and they were amazing from page 1, and then reading this book it felt bland?)
BUT! Everything changed after about 40% in and I was hooked!

I loved Shazi and Khalid! (still don’t know how to type Shazi’s real name 😂) I loved Shazi’s character development, she seemed so hateful and quick tempered, and I think she made rush decisions, but then she grew wise, she was brave and courageous and she was everything I love in a heroine.
And then Khalid, now only do I love the name but also his growth. He was a mystery from the beginning to both Shazi and the readers, but then his icy heart began to thaw and ahh I had tears in my eyes! I love him, I love him! I just want to give him a big warm hug! 🤗🤗❤️❤️

Such as good story, I love the mystery and the betrayal, the love and secrets, even the magic and curses we see. Soooo good! Can not wait to read more and finish this series!

Again, thank you Darce for Buddy reading this with me! Unto our next buddy Read girl!

here's my - too long, i got a bit carried away ahah - review!

buddy read with the amazing Buddy Reads group and the even more amazing Karen :))

i don't know what to think!

i enjoyed this, i did. some of the characters were super fun and really clever in an almost slytherin way (actually this book kinda reminds me of The Shadows Between Us), and the romance was brilliant. Khalid was a wonderful character as his cold facade cracked to reveal a super sweet and really badass guy underneath, with a traumatic childhood and hideous curse placed atop him. Shazi definitely grew on me with her sharp (and hilarious) tongue attacking everyone in her vicinity, be they important or not, and i really loved her character development. Despina was probably the greatest character, with her humour and her own version of badassery, and i really wish we got some more of her.

but then there was Tariq.

god, Tariq just kinda frustrated me. he was the very epitome of THAT GUY, that one that takes being protective to a whole new level and is a major alphahole (read House of Earth and Blood hehe). all he does is attempt to save Shazi, which i understand in the beginning because, well, Khalid doesn't have the greatest reputation when it comes to wives, but even after he witnesses the connection between Shazi and Khalid he's still determined to 'rescue' her! i honestly didn't love the entire rebellion side of the storyline, especially when we got some backstory on Khalid and found out how much the destruction of his city must have been hurting him. but i understand, i mean the romance couldn't really be the entire storyline. still....

all up, we didn't actually get that much 1001 nights storytelling, but i still really liked the retelling side of this story, and i loved the characters and romance. honestly, the ending angered me A LOT (as Karen would know hehe, sorry girl!) but i guess that says good things about the storytelling ability of the author! it takes good writing to make someone that angry about fictional characters ahaha.

now this review has gone longer than expected but i'll tie it all up with saying this: i can understand the mixed reviews about The Wrath and the Dawn, but i liked the book all in all, and i'm glad i decided to read it. it was even more fun to buddy read it :)) thanks Karen!!
