Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

I did start Lost Carousel of Provence yesterday and already have a good dent in that. Case of the Dotty Dowager is going a little slow. It's kind of boring.

Sophie/Victoria: I finished Aina on Toivoa, but can't mark it as done on the SS, as for some reason I can see only Tonya's books there (using the SS with my phone). Could you mark it as done, date 19 July. I'm also not sure which characters/letters are showing on the SS.

That's fixed now. Someone had set a filter to Tonya which I've removed for now.

Imke - That's great, whenever you get them done is good - can always count them for next round.

Mary - hope you enjoyed the beach. Fingers crossed the surgery goes well. Factor 70 and still burning is v annoying - I end up with factor 50 and shade, with the risk it happens sometimes. Glad Lost Carousel is enjoyable, even if the Dotty Dowager is proving slower going.

Tonya - Yay! We like getting people back into the reading groove!

I'm off this week and next week so hopefully will be round a bit more and able to read more! 75% of the way through Dear Martin so that should be done for BOM points by Friday if nothing else...

I am reading Vengeful and should probably get that completed before the end of the cut off for this week.

Starting an audio book today but we'll see how it goes! So tentatively I should have 1 - 2 more books read for this round.

I was trying to avoid screens this past weekend as had a never ending headache (I blame shift work) but on the plus side audio books are still great for me :) In fact, I finally started The Sun Down Motel and am loving it! BOMs aren't always a hit for me, but this definitely is a win (so far).

Wonderful Samantha! I hope they're good.

Victoria - fingers crossed the headache clears v soon.

I've enjoyed both BOMs this month which was a surprise as I vary with how much I like them too.

Sophie/Victoria,

I'm having to abandon In the Heart of Texas... I'm not feeling it, which is sad because it takes place in my hometown! I'm going to try to update the spreadsheet now, but I'm on my phone and may not be successful. If that happens, I will do it tomorrow when I'm on the computer for work!

The Night Circus is still happening and will be done before Friday.

I think I'm moving on to Well Met but will decide tomorrow.

@Sophie @Victoria, please can you take a look at the SS. It's filtered to show Tonya's books and I have no idea how to undo that and don't want to do anything in case I mess things up 🙈 Thanks!

So I used my mental health day off from work yesterday to finish some books. So Mum's the Word, Dotty Dowager and Lost Carousel are finished.

Tonya - Sorry you aren't feeling it! I'll take it off the SS completely. Hope the other books are better.

I did similar yesterday and finished Dear Martin, Boys of Brayshaw High and This Explains Everything. Fingers crossed I'll get the 3 books I've currently got on the go done by the end of the week.

I'll be adding a non-fiction book that finally came up for me. It only works for B. Sorry. (also K and S so if those pop up in next week's word, I might save it for that)

I hope I didn't mess you up. I just changed the task for Lost carousel. I decided to save the set in 2 timelines for something else and switched it to set in Mainland Europe. It's set in France and I mostly end up reading stuff set in the British Aisles. Whereas I seem to find quit a bit set in 2 different time lines.

BTW: How are we set for tags?

I'll be reading Murder at an Irish Wedding and Burning up next. Then I'll see what the next word is and make my decision about that Non-fiction book.

We're waiting on 3 tags (one being Burning Up) so I'm hopefully we'll get them all.

OK so we have books planned for the max? I could try to get another Juliette Blackwell set in France book from the library and put it ahead of that non-fiction book if needed. Or see if the next flower shop mystery is also tagged flowers. I still have 5 more Hoopla Borrows for July left.

We've got 4 books on the go for 3 slots at the moment. I've got 4hrs of an audio left for mine, Vikki was optimistic about Reflections and Camilla has hers on the go too!

I specifically checked to make sure that the spreadsheet was unfiltered when I got out of it early this morning - I think Google Sheets is out to get me! I have made a list of my things on the SS so it shouldn't be an issue again.

I will aim to read books that are 500+ pages. Becoming a tad bit difficult to match tasks to books for me 🤪 🙈

No worries Tonya, it sometimes does awkward things.

Nicole - the amount you read I'm not worried about the tasks points! I'd rather you read the 50 pages that make up the points which I suspect is quicker for you than searching through the tasks.

I finished my France book this morning, just marked it as done on the SS. Will finish the two books that I've planned and can read a short one on Friday, if we need a specific letter, otherwise I'll leave the other books I'm currently reading for next round.

Given that we don't get more points for more completed spell outs, I'd rather you read something you enjoy rather than worrying about finishing something short to fill a gap.

I had to give my Calamity jane back to the library. Wait listed for it again.

I was able to get Astrophysics for People in a Hurry from the library on Audio so I will be able to finish that one after all.

@Sophie @Victoria I just checked our official SS and one of the books I read points value is incorrect. Deep Fathom was 480 pgs and the points are coming up as 38?

Given that we have the same tags next round as this, I'm going to pause on The Last Emperox now and finish it over the weekend so that it'll count for next round instead. That leaves us with 3 books currently underway for tags. If anyone else wants to do the same please shout and with co-ordination we can be a fair way through the next tag list with minimal effort.

I've finished Vänd om och var stilla and it will probably be my last book for round 3.

I'll be traveling all day tomorrow and probably most of Friday so if I get any reading done I will make sure to finish it after the next round starts :)

Did we get exactly the same tags for round 4 as round 3?

I might return that non-fiction book and get in line for it again. It's not like I waited months for it and don't have other stuff to read in the meantime. It's just a book that looked interesting when I came across it.

Does this cover work for purple cover? Tineye names it violet.

I'm thinking dust jackets. I know that you can get the middle piece at craft stores, etc. And put it all on a cork frame.

I'm assuming we're not missing any letters needed to make sure we only have one partial word left dangling for round 3?

One of my planned books for round 4 ended up being tagged with battle. Glad I took the time to look for that.

We've got RATN left of our 7th spell out and a couple of letters placed in our 8th. With shuffling any gaps that are left in higher up words can definitely be filled. Thanks for checking!

I'm proud of myself. I managed to finish my two books today, including BOM questions, with no sleep and in time before my morning departure for Wales! I, of course, haven't packed for Wales, but that's a problem for tomorrow morning.

Packing always happens at the last minute in my experience. Sure you'll manage to throw what you need in a bag.
