Carlos (relampague) | 19 comments Hari Seldon, brilliant mathematician, met in the final days of the Galactic Empire a group of people able to predict behavior using equations. That was psychohistory. Equations predicted the fall of the Empire, and thirty thousand years barbarism before another period of peace.

Then he and his group devised a solution. They managed to send the most brilliant scientists to the end of the Galaxy, Terminus, which would form a foundation of technicians and scientists that would be the core of the 2nd Empire, forming this in a thousand years, thirty times less than in the case without interfering. Another Foundation, known as the second, would be located on an unknown planet, and bring together the psychohistorians which would correct the possible failures of Seldon Plan.

So far it has great and, for my taste, so it goes over 5 short stories, in which the first decades of evolution of the Foundation are shown, and the relationship with the warring worlds that are around. Displaying his wit and his (no arms) technological superiority, the Foundation will face a series of crises.

Although Asimov is accused of not creating charismatic characters, it seems to imply that the characters are not important in the history of a planet. He knows how to create mythical characters as Salvor Hardin, who endorsed the slogan "violence it is the last refuge of the incompetent" showing as patience, reason and technology may be imposed to violence to win without bloodshed.

Personally, I miss a greater role for female characters that do appear in Toward, Corrientes Space, Robots and Empire or The Limits of the Foundation.

In short, a brilliant work, despite being somewhat naive in some of their approaches, showing us a different way to face the future and shows us just a few strokes of what will be the Foundation.
