Fixed. I didn't pay attention to what edition it was on when I posted the book so it defaulted to the one that automatically pops up. It's now linked to the kindle edition I read.

On a different note...would In a Badger Way (Honey Badger Chronicles, #2) by Shelly Laurenston work for Cover: Stripes do you think? It's got tiger stripes in the background.

Look like tents to me.

Joanne I think those would both work for stripes and tents.

If you’re talking about the horizontal markings they are too ragged to be stripes.

I loved the Zodiac (Zodiac, #1) by Romina Russell series (sci-fi/epic fantasy) and the Nyxia (The Nyxia Triad, #1) by Scott Reintgen series (space opera)

For Fantasy I recommend:

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1) by Jay Kristoff The Last Wish (The Witcher, #0.5) by Andrzej Sapkowski Elantris (Elantris, #1) by Brandon Sanderson Thief's Magic (Millennium’s Rule, #1) by Trudi Canavan (Currently reading that, very good so far)

And for Space Opera I cannot recommend The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers, #1) by Becky Chambers enough. the Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman series is very good as well.

Hey Danielle! So I know we've been on some teams together before, but I'm not sure I've ever gotten to recommend books for you so I had some fun with this. I'm recommending first in series but please consider that a recommendation for the series as a whole if it's a series you've already started.

MM Fantasy/Sci-Fi - A Ferry of Bones & Gold (Soulbound, #1) by Hailey Turner Black Dog Blues (Kai Gracen, #1) by Rhys Ford The Lightning-Struck Heart (Tales From Verania, #1) by T.J. Klune Bone Rider by J. Fally Chaos Station (Chaos Station, #1) by Jenn Burke

Fantasy/Sci-Fi - The Diamond Throne (The Elenium, #1) by David Eddings Heir to the Shadows (The Black Jewels, #2) by Anne Bishop The Black Gryphon (Valdemar Mage Wars #1) by Mercedes Lackey The Rowan (The Tower and the Hive, #1) by Anne McCaffrey Crystal Singer (Crystal Singer, #1) by Anne McCaffrey Born of Night (The League Nemesis Rising #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Ok team question -- for Cover: Lizard, will fantasy type lizards (aka dragons or the like) work? They're often referred to as big lizards. Was thinking of using The Last Wish (The Witcher, #0.5) by Andrzej Sapkowski .

I had to delve into my zoological knowledge background for that one Shelby. Fantasy dragons are a type of lizard the word deriving from Draco. The Draco lizards and the Komodo Dragon are real life examples

interesting question. Personally, I think we can classify dragons as big fire breathing lizards. I don't why we couldn't. :)

Brigia | 205 comments I have just finished House of Earth and Blood; the male MC is called Hunt Athalar, but it is explained in the book that Hunt is actually a nickname and his real name is Orion. Would this work for "O", then? And if yes, do I need to include a quote from the book?

Updated

We have completed 5 spell-outs of our word with 2 currently in progress.
We have completed 3 tags, if you are unable to complete a book with a claimed task, please let us know as soon as possible.

When completing the s/sheet please ensure you are adding the read date when changing the status to complete. I have changed this to a pick list to make it easier.

message 433: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments How is everyone doing with their reading, I have downloaded the audio of The Sun Down Motel so am hoping to get that started over the weekend. Also have I, Michael Bennett to read this week.

@Chris and Jeremy I don't see any completions for you. Can you provide us with an update.

Don't forget the BOM for those extra points.

Good Work Team

This is set for an hour earlier than our check-in time to allow Rina and Myself time to make final changes

message 435: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I've started The Sun Down Motel but it hasn't pulled me in yet. Definitely not keeping up with the BOM reading schedule but I should finish it next round if not this one. I'm mostly focusing on the other three books I've got on the go.

I generally put a lot of planned books on the spreadsheet. Should I not do this as much for next round? And should I delete or move some of the ones I probably won't get to until next round?

It’s fine to put the planned books on the spreadsheet, as we get bonus points for 10 books with the relevant tags if you have noted any of these down it is these ones we need to know about if you are unable to complete so that we can plan accordingly 😊

message 439: by Brigia (new)

Brigia | 205 comments I keep having to switch books in this round, due to other challenges I have going on. I downloaded The Sun Down Motel, though, and am going to start today. I really liked The Broken Girls, so I have high expectations!

Okay. I will make an effort to start and finish This Tender Land by the time it's over, which I have for Indigenous. Reading has been slower this week but I'll try to work with that one after I finish my current book.

Joanne How many tags do we need as a team? 10? Do we have enough books claimed? I will have my second tagged book done by the deadline.

message 443: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments I know I knocked out one Tiger tag already and I've got two desert tags as possibles. I've started Dune already and am working through it. Hoping to still get to An Ember in the Ashes as well, but depending on other challenges I might need to read a few other things first.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments Ok another for the purposes of not getting us into trouble question...when it comes to the animals on covers, do the need to be real animals or will a representation work? Aka was thinking of using On Point (Out of Uniform #3) by Annabeth Albert for Cover: Bird as the eagle tattoo on his bicep would be a form of a bird.

I wouldn't call them deck chairs as they don't appear to have the shape of what I consider a deck chair to be. Basically they don't look like they're adjustable to lay flatter like you would poolside. They look like regular patio chairs, cushioned patio chairs even.

But I would count it as beach.

This one is more relaxed than other NBRC challenges. If you can clearly see that it is the depiction of a bird then it's allowed

I agree with Shelby on this, and a deck-chair is akin to a poolside chair, they look more like patio chairs.

Event though this has a beach setting from the precis there is no beach visible on the cover, you could use it for a body of water on the cover tho`
