Jorran | 184 comments I have finished the following books:

The Back-Up Plan by Debra Webb A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor The Concrete Blonde (Harry Bosch, #3) by Michael Connelly Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2) by Laini Taylor

The Backup Plan by Debra Webb was not a great read but it was my 1st book for 2015.
It was one of the common recipes for romance. Boy rescues girl, pursues her but girl has sworn off love because she was hurt by previous boyfriend, etc, etc. Throw in a few other plot lines, like a boss on the prowl and we have a romance. I gave this 2 stars.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I have heard so much about this series and I was eager to start. Imagine my surprise when I had to force myself to continue reading. The book had too much information packed on the pages. I get that the Dr. Bishop is a scholar and doing research but seriously, I don't think I needed to do the research with her. Anyway, the book picked up half way through and held my attention enough to want continue the series. This one I gave 3 stars.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor. This series has been on my TBR pile since early last year when I found it while browsing my library's e-catalog. This one wasn't keeping my attention at first either until Jonetta suggested that I try it in audio and it was love ever after.
This one is a 4 star read.

The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly. This is the 3rd book in the series and Harry is really growing on me. Didn't see that bad guy coming. I got it wrong the first two times just like Harry did. This is another 4 star read.

Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor. This 2nd book in the series made me so sad, laugh out loud and sad again. The story is really heating up. 4 stars

I'm more than 1/2 way through The Concrete Blonde and loving it.

Great Jonetta! I think you'll be surprised by who the bad guy is.

I'm thinking the current prime suspect is too obvious.

Jorran | 184 comments Finished Angels' Pawn (Guild Hunter, #0.6) by Nalini Singh and Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter, #7) by Nalini Singh

Angel's Pawn by Nalini Singh: I had this novella forever but decided to read it before Archangel's Shadows since it was a part of the story of Ashwini and Janvier. It was an okay read since it provide a little back story on Janvier.

Archangel's Shadows: I began this with great expectations but sadly the illusion of Ashwini and Janvier's romance was better than the romance itself. That being said, the book was a great read and I didn't really miss the romance at all. We see the burgeoning relationship between Elena and the Legion and more interaction with her and the other archangels. We also see the members of the Seven interacting among themselves. My new love is Naasir. I can't wait to find out what he is.

Jorran | 184 comments Finished Captivated by You (Crossfire, #4) by Sylvia Day and Pillar of Fire (The Whale Hunter, #1) by Karah Quinney

Captivated by You by Sylvia Day would have made a great novella if not for the many, many pages of sex, the many pages of how beautiful Eva was and how Gideon would simply die if she left him which turned it into a full length novel. I gave this 3 stars only because I kept reading.

Pillar of Fire, Whale Hunter #1, by Karah Quinney. This was not on my plan but saw it while scrolling through my TBR pile and decided to read. I'm glad I did because it was a great read and I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

When I heard she'd added another book, I feared this might be the outcome. *sigh*

Jorran | 184 comments Finished Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor , Sacred Fire (Book Two - The Whale Hunter Series) by Karah Quinney , Sacred Path (Book Three - The Whale Hunter Series) by Karah Quinney and Doubleblind (Sirantha Jax, #3) by Ann Aguirre .

Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor
Great book, really, really long audio. The copy I got from library was in a format which speed couldn't be increased. Anyway, I endured with many, many replays and loved it throughout. Love the story, love Karou and Akiva and love Zuzana (and Mik) more. Zuzana is hilarious. This more than deserve the 5 stars I gave it.

Sacred Fire by Karah Quinney
I've always have a weakness for prehistoric stories and this trilogy is a pretty good one. It was easy to read and I couldn't wait to go to the other book. This one is a 3 stars.

Sacred Path by Karah Quinney
Although, this was a good read, I didn't like it as much as the previous two. I think I kind of gave up on Sunflower. I know that she had a major disadvantage but I thought she would have learnt more and be a little wiser. Another 3 stars.

Doubleblind by Ann Aguirre
Another great read. This one shows the development of Sirantha into a responsible adult. The friendship between she and Vel is a beautiful thing. Love that she's willing to fight for March. This one also gets 5 stars.

Tracey (trakka) | 1363 comments Jorran, it's interesting that you thought A Discovery of Witches was wordy. I did read this one and enjoy it but then when I went on and read Shadow of Night I found it very wordy and stopped reading. I would like to try it again but I think I will wait until I can read big chunks at a time! I thought everyone loved this series except for me.

A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness and Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness are very detail oriented and could definitely have benefited from a good editor. Nevertheless, the story, the characters and the symbolism were so good that I didn't mind the wordy prose as much. I did listen to the audiobook on 1.25 speed, which may have helped.

Jorran | 184 comments Tracy, 'Wordy' is a good description. I did enjoy the second half of the book though. I just finished the second book and it was also a struggle but I persevered.

Lauren, I believe that I would have appreciate the books more if I had gone the audio route but my library didn't have the audio version and since I had the books already...

Jorran | 184 comments I read 23 books this month but as usual, only half of that number was on my plan.

I surprised myself by finishing 7 of the 9 audio books I started.

Wonderful stats! Doesn't matter if they were on your plan if you enjoyed them.

Jorran | 184 comments Thanks Jonetta. I just sometimes wish I was better able to follow to follow the plan I make. Oh well, at least I had fun.
