binter | 218 comments Is it possible to place a hold or to pre-order a yet-to-be-released book using Overdrive or OneClick? I know how Audible offers a pre-order option but do Overdrive/OneClick?

Patricia Brigg's Dead Heat Dead Heat (Alpha & Omega, #4) by Patricia Briggs is due for release next month and my library's hold queue is already filling up.

If this can't be done, I'll try to narrow down the exact release date (I can't recall the best website for that) and be an early bird so I don't wind up 37th in the hold queue.

Casseroll | 45 comments As long as your library has it listed you can. Check both places and put on hold in both of possible. Usually audio is delayed depending on popularity and sales.

It's the "if possible" that I'm asking about. I don't see ANY upcoming releases listed on Overdrive or OneClick. The book doesn't appear in a search and it's possible that it won't until it's actually been released. I know Audible has this pre-order feature so wondered about those other two sites.

Before giving up hope (and setting my alarm for very early on release day to beat the stampede of other Patricia Brigg's fans), I thought if I'd check with this knowledgeable group.

**My library does have the book listed and available for hold but only for the physical book & CD. They both show "on order".

Casseroll | 45 comments This all depends on your library's approach to ordering and popularity of this type of media. There's no guarantee when and if they'll order the item. If Overdrive has it, your library still has to order the book. Put in a "suggest a purchase" to see if they can order it. If so, you'll more than likely be at the top of the que. Also, if your library puts out newsletters or blog posts on new material available you can do it from there as well. My library system has "Wowbrary" to let us know when items are to be released and now available in all formats. Worst comes to worst, check each week.

I just had two Overdrive pre-order books come through, assuming you mean items that are in the catalog as a library's "owned" items, but have a notation of "to be available on such and such future date" with holds allowed in advance?

Right there are very few in the catalog that I can pre-order it's getting better, the pre-orders have only been in the last year, before that sometimes it was a month after the book came out before it appeared. Also the selection in the Overdrive catalog is getting better as they and publishers make new agreements. If your library has the option to search and recommend to library if what you are looking for shows up there than it is available if it doesn't than the library can't get it.

binter | 218 comments Thanks for the info.

I'll communicate with my library about the recommendation for the book.
I'm glad to hear your OverDrive experiences, MissSusie. I've always liked it and am happy to hear that some pre-orders are available. Hopefully, that feature will continue to grow.
