Rosina | 1800 comments Have a great weekend.

Imke (immie75) | 1644 comments I'm starting round 2 as well. Just started reading
Sea Witch (Sea Witch, #1) by Sarah Henning by Sarah Henning, works for mermaid tag and for a couple of letters. I put the characters in that Goodreads mentions in the book description into the spreadsheet. I will update if I find more letters that fit.

I will also begin
Healing of the Wolf (The Wild Hunt Legacy Book 5) by Cherise Sinclair by Cherise Sinclair. This book doesn't have a page number mentioned on GR but the Kindle description says 461.

Wonderful, hope you enjoy the books from round 2.

In terms of tags, we are allowed plurals i.e. turtles, whales, oceans as variations, but nothing else.

message 654: by Nicole (new)

Nicole P | 1834 comments Finished my last book for round 1 and updated the SS. Will start on round 2 books.

message 655: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 507 comments Added a task to Queen of Shadows from round 1. No more books for me for round 1.

message 656: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Jenn - are you still reading Zodiac? No worries if you aren't, just wanted to check as I think I read that you were

But don't force yourself to finish if you don't want, we did amazing this round! Sophie and I will close up the spreadsheet in an hour or two.

message 657: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments I need the next round to start as I'm reading Ocean Light (Psy-Changeling Trinity, #2; Psy-Changeling, #17) by Nalini Singh which works for the underwater and have just under 2 hrs left. There are so many other things I need to be doing but all I want to do is continue as I'm obsessed with this series.

message 658: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Finished Zodiac.

message 659: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Awesome! I might actually try to finish my book Ocean Light so we can complete the last word

message 660: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments We are awesome! I'm super proud of us. We spelled our word 10 times. Great job team

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Well done everyone! You've been fantastic this round. Please don't finish any books for the next couple of hours. Read all but the last page if you must, but leave at least a sentence unread!

message 662: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Quick rules reminder:

If a book has fewer than 160 pages, we can't use it in wheelathon. If you want to read something with fewer pages, I'm ok with that as a break from challenge linked reading.

message 663: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 507 comments Thanks Sophie and Victoria! :) We kicked butt this round!

message 664: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Wow great job everyone!

Victoria | 1132 comments Just checked us in! Great start everyone!

I will say my reading will likely go down for the next round as I only have 2 more books in the Psy-Changling series, so will need something new to obsess over :)

Isn't it so sad when you finish a favorite series? I'm always thinking, "How long until enough time has passed for me to reread and enjoy this again?"

message 667: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I’m so impressed with how many times we managed to do the spell-out!

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
And you can all read those final pages now! We're in 3rd (by just 6 points from the team in 4th) which is fantastic! You are all making this challenge a pleasure with the way you are helping each other and reading up a storm.

message 669: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Well done so far everyone :) 3rd is a great result for week 1, especially with so many tricky letters.

message 670: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments I'll start on a round 2 book tomorrow. Just gotta figure out what I want to read.

1st points are on the board for round 2 now.

Mary C: have you got a task in mind for Surrender?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend (sorry yours is nearly over Nicole, hope next week isn't too crazy busy).

message 673: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I just came on to look for one for that book.

message 674: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I've updated the tracking sheet with the books that I'll hopefully be able to finish for round 2.

I've been in a reading slump for a while and this challenge has helped me get out of it. I only read 2 books in May and I've read 8 in June :)

message 675: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Yay for the challenge getting you out of a slump! To go from 2 books to 8 is great.

What was everyone's favourite read of round 1? Mine was The Bastille Spy which is a historical fiction about the Scarlet Pimpernel.

If anyone is checking the official hobbit sheet, I've decided to try something a little different this round, and if books fit for the difficult letters (I and O) I'm putting them in there first. Given the volume of reading that happened last round, I'm confident the gaps will all end up filled.

message 676: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Nothing really memorable read during round 1, no book over three stars. But then my average rating of all the books I read during the year is only a bit over 2, most books I read are just in the "read and forget" -category, LOL. And I give one star also fairly often, if I don't like the book (or the editing is unexcusably floppy).

I think filling the most difficult letters first is a good idea.

Same! I already want to reread some of the earlier books in the series. I sometimes think I should take more time with some series so I can savor it longer, but that rarely happens.

And I'm glad this is getting you out of your slump!

I will have the read The Bastille Spy as I LOVED the Scarlet Pimpernell. Was recently thinking of how I want to re-read it so may give this a shot instead.

In terms of a Round 1 favorite, I basically read one series throughout and all the books were really good. So if you like paranormal romance, I highly recommend the Psy-Changeling series (though I'm sure I've mentioned so already lol)

Your rating is definitely harsher than mine! I used to give most things a 3, with the occasional 4*, but there are more 4* creeping in now. Some things need a 2, but v rarely do my ratings slip to a 1* - it's got to be basically unreadable for that.

message 680: by Camilla (last edited Jun 28, 2020 01:29PM) (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Sophie wrote: "Your rating is definitely harsher than mine!"

I just use the GR wording for the star ratings, I think that's easier than developing my own wording/interpretation for the number of stars. If I don't like a book, then I don't like it and it gets one star, no matter what kind of classic or hyped book it is.

message 681: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments And I quite often end up reading fairly bad books just to fit them into a challenge task, so that brings my overall rating down compared to the situation where I would read only books that I really wanted to read.

message 682: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Hoping to finish my first round 2 book tonight, if not, I'll definitely finish tomorow.
My favourite from round 1 was The Beekeeper Of Aleppo.

Same for me!!! I've been in a reading slump for a while. I keep buying books that look completely interesting on Amazon or Better World Books (or in the store when I was able to go) and then I get home and turn the darn television on! Not anymore!!!

My favorite of the first round was Untamed by Glennon Doyle. I've been working on myself recently since I'm going through a separation (nothing negative, just done) and it was such a long relationship that I've been working to find myself. Her book was just inspirational in that journey!

message 686: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I would have to say that Bert Kreischler's Life of the Party was my favorite book from round because it was read by the author and very funny. If you haven't seen his standup, it's pretty funny.

I am off to a slow start this round. I will probably not get as many done as the first round. My husband was out of town for 8 days last round so I got a ton more reading done. I updated the spreadsheet with what I'm currently working on.

message 687: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Here's where the romance fan in me comes out but my favorite book from Round 1 was Guarding a Notorious Lady by Olivia Parker.

I'm happy to hear you found Untamed to be inspirational. Moving on from a long relationship is always tough, but it's good you are focusing on yourself <3

Mary - I wouldn't count village as a building word, sorry. An, and etc all count towards number of words.

Enjoying the wide range of recs from the last round.

Don't worry if you are reading less this round! It should balance over the challenge and some of you read way over the number you signed up for last round.

No, I wouldn't count a village as a building.

And I'm almost positive you can count an, and, in etc as words in the title, but am second guessing myself for some reason so will wait for Sophie to chime in before asking the cpt's group.

Looks like we timed that string of messages well...

Finished a long day at work and looking forward to getting stuck into my book this evening.

message 692: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments No worries on that. It'll work for other tasks.

Sorry about the non-fiction book I just added only working for 1 letter.

Imke - I'm just asking a GR librarian to add the page number to the GR page for Healing of the Wolf then it'll be moved over to the official sheet.

Samantha - could you confirm that you listened to the audio of The Death of Mrs. Westaway please?

Everything else is on the official sheet

That's not a problem at all. Most things work in multiple places so as long as it works in one spot, we can make it work!

Rosina | 1800 comments Hi everyone
Back from our camping trip.
I updated the spreadsheet with the books I finished.

My favorite from Round 1 was a surprise to me
Assassin's Creed: Renaissance I listened to the audio and so enjoyed it. Will definitely continue with the audio of the series.

I also really enjoyed Along Came a Spider but was so disappointed in the movie....not at all like the book...
