Since we are getting close, we should start discussing ... who do we want as our first portal hero?

I think I like the look of Dagger the most, but they all have a mix easier and harder traits for me so I'm easy.

Iron Fist and Luke Cage seem a little harder.

Dagger and Jessica Jones both are appealing to me.

Cloak, Dagger or Jessica Jones would be easier for me to recruit. I am curious for the Secret one :)

Dagger would probably be my favourite, but I'm pretty easy and happy to go with a majority. Quake and Luke Cage look like the ones that I'd find the most difficult.

We are at 26 energy cells now, so when we get 4 more we can claim a portal hero.

Are you all comfortable with me claiming Dagger if that happens?

If JLA somehow scoops us, what is our back-up choice?

Yes, go for it as far as I'm concerned.

I don't have any real preference for a second choice but Jessica Jones seems to get a couple of votes above so maybe that one as our backup?

I read the bio but I'm not sure I understand everything. It's my first time doing the challenge.

The first team to get to 30 Energy Cells claims a portal hero. That hero is only for the team that claims them. The next is at 45, etc. The first time to hit 100 Energy Cells (if they do) gets the special bonus hero, who is kept hidden until then.

It is giving our team more heroes to recruit. The post with the heroes to choose from is under the directions explaining the whole game at the top of the challenge thread.

They are "portal heroes" because they are not from the JSA or JLA universe; they come from other media.

People usually support a portal hero that they just like or whose challenges seem more manageable.

Once we've unlocked one you just treat it like all the other heroes, so anyone/everyone in our team can read the books for it and recruit it. It's only the race to pick which one we get to add to our team's list that directly competes with JLA (other than getting more points in general of course). Some are definitely easier than others so getting first pick is a real bonus!

Wow thank you for your answers. My goal is to have fun reading, but adding a little bit of challenge is always good.

By the way, thank you Wayland for all of that. It is really fun so far.

And Vinca, I have a slight preference for Cloak or Dagger.

So if no one objects, I'll claim Dagger for our group when the opportunity arises.

Looks like Jessica Jones and Cloak are our next favs. We'll have to see what the other team picks.

Here are the challenges for Dagger:
1. Thief-read a book where a thief is a major character, where a heist is part of the plot, or with a thief on the cover

2. Blades-read a book with a major character who is highly skilled with blades, where someone gets stabbed, or with a bladed weapon of any kind on the cover

3. Hopes and Dreams- read a book where a major character has a big dream/goal, where hope is important to the story, or with “hope” or “dream” as part of the title

*Feel free to post book suggestions to help each other out.

For the third task, I'd thoroughly recommend The Sudden Appearance of Hope. I read it earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

For number 1. the first thing that comes to my mind is The Lies of Locke Lamora

I'm leaning towards Iron Fist; Cloak was a runner up last time.

Iron fist looks easy enough to find. Not liking the look of Luke Cage.

Iron Fist is probably my favourite of the remaining choices, followed by Quake I think, though it's a close call for second choice.

I don't think I really have a preference as I seem to be struggling even getting through the regular heroes this year :( (and I'm afraid to say I let the villains run wild!) But every little helps, right?

I've given up on chasing villains this year because of a lack of time and am just focusing on hero recruitment.

I'm doing the same since its my first time too and even with the ''not-working due to the pandemic'' I still struggle to find time to read.

Iron Fist has now been claimed by JLA so we might want to think about which one we'd like to go for next.

Edit: sorry, should have said, I think that my vote is currently leaning towards Cloak.

I just put up our final energy cell. So we can claim it as soon as we decide.

2. Ghengis Connie’s- read a book where someone eats any kind of Chinese food, where a restaurant is one of the settings, where someone lives over a business, or with a restaurant on the cover
3. Steel Hard Skin- read a book where someone is significantly tougher than human, where something is unbreakable, or with something very durable on the cover
