My first thought was that not all of these stories are in the fantasy genre, (but many were). Overall, I liked the book, but expected more from some of the popular "seasoned" writers.
For me, the best part (most enjoyable) was reading it with this group. The comments and observations from other readers were/are (some still coming in) an added bonus. Many of the authors were new to me, so to get the perspective of those who are familiar with their writing was very helpful. I've added some new books to read, based on comments here.
Including a collection of short stories as a monthly group read selection was helpful. It would be nice to have the option for more group short story collections from time to time.

Thanks to the anthology, I tried authors I otherwise wouldn't have, and some of them I liked well enough that I'll look at other things they've written (just what we all need, right? bigger TBR piles!).

3 stars because of the narrators, 4 stars for the book.

Glad you were able to enjoy at least parts of the book. Bummer about the "bad" narration.

My full review on all the seperate stories can be read here:

I read your review side by side with my own which also reviews each story separately (here is the link) and it is very interesting to compare our results :)

That IS interesting indeed! :D Seems like we pretty much have the same opinion on every story except for the Stephen Saylor one. And even there we both concluded the whole thing was predictable as f***. ;).
Your review is way more in-depth than my gibberish though :$

I write a couple more sentences for each story because I found out that weeks after reading them, I often can't remember what they were about.
One problem is that it is very time-consuming. The other problem is that GR has got a limit on review lengths. That's why I started outsourcing anthology reviews to wordpress.

Time-consuming indeed, way more than the average book review. I didn't even know about the limit. Oh man, if I had found out after endless copy-and-pasting that it didn't fit...how frustrating!
This was really an interesting and enjoyable read. There were a few stories that were not very good but other than those three or four tales most were really good. It would have a 3.5 because of those few but the rest of the book warrants a 4.
I'm sure many are skipping around.
