Did you mean to ask if CFD was active as a whole? I think you'll find that we're VERY active on a daily basis!
As far as clean thrillers goes, I would recommend Brandilyn Colllins' work. I know there are others in the group who would have additional suggestions. 😊

Hey there Terry! I've been a member for a couple of years now and it's extremely active! I get notifications for the group throughout every day. A great way to engage is by participating in the challenges. If you can see the Challenge Catalog (maybe an admin can tag you to it?), you'll see all of the challenges there. If you're finding you aren't receiving notification, also maybe check your notification settings from the desktop.

As far as thrillers go, I love Creston Mapes. I also recommend Frank E. Peretti and Ted Dekker. If you don't mind going a little more on the darker side of Christian Fiction, you could also try Jessica R. Patch and Jaime Jo Wright.

Paula, let me poke around my shelves and see what stands out as a hero dad. Do you have any books on your to-be-read that feature military, medic, or firefighter fathers? Any of those would definitely work.

Terry, have you tried Lynette Eason's Women of Justice series or Extreme Measures series? They're suspense, but these two particular series are some of her most thrilling, edgy series. I highly recommend them.

Nothing's really popping in my list of books, Paula. I hope you find something!

Michelle | 626 comments I'm not sure if these count as a hero dad:
Until Leaves Fall in Paris Until Leaves Fall in Paris by Sarah Sundin The single father in this story is an American industrialist spying on the Nazis and creating sabotage; heroic deeds.

Holding the Fort Holding the Fort (Fort Reno, #1) by Regina Jennings is about a Military single father at Fort Reno in Oklahoma/Indian Territory in 1885.

that starts with an E

Is that too much to ask? 🤣
Oh, if they go to Europe that would be a plus.

I've got The English Son The English Son (The Amish Millionaire #1) by Wanda E. Brunstetter published in 2016? No brides or Europe, I'm afraid.

The Hagenheim series by Melanie Dickerson is all retellings of faerie tales by a Christian author, and Karen Witemeyer (a favourite among many of our group members) is currently writing a series of faerie tale reimaginings set in Texas. (The series is called Texas Ever After.)

Michelle | 626 comments Evangelise, Jody Hedlund has several fairytale/retelling/middle ages series. She even has one where modern people go back in time.

Morgan L. Busse writes young adult Christian fantasy.

I have a shelf of retellings--they're not all fairytales, but a good number of them are!

message 216: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 743 comments Are there any Jody Hedlund books that don't have the steamy romance? I started her Colorado Cowboys last year and really loved the characters and storylines, but the passion was too heavy for me. Is there another series or stand alone I can try that is lighter on the passion? Bonus points if she has any mail order bride books that would fit. I see she's a favorite in this group so I thought this would be the perfect place to ask!

It's been a while since I've read the Orphan Train series, you may want to try Together Forever (Orphan Train, #2) by Jody Hedlund .

Crystal, I gave up on Mrs. Hedlund's books after her early lighthouse series got too sensual for my comfort zone. From my reading experience, books by authors who write steamy romances tend to get worse on that aspect rather than better.

Have you tried Kim Vogel Sawyer, Carrie Turansky, or Tracie Peterson? Their historical romances are sweet.

Terry - I've been a member for a few years now and this is a very active group - especially with lots of challenges. One of the things I've enjoyed most about this group is finding new authors and lots of good books to read.

Concerning thrillers, I would recommend the following authors - Mary Alford, Dani Pettrey, Margaret Daley, Lynette Eason, Elizabeth Goddard, Katy Lee, Irene Hannon, and some by Vannetta Chapman.

Beth | 3 comments I'm looking for Christian fiction that has an element of mystery. Something that leaves you guessing until the end. No paranormal, gore or scary. Some romance, but not the main focus I've read everything by Julie Klassen and Joanna Politano if that gives you an idea.

message 237: by Ash Nicole (new)

Ash Nicole | 15 comments Hello everyone!
Recently, I've been very interested in learning about the renaissance and reformation time period. Medici's, Tudors and Elizabeth I etc. It's been difficult to find clean fiction on that time period, but I was hoping that someone could help give some suggestions. Do any of you have any ideas? I tend to enjoy more first-person biographical styles but I'm not too picky. I just would like a solid historical read about the time period that doesn't reads like a textbook LOL.

message 238: by Michelle (last edited Oct 31, 2024 03:19PM) (new)

Michelle | 626 comments In college I took a biography class on that time period. We read The Children of Henry VIII by Alison Weir , The Life of Elizabeth I by Alison Weir , and Galileo's Daughter A Historical Memoir of Science, Faith and Love by Dava Sobel (my favorite of the three). While they're not fiction and are GM books, they're engaging reads and from what I remember shouldn't have any content issues- it's been several years since I've read them.

message 239: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 626 comments For Christian Fiction, I recommend Luther and Katharina by Jody Hedlund . This is the only fiction I've read that takes place during the Reformation era.

message 240: by Bonny (last edited Nov 01, 2024 08:43AM) (new)

Bonny (bonnybonnybeth) | 667 comments Here are some Renaissance-era middle-grade or young-adult books I've read, with clean content (though not Christian):
Mary, Bloody Mary (Young Royals, #1) by Carolyn Meyer Mary, Bloody Mary by Carolyn Meyer (she's written a whole series of similar books)
Daughter of Venice by Donna Jo Napoli Daughter of Venice by Donna Jo Napoli (although I don't recommend other books by this author, this book was clean and fun and appropriate)
The Second Mrs. Gioconda by E.L. Konigsburg The Second Mrs. Gioconda by E.L. Konigsburg (loved this one, by a talented author)
I, Juan de Pareja by Elizabeth Borton de Treviño I, Juan de Pareja by Elizabeth Borton de Treviño (unique, as it tells the rare story of a Black artist)

For Christian middle-grade/young-adult books about the Reformation, I recommend everything by Louise A. Vernon, including:
Ink on His Fingers by Louise A. Vernon Ink on His Fingers
The Bible Smuggler by Louise A. Vernon The Bible Smuggler
The Beggar's Bible by Louise A. Vernon The Beggar's Bible
Thunderstorm in Church The Life of Martin Luther by Louise A. Vernon Thunderstorm in Church: The Life of Martin Luther
etc.

And I loved the Great Courses lecture series on this topic:
The History Of Christianity In The Reformation Era by Brad S. Gregory The History Of Christianity In The Reformation Era by Brad S. Gregory

I also have some adult books on this topic, which I will need to look up later. Have fun reading about this time period!

message 242: by Traci (new)

Traci Bond | 1 comments Hi, my name is Traci. I'm trying to find a book I read but cannot remember the title or author. What I remember about this book is that it was a fiction book, about a boy and a girl who meet as young children and become best friends. The boy dies as a child and the girl dies later as a young adult. She goes to where she thinks is heaven but is informed that she's not actually in heaven. She will experience different levels of this place, with the ultimate goal being Paradise/Heaven. She desperately tries to find her childhood friend who died as a child only to learn that because he was a child when he died, he went straight to Heaven. She's assigned guides throughout this experience and finds out that her friend also enters these different levels of heaven to assist those that need help, but only briefly, and then he returns to Heaven until needed again. I remember the cover of this book was green with leaves all over it. I know it's not much to go on but I'm praying that someone will recognize this brief description and will be able to help me with a title. Thank you in advance

this really isn't the right group to give those kind of 'spicy' romance recommendations, as our focus is on clean/Christian/non-spicy fiction 🙂

I believe it was a Christian Fiction book and it had a dog in the story.
I cant remember what it was about. And I don’t know the authors name and all I know about the title is that it was one word and probably started with an F.
The cover had a girl in a dress and in a field (maybe of flowers?)
It didn’t show her face from what I remember…
