maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I finished Outsidern by Stephen King . 631 pages. It has tag creepy :)

I'm not a huge Stephen King fan but this was a real page-turner. I stayed up late several evenings because I couldn't put it down.

Rubbish! Hope the meetings are at least worthwhile.

I'm v tired after a day entertaining a pickle-ish toddler, but I've managed to get 60% through Wait for It and I should finish The Unquiet tonight. Covers us for a Z and a U. Our 3rd spell out is v close to completion!

Navi, I am currently working on a personal goal of 100 biographies/memoirs by the time I'm 40 (I have 3 more years). Please feel free to check out my shelf. Also, I'm reading Untamed right now and I'm loving it so far! I have enjoyed many of the books by celebrities because they are a little more carefree than the scientific/historical ones. And, I've found many of the audio versions are ready by the author and that's always great because the inflections are genuine.

I've actually been curious about The Secret Barrister as I used to work as a barrister

It's added to the spreadsheet.

Camilla | 1885 comments Ahhh, it's a long weekend here in Finland, it's midsummer, which is a big thing here, almost everybody who is able to spends it on a summer cottage. I chose to stay at home and not go to my in-laws' cottage. Our older daughter will be here part of the time, but I'll have plenty of time to relax on our terrace and reeeaaad.

Same here :)

Doing a low-key celebration with a barbeque and then hopefully a relaxing weekend reading.

Sounds like a great weekend!

We always do something this weekend as my sister's birthday is 21st June. My mum's was 21st Dec which meant we celebrated midwinter too.

No, not this year.

The midsommarstång looks very similar to the English maypole, which is traditionally used on 1st May.

Rosina | 1800 comments what are top shelf points? Cant see reference in the rules

message 469: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
The top shelf points are the points for the tags we are searching for. The mods only told us there are 'reasons' it isn't labelled tags so I suspect the spreadsheet was doing something odd

message 470: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Are we still needing Z or Q books most? I’ve just finished my second book & can do a Q next if it’s the best option

message 471: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Z, Q and U are probably the gaps we have on the sheet at the moment. I'm about to update the official sheet again. Will certainly be able to use a Q either way!

message 472: by Mary X (last edited Jun 19, 2020 08:55AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I finished 7 Husbands. I have a Z book expiring soon so I plan to read that one next. Then I can my Q book or another Z as needed.

Our Elks lodge was finally able to reopen and that's made me a bit busier than usual as the lodge secretary. A lot of people put off paying during the shut down and are not suddenly in a hurry to pay and get their cards. (the Elks fiscal year runs 4/1-3/31).

message 473: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments How are we doing on I books? There's 2 in every spelling and that's not always an easy letter either.

What did you think of 7 husbands? I really enjoyed it and should pick up another by that author.

Glad you were able to reopen. I hope people pay without too much chasing.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Our 3rd spell out is done and the 4th is well on the way! Fantastic work for the 1st week of the challenge. In theory we can do 6.7 reads of it with the books we signed up as being able to read so slightly ahead of schedule.

message 477: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Mary - which task would you like to use 7 husbands for? Green cover?

message 478: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Sorry. I got interrupted while updating the spreadsheet. Green cover is good.

The book was pretty good. I liked it a lot more than Daisy Jones. But there are a lot of characters to keep track of in this one.

message 479: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments The lodge really needs the money from the dues payments so it's good that people are paying. But they all want their card immediately when they had 4 months to pay. (dues noticed go out in Feb.)

Yes, the other word for it in Swedish is majstång. AFAIK there are similar traditions involving poles like this in different countries, the exact time may vary.

I love this goal! I'm going to borrow it - but make it by 45 since I'm already 40 and I think I'll double the goal since it's almost twice as long as the goal you gave yourself. I think it's a fabulous idea.

message 485: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 507 comments The only knowledge I have about midsommar is from the movie, Midsommar which I thought was beautiful. The movie itself was horrifying but the scenery and the colors were amazing.

I haven't danced round a Maypole since I was 11. It's a tradition that is going out of fashion here.

Might take the inspiration on biographies too. I don't read many but there are a lot of fascinating people in the world.

I'm getting there with the sheet update today. We've got all the tags we need, so if you want to drop the others you've found that's not a problem. If you want to keep going then go for it!

Letters we are currently short of is U - there are 5 planned on the sheet at the moment which would get us 2 and a half more spell outs if they are all finished

Nope, just make sure the book is marked as read, and on your shelf, Sophie and I will add it to the team SS.

I'm good with that being white.

In terms of completion, put the date on the SS (or here) and say which task you want to use it for. Add it to your wheel shelf and we'll do the rest.
