Michaela, I'm flattered that you have included one of my books on your list of possibilities. Thanks :)

Hi Tamara, now I know you´re a member here too, I´ll definitely have to read this book! :)

Michaela | 422 comments 1) Circe by Madeline Miller

Finished this today, but was a bit disappointed. Not too bad, but dragging, esp. in the beginning. Circe seems to me to be a bit depressed and self-pitying, and too much dependent on men, though there are also moments where she seems strong to me.

Michaela | 422 comments I increased the number of books for this challenge to 6.

I felt the same way about this Circe, Michaela. She is strong and empowered in Homer. Here she has an identity crisis and turns into the little mermaid.

A bit slow in the beginning, but I liked the different women´s description of their life and the events later on. All special characters, though some of them think a lot about men. ;) Otherwise they´re strong in their jobs, including the realistic Inspector Vera. Not quite my cup of tea, and the end was rushed and not really transparent. Saw some episodes of the British series which I liked better.

Good try, but not very convincing to me. Also thought Odysseus was too much in the centre, though only appearing in women´s tales. Good description of different characters.

I love this series! Though the book is slow in the beginning, it´s even more dramatic in the end. The solution is found per chance, and not so much by Brother Cadfael.

Michaela | 422 comments 5) Strong Poison by Dorothy L. Sayers

Sixth book in the Peter Wimsey series, the one where he meets Harriet Vane. Lots of funny and also odd parts in it, but I couldn´t get warm with the Lord. The end was quite long, and the solving based on something the reader couldn´t know. Hope to see more of Harriet Vane though!

Michaela | 422 comments 6) Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys

Very well written novel about Antoinette, the lady in the attic of Jane Eyre and her and Rochester´s story in the Carribean. Criticizing colonialism, but Antoinette seems sometimes too passive, though trying to work out her own life.
