I will look at the BOMs for June and see if I can get some points that way! I wasn't interested in the Adult BOM for July at all, and August is still a question mark for me.

Thanks for keeping us straight!

With that update we are now 200 points up on Orient Express which is incredible! Well done everyone.
Watership Down are on 770 points this round compared to our 1487 so that's looking promising as well - so long as the individual members don't do a last minute update similar to the team...

Lots of Cs and the other letters is great.

Looking at what we have planned, the letters we could do with a couple more of are Y and I. Once we get to 10 spell outs possible with the books that cover those letters, I'll start concentrating on filling in the gaps further up, but so far those are largely taking care of themselves!

message 1104: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1800 comments I just finished a shortie for another challenge that I could slot in here.
I am hoping to get some reading done this weekend. I am taking a long weekend from Thursday to Monday in the mountains. Not sure of internet mobile.
Will look at the BOM but I have a bag of books from the library to read...one I plan on is Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier ...I am also working on getting outlander finished...

message 1105: by Nicole (new)

Nicole P | 1834 comments I'll be reading the BOM that starts on Saturday. The previous ones didn't appeal to me but will take a look at them again.

I'm also trying to read 500+ page books that match up with the tasks. Thankfully my boyfriend is helping me source books. He keeps telling me 5 points will mean the difference between 1st and 2nd place 😂 He is invested in this!

I'll also try for more I's.

Anything over 160p I'm happy to see on the sheet - every page counts! Have a fab time in the mountains. Thanks for letting us know that signal might be limited - I won't worry if we don't hear from/see any updates until after the weekend.

Love that your boyfriend is helping to source books! My husband looks at me like I'm daft if I get too into any of these challenges.

I've just got The Jetsetters on audio via scribd which is the only BOM I haven't done so far. Hopefully I'll get to it before the end of the challenge.

Nicole P | 1834 comments He has been amazing! And very understanding. He has also given up on me watching Netflix shows 😂 I start watching and then next thing I know I'm reading.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I've been mainly reading according to what library holds come up and what's available. I'm not a huge fan of door stoppers. I do like the occasional Stephen King book but I think I've read all his door stoppers. Also they are pretty much always wait listed. He's hubby's favorite author and I like him enough read one or two a year.

The 2 adult BOM books we had are right up ally but I've already both of them. One just recently too. In fact it's lost somewhere in my house since I couldn't return it to the library during the shut down. I'm hoping it turns up before I run out of renewal options.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments All the walking has upped my audio book time lately, especially yesterday morning when a smoke detector started blipping at 4 and by the time we figured out which one it was, I was wide away. The downside it that I've been falling asleep in the evening before getting much ebook reading done. So that's the delay in finishing Magic Rises. I was unconscious just minutes after getting into bed last night. Even the dog has been tuckered out. She usually lays on me while I read and I pet her. Last night she actually moved away from me so could sleep.

But I'm up to almost an hour of walking in the morning. So the stamina is getting better. Maybe once the humidity is better I can work on upping my pace.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
We've got a Netflix subscription and the only things I've seen on it recently are Paw Patrol and Dinosaur Train... Would like to get back into adult tv but reading takes preference atm.

I'd say the snake is visible under the cat's paw so can be used.

Good luck finding the book! I suspect lots of people are in the same boat. Reading whatever is available is a good strategy, especially if you don't hugely like door stoppers (I like them more now I can read them on kindle or my phone!).

Urgh 4am is too early. The last couple of nights a neighbour's car alarm has been going off at 3am... Need more sleep than that. Well done on upping the stamina with walking! More audio time is good, even if ebook is suffering as a result.

round 4

Orient Express: 1557 (16621)
Us: 1947 (16325)
Rabbits: 1260 (16066)

We've got enough Y and V planned for 10 spell outs for now. If we were to read 160 books in the round (our initial target) we'd manage 8 spell outs. Still looking for 6 I to finish the tricky letters (4 are planned but not yet started so I haven't put them in the spell out possibilities yet).

Samantha | 507 comments I'm almost done with Akata Witch. It's tagged as Children's - Middle Grade (which I didn't know when I picked up the book) but I'm listening to it on audio and it is ~8hrs so I think we're okay.

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I am reading another book in the series with main character Lily ivory - I can listen to at least one more

message 1120: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Do we have another week with this word? Or do we get our new word Friday? Sorry I'm feeling brain dead.

message 1121: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Sophie, in your update you have my book Neliöjuuri as not completed and to be used for an E, but it has been completed and has been used for a T in the third word.

message 1122: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Never mind, figured it out. I can read the rest of the Lily Ivory books

message 1123: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Sophie wrote: "If we were to read 160 books in the round (our initial target)."

I think the initial number of 160 is meant for a whole month, not for two weeks. The number for a round would be half of that, right?

message 1124: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments A Magical Match (A Witchcraft Mystery #9) by Juliet Blackwell would this be considered a coffee table?

message 1125: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Sophie/Victoria: for some reason the read books for this round aren't showing on the official SS on the member info page. There's probably something wrong with some link.

message 1126: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Hmm, there's also something odd about the member page in at least one previous round. In round 2 I read 13 books, which are all showing correctly in the round 2 page, but on the member info page I'm recorded as having read only 12 books in round 2. Any idea why this is happening?

message 1127: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Anything with a children's mpg needs checking regardless of page number.

We've got another week with this word before the next one comes.

I can only blame baby brain for not moving that from the update (and saying it was 160 books in 2 weeks not a month).

Jenn - I would say yes to that being a coffee table.

The official ss member info page is a mess. None of the links work properly without a lot of work, so I've been using our sheets page instead to keep an eye on things. I'll try to sort out whatever has gone weird this evening when I'm on my computer, but there will probably still be issues when we start round 5.

message 1128: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments LOL about the baby brain, Sophie! I just wish we could read that much, but my personal limit is max one book per day.

For the column with the read books for the round, the formula is only counting to row 128 so when we move past that, those extra rows are not included (so one of Camilla's books isn't being counted because it is on row 132).

message 1130: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Well, that was clever, MH! And should be easy to correct. It has affected only three books in round 2, none in the other rounds (assuming the same counting for all rounds).

message 1131: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
I think I noticed the problem when we got to round 3 so changed the formula but didn't go back to round 2. Thanks for finding that MH!

One book a day is still a lot! Before joining these challenges I thought I read a lot, but I've met some people who manage an incredible amount.

message 1132: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
The reason it didn't work was because I had to get another spell out added in round 2! I've just updated the round 4 formula so it should work now

message 1136: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I loved the Lily Ivory books. I can probably come up with another I as well. My arm can always be twisted to read some Ilona Andrews as long a the library cooperates. Also I get 10 new Hoopla borrows tomorrow and I'm sure they'll have something. But that short cozy I added yesterday has an I character. I'll probably finish it today. I keep forgetting my Kindle at home and Magic Rises has expired so I can't access it on my phone.

message 1137: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments @ MH - ooh thanks for the SS help! I've been so bad at helping Sophie with the SS since I annoyingly can't access it access it at work (not that I'm great at it anyway).

@ Mary - I'm also always ready to read some Ilona Andrews. I'm willing to sacrifice myself for an extra I lol
Have you been reading the new Julie story on their blog?

Victoria | 1132 comments Mary C wrote: "All the walking has upped my audio book time lately, especially yesterday morning when a smoke detector started blipping at 4 and by the time we figured out which one it was, I was wide away. The d..."

yay for walking and audiobooks! I swear audiobooks are the only reason I get any reading done as I can listen while I go for walks and runs. I also sit at work for 12hrs so I try to walk as much as possible to make up for it.

message 1139: by Mary X (last edited Jul 30, 2020 10:06AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I usually wait until the blog stuff is compiled into book format.

So apparently my library is no longer getting the Kate Daniels books in audio. Bummer. But the Magic Breaks was available for check out in ebook along with Iron and Magic. I'll probably add them both and then just move one or to the next round if needed.

message 1140: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Thanks all for finding Is!

I can't get hold of the Kate Daniels books from my library, on audible or on scribd. Since I'm trying v hard to avoid spending money on individual books, rather than subscriptions, I've hit a stuck point with the series and I'm not sure it's worth £8 a book to carry on...

Victoria - don't worry about the SS - it's making me learn how they work which is bound to be useful sometime.

I feel like both teams are lulling me into a false sense of security 😂 But well done us!

Won't be reading much today. It's a friend's birthday and we are off to brunch 💃🏼 🥂 And I'm actually going to blow dry and style my hair properly for the first time in 4 months 😱

message 1144: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Enjoy your brunch, Nicole! I'll be meeting some old friends tomorrow, we started our studies back in 1987 (yikes!) in the same place and have kept contact since then. One of us now lives in Brussels, so we all get together in the summer when she's visiting Finland.

Nicole - I know what you mean! Keep expecting a sudden burst of points from them both.
Have a fabulous time getting dressed and going out for brunch.

Camilla - sounds like a lovely way to spend the day. Enjoy the time to catch up.

We're going to my dad's for his birthday today and a swim (33degrees c so 91f here). Reading will be limited but hopefully will make up for it this evening.
