I know what you mean Mary! I should get mine cut soon and have been meaning to call for a couple of weeks (if not longer), still haven't though.

I'd say yes to green enough, MH

Victoria | 1132 comments @ Nicole - Enjoy your brunch! I wore a dress today for the first time this year and it was strange lol

@ Camilla - That sounds wonderful! I'm so terrible at keeping in touch with people and that sounds like such a great way to keep in touch with old friends.

message 1155: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ugh. This year. Our very good friend Wendy passed away today. We couldn’t even go see her at the hospital to say goodbye. Her health has been failing the years but it’s still unexpected. With everything going on, I don’t know if there can even be a funeral for her.

message 1156: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments I'm so sorry, Mary. You had known her for a long time?

message 1157: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Oh Mary, I'm so sorry. I hope you find a way of getting together to remember her.

message 1158: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I've only known her for about 4 years but she was one of my husband's best friends. Very sweet lady. We took a long weekend trip to the beach every year with her and her husband. I'm sure we'll do some sort of memorial gathering for her at the lodge. She was only 63. She had a myriad of medical problems and she just couldn't fight them anymore.

message 1159: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments It was quiet for my alone at the office day yesterday. So I was able to listen to most of Shock Wave. Finished it this morning driving to meet a friend to kayak. She forgot her paddle so I ended up coming home and doing housework instead.

message 1160: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
You can get v close to good people fast! Shame how some people end up with a lot of conditions relatively young. Sending virtual hugs your way.

It's a shame your friend didn't remember her paddle, sounds like you could have done with a kayak instead of housework.

thank you

I really appreciate all the reading and checking you have all been doing throughout this challenge and the way you have been stepping in to help each other.

So many of you have really stepped up from your original reading goals in ways I was not expecting and have put us in a really strong position! I'm so happy to be a part of this team, so thanks again.

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments Greetings from Ocean City and the beach air, Hobbits!!! I hope you all are doing well - Mary, you are in my thoughts through this time of loss.

I am working solely on relaxing and recuperating while I'm here so that means lots of reading and listening to audio books. I am about to update the spreadsheet now - I have also picked up two of the BOMs to participate in.

All my best!

message 1170: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Sorry for your loss Mary, it's never easy to lose someone you care about. But it seems even worse at the moment with everything going on.

I'd a weekend at the Co Down coast in our motorhome which was nice, although the weather was so unpredictable. Torrential rain on Saturday evening/night for a while.

I've 2 book on the go at the moment and will have them both finished for the deadline

message 1171: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I spent my weekend in the car driving various people around. Got quite a bit of audio book time on the way to get or the way from chauffeuring these various people. My best friend had a heart episode and ended up in the hospital. It wasn't a heart attack so that was a big relief. But I went there a couple of times and then had to get her to her car keys in one place and her car in another. Hubby drowned his sorrow a bit at the lodge and I had to go get him and then take him back the next day for his car. My daughter's boyfriends mother's car died and I took them to the store to get some groceries. I need one of those Mom's Taxi signs. I had my Kindle with me and read Conjure Women while waiting on various people and listened to If You See Her when alone in the car. So I finished that.

And now we are in the path of hurricane Isaias. But we're about an hour from the coast so we don't usually get hit too bad with the wind and just get rain. Hopefully it will turn back out to sea. Although we really do need some rain.

message 1172: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Really like Conjure Women. I've been sneak reading on my phone while at work. It's quiet today. Maybe I can finish it tonight.

Camilla | 1885 comments Oh, and the tags are Delusion, Liquor, Hallucinogenic, Trippy, and Crazy

message 1175: by Mary X (last edited Aug 03, 2020 10:24AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Oh darn. I just opted not to check out that non-fiction book again. It would have worked for B and K. Oh well.

I just saw your message about the task for If you see her, I'll pick one for it now and it to the tracking sheet. I don't see one added for it on either spreadsheet.

eta: I used it for task 143: four words in title. I'll check my other books to make sure they have tasks.

message 1176: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I could swap out Magic Breaks and Iron and Magic for books that are a definite E or T. It doesn't look like you have worked them into any potential spellings yet. I added them because I thought we needed I's. They both work for Backpacking.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hmm. ScribD has the later Kate Daniels books in audio. I wonder if I can do a 30 day free trial if I already did one a few years ago.

eta: it did! I used my work email and new last name this time.

Samantha - thank you! Will add that to the official SS now.

Vikki - glad you had a good weekend, even if the weather didn't quite play ball.

Mary - You and your friends/family aren't having much luck at the moment! Hope the hurricane cuts you some slack and turns away and that your best friend makes a speedy and full recovery. Glad that Scribd has worked for you.
Holding on Magic Breaks and Iron and Magic would be great.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Wow ScribD has really changed since I tried it a few years ago. It comes with a Pandora and Curiosity Stream subscription. I might keep it after the free trial. Lots of magazines too.

message 1185: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments I know I will finish the four books that I have as reading on the round 4 SS, but not more. Will start planning for the final round.

message 1186: by Camilla (new)

message 1187: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments As much as I've enjoyed this challenge and it finally caught me up on my goal for the year, I'm glad there's only one round left.

message 1188: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments @Vikki - hope you still enjoyed your weekend away despite the rain!

@Mary - I'm so sorry for your loss and hope you stay safe from the hurricane

I'm also glad there is only one round left. I love the challenge but have had it confirmed that I will be moving back to the US in Sep/Oct. I've been really busy lately sorting things out as was hoping to be here through the end of the year and imagine things will become increasingly chaotic as my time in the UK comes to a close.

message 1189: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Starting Vinyards of Provence today. Hubby is working the late shift tonight so I'll probably get most of it done. Unless the power goes out. If that happens, I'll pick up a print book that works for something and read by flashlight. But we rarely lose power. I'm on the same grid as the police and fire department which is pretty handy.

message 1190: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments I've a few tagged books lined up for Round 5 and added to SS. Was starting to lose hope until I looked for the crazy tag.

message 1191: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments The liquor tag had a lot of books that looked interesting to me but it's mostly non-fiction. I also had better luck with the crazy tag.

message 1192: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Can I count this as a T book or do I have to use the first word after The?

The Only Pirate at the Party

message 1193: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Jenn wrote: "Can I count this as a T book or do I have to use the first word after The?

The Only Pirate at the Party"

Yep, you can use it for T!

message 1194: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments You all have been great at finding tags! I always seem to find them towards the end of a round when they are of no use 😅

message 1195: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I just bring up the shelf most likely to have a decent selection and quickly scroll to see if I have any shelved. I got lucky with crazy and found 2 of my wish list books in the first 2 pages and my library had both.

message 1196: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments My daughter just texted me that our power is going on an off. My employer who lives in town says his power is out at home. My other employer, aka Mom left early too. Of course the rest of us have to stay. Kind of annoyed about that. But it's not too bad here yet. Most likely someone hit a pole or transformer.

Charging my phone before I leave work.

Annoyed at myself for not having a Kindle charger at the office anymore. Oh well. If I have to I'll read a print book by candle light.

message 1197: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
I've enjoyed this challenge and it's certainly kept my reading going when I think it might have slipped otherwise.

Victoria - wow that's soon to get everything sorted out to move to the US. Hope it isn't too chaotic and you get to do some travelling before too long.

I had a feeling that most of our tags would be crazy! Will have a look at the list later and see if there's anything that catches my eye.

Mary - that's a pain about the power. Hopefully it'll come back on fully by the time you are home. Tricky to know where to keep kindle chargers! I often have a usb battery in my bag with a couple of cables for my phone and kindle so that I'm never stuck without anything (so long as I remember to charge the battery...)

I'm not convinced by that as a summer scene. What do other people think?

If you haven't already used the coffee table task, it could go there.

message 1200: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Power was only out about an hour. But we are prepped for it to go out again. I'm charging my Paperwhite. That one is backlit so I can read in the dark. I need a new cord for my Fire. It will not recognize any of the Kindle cords or plugs. It will recognize and charge on a super short cord that came with some wireless earbuds. Which is odd.
