Nicole P | 1834 comments Last day of work for me 🥳 Just have two meetings, which I hope are short, and then I am ffffrrrrreeeeeee!!

I will have my books done by tomorrow and will definitely have time for a few more. I'll read shorter books to help out for Spell Out 9.

Practicality wise it should be ok with young kids - I've a friend who is regularly in her family motorhome and her kids are 1 and almost 3. You get lots of different layouts so it's a case of working out which works best for your needs

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I finished In Vino this morning. I would have finished last night but my profile picture decided she had been neglected by mommy that day. It's hard to read in bed with 60lbs of bulloxer (boxer+ unknown bully mix) laying on you and her head in your face.

She did let me read this morning while on my lap on the couch. I normally listen to an audio book while doing some housework in the morning. It was hard to get off the couch and go to work today which is why I don't sit down in the morning.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Remember that Morris Dancing book I found? I checked out the first book in the series. Works for Celebration. If I don't hate it, I'll check out the Morris Dancing one, it's book 2. Sometimes I miss when I would read series out of order with no issue. Now it's a compulsion to read them in order.

message 806: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 507 comments Hey just an FYI - I pre-updated the spreadsheet for finishing HP because I'm going to be without access to GR on the desktop this weekend and the spreadsheet can be a pain to update. I will finish it today since I have a 3h plane ride to LA (fully stocked with masks and gloves, so fingers crossed for no covid!) to see my dad.

message 807: by Nicole (new)

Nicole P | 1834 comments @Sophie @Victoria Just took a look at our team spreadsheet and one of the books I read for spell out #4 isn't calculating the points for some reason?

message 808: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Does that mean we need to finish books today? Or can someone else do the last minute updating? If you need a volunteer, I can do that. I just need editing access if that’s required.

message 809: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Victoria and I are fine for you to wait until tomorrow to finish and update!

I'll look at the SS and work out the points later. Some things have been v glitchy.

Nicole - Yay for last day of work! I hope you have good plans for your freedom. Anything you can read is great (and you certainly bump our reading numbers).

Vikki - thanks! Number 2 is due in November and Number 1 will be 3 by then. Will look into hiring one to go exploring.

Mary - oh dear! Surely you know not to neglect the fur children. Glad she gave you a chance this morning.

I'm the same about reading in order. Used to not be bothered, now it's a big issue.

Samantha - Have a lovely trip and stay safe. If you can manage to turn it to read on your phone later that would be fab.

SS issue fixed. For some reason the formula didn't make it as far down the word as G. I thought I'd fixed them all but obviously missed one...

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Darn, the August adult BOM is also one that I have already read.

I need a new ebook to start but at this point it will be for celebration.

Not a huge fan of Happy Trail so far. I don't dislike it enough to drop it but I probably won't read more of the series. It's billed as a romance but I'm on chapter six and they haven't even met yet. She's still hiking in New England and he's in Georgia. So unless there's a big time jump, I'm wondering if the couple will ever spend anytime together. That's not a romance novel to me. Oh well.

message 813: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I've finished Nattsångaren for spellout 7

message 814: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments It always amazes me the weird ways books get shelved. I just pulled up the lavender shelf out of curiosity and found this on it:

Burning Up (Smoke Jumpers, #1) by Anne Marsh

It's not the cover color. Not the main character's name. Very curious. Maybe I'll figure it out if I read it.

message 815: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
That's a nuisance Mary. Hope it improves soon and they actually meet - Georgia and New England are a v long way apart for a romance to develop!

People and how they shelve things baffles me to. The variety of weird and wonderful things that people have as tags is pretty incredible. But then I tend to be pretty minimalist with my tags...

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Hmm the I and O might also come in helpful for this week as well. Will depend on how well everyone does at finishing what's on the list! Don't stress about finishing if it's going to be a struggle, we'll use it either way.

message 819: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'll continue progress. It's not bad, it just seems odd to me that it's a romance and after 8 chapters now, they just met. Maybe it will pick up now.

message 820: by Imke (new)

message 821: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 507 comments I'd say we are pretty amazing reading machines ourselves! :) Just finished HP and it should be shelved correctly on GR. Let me know if it's not since I did it though the phone.

What a weird book for a lavender tag..!

message 822: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
I can't believe how much everyone is reading! The number of people who are far outstripping their expected reading is fantastic.

HP is in the right place so will move that over to the official sheet tomorrow - I should have been in bed a while ago!

message 823: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments It’s all the things still closed and limited options to go anywhere. We used to go dancing every Friday night. Now no place is having live bands anymore. The business meetings at the lodge are our big night out.

message 824: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Strangely I don't think my reading has increased much during lockdown - I'm not sure what I've been doing with myself.

But I need the virus to end as my work contract ends in a few months and was planning a gap year to travel.

message 825: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Hopefully will finish both books I still have on week 2 SS tomorrow. I've a 2.5 hour boat trip so I'm sure I will. Less than 50 pages left in The Spanish Promise & I'm making good progress with Outside Looking In, going to read more of it tonight

Quick update on today's progress so far.

Spell out 8 is waiting on:
L - Tonya Last ever after
D - Cassie Goldfinch

There are other things that can move into these spaces.

Anything else that's finished will be used in spell out. We've got options to cover the 3 difficult letters. What goes where will probably be decided by who manages to finish what.

message 830: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Limited options out probably do make a difference to a lot of people. For me I'm possibly reading less as I'm working a bit more.

Fingers crossed your travelling becomes possible Victoria. Any idea where you are hoping to go?

Hope reading for round 3 is starting well.

message 831: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Yes, I've started several of the round 3 books already and none of them seems to be a total pain to read, lol!

message 832: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments I will finish Outside Looking In before deadline today - will update as soon as possible

message 833: by Nicole (new)

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments I'm reading the YA BOM this month - is there any special way that needs to be noted on the spreadsheet/s?

message 838: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I won't finish anything else for round 2. I updated Happy Trail this morning and you probably already saw that. I just didn't have time to come on and post here. People keep making me work at work today. Don't they know it's Friday?

message 839: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Well done everyone! And thanks for all the completions today, you've been amazing.

Nicole - enjoy your dinner out! Eating out feels like an alien concept right now.

For the BOM, there is a tab on our team SS. If you can enter the details there and put links to 3 comments from the discussion, that all we need.

message 840: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We're going to attempt to go eat inside a local restaurant tonight.

message 841: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments @ Vikki - hope you had a great boat trip!

@ Sophie - I'd love to do some outdoors stuff, like thru-hiking the Appalacian Trail, but it goes through a lot of small towns that aren't prepped for covid so they currently aren't allowing thru-hikers, but hopefully come April (when the season starts) I can do it or something similar. But there are a lot of other hikes and bike rides around the world I'd like to do.

And I see people are braving restruants! I might check out a pub tommorrow for the first time since lockdown

message 842: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments We are mostly up to date with the SS, just need Nicole to add Pinch Me to her shelf

and I think Outside Look In and One Potion in the Grave (I think those are still being read).

I agree!

I sing in a choir and we've had virtual practices - they stream the practice online and everyone are in their own homes singing along. Definitely not the same thing.

I'm sure there will be something by the autumn - might take you a bit further off the beaten track to explore though.

Choirs in your living room must be an odd experience. Just not the same as actually being together. Similarly dancing in your living room is good, but live bands and other people add a lot to the experience.

We went to a park for one of the first times in ages today. Joe was v excited by it all, but had a meltdown that 'I don't like people' when another child came anywhere near him and the thing he was playing on. Social distancing might have gone too far.

Round 2 checked in! In an hour you are able to start finishing things again for round 3.

We're 2nd on the leaderboard which is awesome! 300 point gap to the team in 1st which is almost all BOM points. The next team are 400 back. (I'm relying on no big updating happening by other teams in the next hour...)

We got 8 spell outs completed and were 4 letters off finishing spell out 9! They only give us 9 spell outs on the SS so would have had to ask for more with only a few more books.
