mine were white tshirts and white shorts. White shorts. Who on earth makes girls wear white shorts during puberty?

I relate to this! Big boobs and baggy shirts, distracting the boys (sometimes on purpose I admit.) The struggle was real.

Haha! Same here! Though I went out of my way to hide. I hit puberty hard at 11, and gym especially was mortifying.

We didn't get the teacher checking our towels... we actually had her showering with us! No private cubicles or anything either, just one big wet room. Looking back, kinda creepy, but at the time no-one thought anything of it...

Yup 11 for me too. Though we didn't have gym until middle school so I got a couple years before that nightmare started. So of course I had nice pair of breasts by that time and it was just... awful...

message 556: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I feel so sorry for all of you that you had to go through this... we got to wear whatever and nobody showered with us (or even forced us to shower). We were also separated by gender until 11th grade.

message 557: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Wow! Sounds like a lot of us went through some bad stuff in former days of PE. Grateful we at least had individual showers. Middle school has got to be the most awkward stage of development with either feeling like you're too developed or too underdeveloped. Here's to empathy for our daughters and granddaughters in that stage of life and to us for managing to come out as strong, secure women! Well...most of the time! :)

We had the same jumpsuits Nanci...ours were blue. I didn't suffer the wedgie problem...sorry sorry for that!

message 559: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments My junior high (middle school) was 7-9 and that was back in 1962-1964. We had green shorts & tops we had to purchase so we were on uniform. We had to shower or get cuts which lowered our grades. Showers were open in a large room but if you were on your period you could go into a private one. We didn’t have to show our naked bodies but teachers were right at the entrance to the shower room and they would check us off. I don’t recall much more than that considering it was so long ago. But I do remember that the boys and the girls were separated as far as PE exercises and back in those days we could still get paddled. I never did get paddled but we often saw boys get paddled on the playground that was on a level higher than us.

message 560: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments Has anyone seen a countdown to the start? I swear I saw one somewhere, and then I was distracted by the knickers talk.
I was not a fan of gym class generally, but I realize I had it a lot easier than most here. Wedgies, butt cheeks, weird shower inspections, wow. Almost makes me nostalgic for a good game of dodgeball. Almost.

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments Do the rounds end at 11:59pm London time on the last day of the round? So this first round would end 11:59pm on the 26th & the next round would begin at midnight on the 27th?

message 564: by [[ Frankie ]] (new)

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments I was gonna make a countdown to the end of the round for my team, but I couldn’t find a timer, nor a specific time for the ending of the round. I know the challenge started at 10pm London time, but I didn’t know if that would be the same for the end of the rounds, also. :p

That is the check-in time for the Captain’s, your team Captaons May want you finished earlier or hold the book over to the next round. Check with your team Captains how they wish to handle the round end, I know your team Captains well and they are very accommodating.

& abso-freaking-lutely my captains are truly amazing! I’d say most of us probably know that.😉 Was extremely happy (& lucky) to have been placed on a team with them!

I'm missing the Euros this year, I always enjoying watching as many matches as I can, and following the results of those I can't. But like so many things, it is best it's not happening at the moment.

Melindam | 8304 comments Destination: Pride and Prejudice, Hertfordshire - Derbyshire

Choosing destination: It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a P&P Fan in possession of a valid passport, must be in want of a visit to England.

On arrival: This landscape is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me.

After 1-2 weeks: “What are men to rocks and mountains?”

Before departing for home: I must be allowed to tell how ardently I admire and love these landscapes!!!!

Tripadvisor recommendations :

My stay in the Longbourn B&B was very pleasant. The food was very good (much better than in Lucas Lodge) even though the landlady was slightly neurotic and kept asking, whether I have any eligible brothers or male relatives. One of her girls kept coughing and another played the piano very badly.

Rosings 5-star hotel: a stately and rich place, though definitely overpriced, with stiff staff.
I was told at the reception that the chimney piece in the second drawing room was worth 8oo pounds.
They also have their own chapel and a resident clergyman.

Pemberly: Girls! You must go there! The place is gorgeous inside-out. And the owner is yummy if somewhat haughty!

Jenny | 8052 comments Melindam. Brilliant. And, since Cat challenged me, here is another...

Want to go somewhere but are afraid to leave the house?

For those of you who are loving the quarantine, The Unknown offers a different type of vacation.

No need to pack.
No need to schedule an Uber.
Just go to bed, and you may wake up in your new quarters.

Only eight people at a time are allowed in the facility.
You will have a private room (that locks you in at night).
You will have three meals a day (sorry, no special requests).
Showers and laundry available (short showers only please).
Board games and art supplies are provided, (if you can find them).
Daily exercise, individually designed for each guest is encouraged, (really, it is important to do so).

Please don't ask questions.
Please do as you are told.

Enjoy your stay away from it all.
Didn't you want to get away from it all?*
You may be here a while.

*no customer reviews available

Jenny | 8052 comments I love finding a book on KU that is really worth reading. This was an unexpectedly good book, and just what I was in the mood for.

Of course, I have been rereading Stephen King books this round, so my brain is clearly in a disastrous place anyway.

Hey Cat!

Eni thinks she should get extra bonus points for reading a book set in the Rocky Mountains because our word for this round is Rocky Mountains.

I totally agree ;-)))

Hahahaha!
Nice try, but not this game (remember the keep it simple plan??)! Let's add it to the mix bucket though?

Also in the mix bucket, and held out here for player consultation: having points for the letters, so tough letters get an extra point (or tiered, like in lava)??

Not with a random spin of the wheel, no.
Yes, if the teams get to choose words, or there is an extra word per round that has a lot of hard letters in it. Or something like that.

message 587: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4254 comments I agree with Jenny. If random, you have a range of 90-9 tough letters and we are not even 2 full rounds in. If teams stay this big, I would be hesitant to choose words as Lava teams were only 4 people.

I thought of doing an informal buddy read with my team, and there is a bit of interest in a couple of books that would work. I thought I would see if there is broader interest in reading either or both of these books this round. If so, I will request threads for them.
