Discuss "Leaving Time" here...

Sofie | 86 comments I started reading this last night in the lead up to New Years because I just couldn't wait! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! So far I am loving how much it talks about elephants, I'm excited that this was picked for our group reads because we don't often read books on animals other than common house pets (which I have no problem with at all, I could read about dogs all day). I've always been so intrigued by elephants and hope to learn more about them. I am liking both characters as well. Anyways just thought I would start us off, I'm going to go read some more

I already listened to this book on audio Sofie. Glad someone is reading it. I too love all the animal books we read, but maybe if we start picking more books with story lines we might get more people to join in.

In this book you learn a lot about elephants for sure.

Sofie | 86 comments Hi Barb,
I agree! I have a few books that come to mind with a good storyline for our March poll so I'll make sure I post one when the discussion comes up

Sofie | 86 comments I'm finding it hard to get through because it's very slow giving out the details. I'm going to keep pushing through I just hope something interesting happens soon!

Sheri S. | 18 comments I haven't had time to begin Leaving Time, but I've always enjoyed Jodie Picoult's writing. I will check it out!

Susan Bazzett-Griffith | 6 comments I enjoyed this book so much more than I have any of Piccoult's other recent books that I surprised myself by staying up most of the night to finish it. I was even more shocked that the ending that I thought I had figured out was mostly off base, which was awesome, as I had become a bit cynical about Picoult's books because the last three I'd figured out before I finished them and was correct, making me think she was a one-trick pony. This book, not so much. I adored the characters; I was in love with all of the elephant stories, and I was completely blown away by the ending. Best Picoult book (and ending) I've read since Keeping Faith. Highly recommended for Picoult and Chamberlain fans. A page turner with shocking twists.

I finished it last month.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 22 comments I really loved this book. I read it awhile back. I have been waiting for it to come out because about a year before it came out I got an email and newsletter in the mail from The Elephant Sanctuary here in TN, which is one of my charities, telling of Jodi Piccoult coming to the sanctuary to research for the book. I thought she did a wonderful job with this book. The characters were great and the ending was not what I expected and had me in tears. Also a big shout out for Jodi doing some event book signing etc in Nashville with proceeds to the Sanctuary. I love most of her books, but this one has a special place on my heart.

Sofie | 86 comments Hi guys,
I finished it a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it! It's not a genre I usually read but as it was based a lot on elephants I was intrigued. I loved the character structure and how you could never tell what was going to happen next. I liked how much research was done on elephants and really commend Jodi for the time she took to write such an interesting read. I was a bit taken back by the last twist and not sure still how I feel about it but the book overall was really brilliant and entertaining right to the end!

I liked it but I liked Jodi's Wolf book better. To me it was more of a story behind it.

The elephant book was more educational about elephants. Don't get me wrong, I love elephants, but wanted more of a story too.

I did learn a lot about elephants I didn't know.

Sofie | 86 comments Yeah that's true, I am reading lone wolf at the moment and totally get what you mean about the storyline compared to leaving time. Even though it jumps back and forth with characters it does stick to the same story. I can't wait to finish it, I'm a but unsure about wanting to though as it's such a sad topic and I can't see there being a happy ending

Lesley I loved this book. I actually read along with the audio. I love elephants so I didn't mind the info about them.

Sofie | 86 comments Yeah it was really cool how much we learnt about the elephants :) they're so interesting
