Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments quick question, are re-reads ok if it has been more than 6 months since the last read? is that the consensus or am I mixing something up?

Yeah, that's the standard rules :)

message 109: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Yay! I'm very excited for Wheel. I put the number of books I'm reading lower than I normally would but if things change and I'm actually able to sit down with a book I guess I'll read something longer. I've read three books this month and it isn't like I can go out and do things.

I saw a few people mention The House in the Cerulean Sea and it is one of the best, if not the best, book I've read so far this year.

Celia Buell (semi hiatus) (celiareadsbooks) | 655 comments wait, where do I sign up for this? sorry I haven't done many team challenges with this group.

message 111: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4254 comments Yay, more Murderbot readers.

I picked up The House in the Cerulean Sea the day before the libraries closed here and have had it as a 14 day book since March 12. This kind of bothers me even though there is no one at the library to take it back. It is an amazing book and I have got a now former housemate and my mum to read it as well.

If you go onto the rules section of the readathon, there is a linked google docs document that you have to fill in. Just a note, it didn't show up for me on my phone or iPad so I would recommend using a laptop to do so!

My hold on the e-copy of the new Murderbot book *just* came in, a bit earlier than I expected! I have to check it out by tomorrow night or else I lose my place in line. But I think it's a 3 week loan, which means I can hang onto it until Wheel since it's good to have some N titles :)

That's funny about your 14 day book extended indefinitely. A lot of libraries are accepting returns in book bins, but just not able to check them back out to new users again. Though I know a lot are starting curbside pick-up sorts of arrangements. (I work in an academic library, not a public library, so my situation is different!)

message 116: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I still have a book I got from my library in the middle of February... extended my loan once to what would've been six weeks total, but the library closed in the middle of March. It's since been automatically extended several times & the most recent return date is June 13 - but hey, I actually finally got around to reading it last week!

My library actually re-opened a couple weeks ago so I could go and return it now. But last time I walked past the queue was at least 20 meters...

How can you wait that long on Murderbot???? I took a day off working on final paper to read my library copy. I have no patience.

message 118: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (writers_soul) | 426 comments Just signed up this is my first wheel, super excited! I need something to push me out of this reading slump :)

message 119: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 8052 comments I can see waiting to read the first Murderbot. If you haven't read it yet, you don't know what you are missing. With the second book however, no waiting is soooooo much better. I would recommend checking out the next ones before you finish the first.

Patience as a virtue sucks. Just saying.

message 120: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I've read all the previous ones, it's the new one, Network Effect, that just came in and I'm trying to force myself to wait on reading.
But: we'll see how this waiting goes. ;D

It is as good as the second one (which was my previous favorite) so I vote for no waiting

I put 17 (I think), but I just got some significant Day Job news that means less reading time over the summer.

This maybe is a stupid question but it’s one book a fortnight...how long is that? I feel like it’s a week or two weeks maybe? I know I’ve heard the word before(outside the game lol)— I’m just trying to make sure I can fulfill the timeframe. :-)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Hello fellow isolationists! How's everybody doing out there? I'm still working & have been reading like a fiend this whole time. Sometimes you just need to get your mind off the pandemic doom & gloom....
I'm actually in the middle of All Systems Red right now. Too funny. I think I'll continue on with the series. I'm in Hawaii and our public libraries are still closed. I hope I'll be able to give Wheel my best shot in spite of that. The main thing I've learned from all this is I hate reading on my tablet!!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Our libraries are re-opening on Monday. Hallelujah! Just in time for the Wheel a thon.

Our local library opened this week - 3 days a week only and you can’t browse. You order through the catalog only and then pick up once it’s arrived at the branch.
Our little library is just a demountable so by the time the librarians are there, will be no room for anyone else hardly if you allow 4 sq meters per person.

Restrictions have really eased over in NSW. Here in VIC, libraries will remain closed but the chutes will open next week so we can return the books we got out 2 months ago. LOL.

It’s very confusing watching the news when they are talking about what restrictions are being lifted - you need to pay attention as to whether it is your state or another one.

South Australia opened children’s playgrounds a week before QLD and it was showing kids happily playing on the TV. One of my neighbours rushed to the local park here in QLD with her grandchildren and they were all closed. She was most put out but hadn’t clicked the happy children were only in South Australia

QLD and SA are definitely going the fastest with the relaxing of restrictions. The VIC premier is very careful, although he went pretty fast with relaxing some restrictions in just 10 days.
Playgrounds opened yesterday here, but libraries will remain closed until further notice. They open the zoos and pools from next week and we can get our hair cut again and our nails done. Priorities, huh...I wish the libraries would open already, I really miss it!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I've been lucky Chava. Our library has had the Library to You service. You order it on line and they deliver to your door for $2.50. All sanitised as well. And we've still been able to return books we've read to the chutes to keep the circulation going.

But I've really missed the browsing. And we have 4 libraries usually linked to borrow and we've only been able to borrow from what's on the shelves at our home library. But I'm not complaining, the Library to You has been fantastic.

I really shouldn't complain. My bookcase literally collapsed last week with the weight of unread books. They are on shelves 2 deep and then some on top of that. It's gotten out of control. I'm a book hoarder LOL. My husband kindly asked me to go through them and give some away...

Also, thank you me fellow Aussies for updating me on what's going on as I find the news to depressing and boring. I've been waiting for my local library to open as well. I really miss it

That doesn't mean you have too many books. it means you don't have enough bookcases! ;)
