Ready when you are!

Feel free to post your comments on what you have read so far, Leigh :)

Read the first 3 chapters now, seems interesting so far.
They sure smoke and drink a lot, huh? Guess that's probably what band members do in real life as well. It even approaches drug problems too.

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I personally enjoy the realistic way these guys act and talk. I have brothers and used to hang out with honest (sometimes crude) guys and this has a genuine feel to it. I'm only a couple of chapters in, too.

Yeah I am not too familiar with the reality but it does sound like something they would do.

I think I started chapter 5 last night and was glad to finally see some action. Ray's description of Dan's eyes was freaky.

He sure is getting thirsty a lot, huh? :)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I wish the chapters were numbered, are you keeping track in your head? I'm at about 25%, and things are really picking up. Except for the alley attack and when Dan jumps at Ray, not much happens until then. A lot of description, which was a problem for me in the last book.

I usually enjoy description, but there is quite a bit of unnecessary details about their day to day travelling and work, in my opinion. But things are looking scarier now!

I'm just surprised that the word 'rabies' has never once been mentioned. After the initial attack, that should have been their first thought. Freaky bat bite.... I would like for it to be mentioned, at least.

My chapters are numbered O_o Maybe you have a different version?

I agree, it's too detailed at times. And yes, when Dan was attacked I wondered why he wouldn't get at least a blood test if only to look for rabies, though it is explained that it might mean not being able to do the shows. Still weird though that they would discard seeing a doctor like that.

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments They finally mention rabies at 30%! And the chapter #14 suddenly appeared.

(view spoiler)

Oh my gosh you are so much farther away from me! I haven't been able to read any more. I hope more people will join in!

Done with chapter 7 and interesting discussion they had there!
Does anyone else find it peculiar that this book was written by a woman? So far it sounds like the perfect bro book xD

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I agree it feels pretty masculine. My chapter numbers are still missing for the most part, so it's hard to be specific about events. After chapter 14, things get more and more creepy, but the story still gets bogged down in unnecessary details about Dan and Ray from day to day. I understand the author has to give us some build-up and some parts are interesting and pertinent.

I'll probably finish today, but keep posting wherever you are in the story!

I am now done with chapter 20 and am wondering how long they can keep this up. Seems like it's been a while since it's been getting out of hand.

That Dan sure is a lucky guy, huh? Getting one friend to help is lucky enough, but two?

It still feels slow paced to me. But what bothers me the most is that the synopsis tells too much. Again. I am exactly halfway through the book and still don't know what this is about: Unaware that the parasite driving Dan’s addiction has the potential to wipe out humankind, the two are willing to try anything to solve Dan’s problem—not realizing that solving it could unleash a much larger one upon the world.

And yes, the cat scene actually made me gag. Along with several others. I find a lot is just gross instead of scary.

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Did you get to the hotel scene, yet?

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
No, I just started part II. Last 'scene' was the goth shop.

Just started part III. Things started to get really interesting towards the end of part II (view spoiler)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments I agree on all parts!

Just had to get that in. HNY!"

Wait a minute, we are having a serious discussion about suckers here. Seriously. I mean these suckers are totally nasty, not at all to be confused with the suckers you (or my kids) stick in your mouth to eat. N-A-S-T-Y. Trust me on this.

Happy New Year to you too!

Nasty, gross, creepy, whatever you want to call it :P
Are you done with the book yet, Leigh? Any idea when you'll post the review?

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Yes, I finished yesterday. I was waiting for you to finish in case you pointed out anything I missed or brought up any questions. I'm still divided on how I feel about the ending, too.

Hmm ok not going to have much time today but I am counting on finishing by tomorrow for sure.

I'm not convinced that the blurb accurately reflects the novel, about unleashing a greater problem. (view spoiler)

Ray is unbelievably supportive of Dan, especially given that neither of them knows exactly what is going on and if this is life or death or not. I would have taken my friend to the hospital....But he does keep Dan alive.

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Aaron(Reblast) wrote: "Thanks, Leigh. Suckers in all seriousness from now on. None of that candy talk.

Is it bitter cold where you are? It is here."

I'm glad to see that we are all one the same deadly serious page now. :-) I really can't complain too much about the weather here!

I thought the same. When I am reading a book I think I always unconsciously wonder whether I would do the same thing as the character were I in their shoes. In this case, I can't be 100% sure. Especially when things started escalating, I think I would have gone to the hospital.

Hi, Aaron :)

Hey Leigh, I am almost done, is there anything in particular you'd like to discuss before posting our reviews?

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Just let me know your thoughts on the ending, I'm still undecided.

@Aaron, next time you're reading the book with us!

Thank you very much for the opportunity to read and review your book, Zoe :)

You're welcome, Ana - and thank you for reading and reviewing it. (I may drop you a message to see if I can get some further input on the blurb when I get a chance, too.)

Leigh - what are you reading your copy on? I'm trying to figure out the missing chapter number issue, and I haven't been able to duplicate it (yet).

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments It's the copy I bought from Amazon (US). Only a handful of the chapter numbers ever appeared, otherwise chapters were just separated by TTT marks. Overall, it was a very good book. I will get my review up tomorrow, hopefully. Do you want these on Amazon and Goodreads?

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

There are supposed to be three crosses denoting the scene breaks between chapters, but all the chapters themselves should say "Chapter [whatever number]."

The ebook's only available as a pre-order from Amazon, so perhaps it's the copy I sent you? What device are you reading it on (so I can see if I can find someone else with the same device to check the file out)?

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments You are right! I got yours confused with another book....how embarrassing. You sent me a .mobi file directly to my email on the 20th of Nov.
