Q: If you could only recommend one book you read this year to everyone, what book would it be?

message 3: by Miodrag ★❥ (last edited Dec 31, 2014 05:34AM) (new)

Miodrag ★❥ | 889 comments On the Island (On the Island, #1) by Tracey Garvis-Graves This book just got to me, I never though I'll love it this much, so I would recommend this book to everyone, if you haven't read it yet, you should! ;)

message 4: by Meagan (last edited Dec 31, 2014 05:57AM) (new)

Meagan | 26 comments Paper Towns by John Green This books was one of my favorite that I read this year. It was heartfelt and it had deeper meaning behind the basic premise of the book and yet it was still light, funny and easy to read. This books actually made me laugh out loud at some parts and anyone looking for a fun easy read I would definatly recommend this book.

message 5: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall And for the reason why. Just read the review. :)

message 6: by Juli (new)

Juli Falling into Place by Amy Zhang
i just finished this book a week ago and i loved it, the way it's written is amazing. And the story is a little to dramatic but it's really good.

message 7: by Jessica (new)

Jessica The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
I read the book last month and I LOVED it!! It was one of those books that once you start it you can't put it down.

message 8: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 729 comments Stolen A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher because I loved it. It was an amazing book and I think it talks about important topics that a lot of people try to avoid.

message 9: by Desirée (new)

Desirée Bogen | 3 comments The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey This book finally got me into the dystopian genre. It was well written and I flew through it cause I couldn't put it down.

message 10: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Only ONE? That's a tough question, but I think I could safely go with Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens

message 11: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (last edited Dec 31, 2014 10:26AM) (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I agree with Vicki and have to say Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens ! It was a wonderful story that had amazing characters that felt so real and that made me root for them. It was truly an emotional story that I read in a day and a book that I didn't want to stop reading. I was truly glad that I picked this wonderful book up.

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 729 comments I agree with Jacque and Vicki! I was debating between Faking Normal and Stolen. Faking Normal was an amazing story. Plus, reading what you two said about it made me read the book this summer!

message 13: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi What is the book about? That Faking Normal. The blurb says something happened over summer, but I would like to know, since I don't feel comfortable with some topics and I don't want to suddenly find out while reading a book.

I don't want to say too much, but it's about (view spoiler)

message 16: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Thanks Jacquelyn and Vicki for answering! I guess I will just avoid the book then. I am not really comfortable with books about that topic.

message 17: by Evangelos (new)

Evangelos Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth absolutely! It is easy to read! I enjoyed it a lot and i in my opinion one the best YA books!

message 18: by Rae ❤ツ (new)

Rae ❤ツ I would totally recommend, Perfect Chemistry. It was amazing and thank you to my boyfriend for showing it to me.

message 19: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Mehsi, that's completely understandable. I especially "like" reading books with difficult topics because I often recommend them (certain ones) to students who specifically ask for books of that nature. Obviously some are far better and more sensitive in how the subject matter is treated & this book does an excellent job!

I can imagine that you might find them interesting to read, since you so often recommend them to students. I really like that you do that by the way. It shows you care about your students. :)

Indeed, the same goes for books about other subjects or topics. Some do a great job and treat it better, and some don't. I am glad to hear the book did an excellent job on handling the topic. I am sure there are enough people who would want to read such a book, I am just not one of those.

message 21: by Cheyenne (new)

Cheyenne | 565 comments Bloodmark (Bloodmark Saga, #1) by Aurora Whittet was definitely my favorite book this year! I would recommend it to everyone. The second book Bloodrealms (Bloodmark Saga, #2) by Aurora Whittet came out not to long ago and I'm itching to get my hands on it.

I love to read those kinds of books too but I have had a difficult time finding some. Could you recommend some to me?

description Q: What was your first pet's name and what type of animal was it?

message 24: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments My first pet was a cat named King. He was already living in my house when I was born. My parents were really afraid he wouldn't be good with me but he was so good!! He always cuddled with me when I was a baby and used to hop up on the chair and look into the bassinet while I was sleeping. He unfortunately died when I was about 6 and I still miss him. :( He was a great cat!

message 25: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments Sounds like he was a great companion.

message 26: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 729 comments My first pet was a 10 week old puppy! He's a black lab/border collie and we got him when I was 9 so that was 7 years ago! His name is Rocky and we flew him from Texas where he was abandoned along with the rest of his litter. We also got a kitten a couple of months later and her name is Coco. :)

message 27: by Mandiann (new)

Mandiann (goodreadscommandiann) | 6882 comments Oh I missed this yesterday.

I am going to answer both questions.

I would recommend Ready Player One by Ernest Cline but listen to the audio version if you can.

And the first pet I had was a cat named Smokey. He was a very gentle tabby and when I was a toddler he would let me pull his tail and lay on him.

message 33: by Trinity (last edited Jan 01, 2015 04:36PM) (new)

Trinity My first pet was a bunny named Isabella, I always about 4 when I got her for my birthday. I remember that day like it was yesterday, we were driving, we stopped at my dad's moms house and he came back with a shoebox and he put it in the middle of the two front seats. My mom and he looked back at me and asked, "can you guess what we got you for your birthday?" and the first thing that came out of my mouth was bunny. She was white with red eyes, she did look scary at first and boy did she bite! Even though she did bite a lot she was my first pet and she meant a lot to me. One day we were bringing in groceries and had the door open and we didn't see her get out when we closed the door. It wasn't until an hour after I had eaten dinner that I realized she was missing. We searched practically the whole night but never ended up finding her.

message 34: by Trinity (new)

Trinity
This is a pretty good resemblance of her. A couple of people found her creepy but I loved her nonetheless.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

My first pet was a cocker spaniel named Polo. My parents had her before I was born, but it was still really sad when we lost her a few years later.

message 36: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Lovegreen (lynn_lovegreen) My first pet was my family's dachshund, named Hexe. She was old and cranky by the time I arrived, but patient with me. :-)

message 37: by Meagan (new)

Meagan | 26 comments My first pet was a cat named Kitty (very original). I was 4 I think when we found him outside our house and decided to take him in. Even though originally he was just a stray cat, he ended up being the best pet I've ever had.

message 38: by Sara (new)

Sara | 343 comments OMG Meagan! My cat right now is named Kitty :)

My first pet was a fish. His name was Bubba. He had half of a back fin. Eventually I had a whole tank full of fish, but after they all passed Bubba was the last one remaining. He was a tough little fish.

message 41: by Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (last edited Jan 01, 2015 08:34PM) (new)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments The first pet that I had myself (not the family pet) was Tina, a red Beta fish. I was around 5.
The family pet was Nadia (named after the gymnast), who was a mutt. She was amazing and was 4 years old the time I was born. She lived to be 16 years old and I think of her as a huge part of my childhood.

message 42: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Going back MANY moon ago, the first pet I remember was a female Pekineses named Kitsy. She was a sweet little dog, BUT once she had a bone buried under the pillow on the couch and I bent down and kissed her and she bit me on my lip. I still have the scar. LOL

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

the first pet I had was about a year ago, he was a beta fish named Gilly - it was technically short for gilbert but I really just needed an excuse to name a fish gilly.

message 44: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi I have no clue what name(s) my first pets had. I only know they were goldfish. :) Sorry, too long ago for me to remember their names.

Q: If you could travel to any place in the world, all expenses paid, right now, where would you go?

message 46: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Only one place? I wouldn't be able to pick. It would either be Egypt or Japan. :)

message 47: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I would probably go to Switzerland!

message 48: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Oh Switzerland, that is a lovely place to go to. I also would love to go there, I have seen pictures of it and it looks gorgeous. :)

message 49: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Right?! My grandparents went and they make it sound absolutely gorgeous and lovely.

message 50: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments The ONE place I've always wanted to go to is Switzerland!! It started when I first read Heidi as a young girl. One of my granddaughter's dad is from Switzerland and she has gone there or to neighboring France ever since she was five. It would be a dream come true!

Is this a surprise for one of us lucky winners? Lol
