That's a great start. The spreadsheet is filling up nicely with loads of time before we start! Thanks for being so proactive everyone!

Yay for more reading time!

That's a real shame about the holiday. Fingers crossed travel is more possible in the autumn. Sounds like a great tradition to have

MH, I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but I'm going to double check in the captain's group

That's how it is usually done in NBRC challenges, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the rules so I figured we better make sure :)

Mods have confirmed it's a yes to default edition page counts for audio. If there's no physical edition it needs to be at least 5 hours long.

I forgot about Julia Quinn! This may be the perfect time to read her again.

I hope your side is okay! Definitely take it easy at the computer

And hopefully you'll make it to Cancun!

Victoria | 1132 comments Rosina wrote: "How do I find tags for a book?"

You can search on the genre page (links below) or if you have a specific book in mind you think would work you can go to the book page and to the right you'll see the top "Genres" and can search through the top shelves to see if it's listed.

Insects
Creepy
Racism
Wings
Twilight

Advanced method: You can also search a specific tag for a specific book by going to the top shelves and select the number of users who tagged any genre. This will take you to a page with the list of all the people who tagged it for that genre. You can then just change the word of the tag in the url to the tag you are searching for, for example:

For the book Heart of Obsidian 4 users tagged it as badass, if I select "4 users" it brings me to the page of the users who tagged it. I can then change badass in the url to racism and it will take me to any users who may have tagged it as such

https:// www. goodreads .com/shelf/users/15781026-heart-of-obsidian?shelf=badass

But I almost always get an error when doing this so may not be the best method.

Also, I suck at adding photo's or I would have provided screen shots for a better explanation.

Victoria | 1132 comments In case anyone is interested in the BOMs, they haven't assigned the Discussion Questions yet for June so still time to volunteer to write them - but only if you want to!

June BOMs

Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott starting 21 Jun, YA BOM thread

The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward starting 14 June, Adult BOM thread

Talia also posted this in the thread for anyone interested: "If you like audiobooks, the audiobook [Jetsetters] just became available on Scribd for me. I believe Scribd is doing a free month right now for new subscribers. Or here is a link that should give you a 60-day free trial: https://www.scribd.com/g/53o4vx "

And the winners for July are:

Dear Martin (Dear Martin, #1) by Nic Stone The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James

I personally have no interest in June's BOMs, but have both July's on-hold at my library so I'll volunteer for DQs if I get them in time.

June BOMs

Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott from the library so will get involved with that one (and it works for letters!).

I'll have a look for the July ones and hope the letters work!

Both of July's are available at my library so I'll probably try to read them both.

As Victoria said, no one else has to get involved with BOM unless they want to!

I had to choose the ones that aren't creepy, and also that can be reached in the car. I'd love to go to the real King's Cross Station (I've been to the one in Orlando) and other places like Europe that I've read about, but that'll have to wait.

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments maria helena wrote: "I had a good weekend but as always, it went by too fast. I feel like I need weekends to be 3 days instead of 2 :)"

I've always been a proponent of 4 day work weeks. I would consistently work 10-hour workdays for 3 days off (I'd want Wednesday and the weekend) for the most part. But right now, I'm working from home and so tired of being home that I could scream most days.

message 126: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments My weekend was pretty uneventful as I was/am working nights.

I do shift work so in theory I get 6 days off after working 3x 12hr days, followed by 3x nights, but I rarely get the full 6 days off. And the extra days off don't make up for the nights shifts.

message 127: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments My weekend was pretty uneventful. We got a little tipsy with my 22 year old daughter Friday night and played Cards Against Disney and got Indian takeout.

Yesterday I did 3 loads of laundry which gave to go up and down 2 flights of stairs. I cleaned my kitchen cabinet doors, all around the counters, behind canisters, appliances etc.., cleaned some baseboards and other similar stuff.

Today I did a bunch of weeding, planted an herb garden, picked strawberries at my mothers. Even transplanted a couple things.

No pain until I washed the window above my kitchen sink. Now I am in pain.

The real King's cross might be a disappointment! It's nothing like they've made it in the film. The studio just outside London where they filmed a lot of it is a great day out though!

I'm still heading out to work 2 days a week, but 5 days at home and in walking distance is beginning to drive me mad so I can't bear to think what 7 days a week of it would do to me.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Bleurgh that's a mess of shifts with a lot of long days/nights. Shifting your body clock backwards and forwards like that isn't easy at all.

message 133: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Agree that the real Kings Cross is disappointing....

@ Mary - I was not aware Cards Against Disney was a thing, and want it!

message 134: by Tonya Marie (new)

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments I'm going to have to jump on this Cards Against Disney thing as well - Oh Em Gee! Two of my favoritist things!!!

I have a friend who gets me out of the house at least once a day and a pupper that I have to walk so I'm getting some sunshine, but not much. I'm also at a disadvantage because my library is spread between 3 homes (Texas, New York, and DC) so I know that I have unread books that fit (tags, letters, tasks), and just don't remember where they all are!!!

message 135: by Tonya Marie (new)

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments So... about tasks.

Several are repeated - recommended books by someone on a different team and by someone on your team. Is that on purpose (20, 44, 99, 119, 120, 142, 155, 169, 188, 193, 200)?

Tasks 101 and 148 talk about reading books in a series. Is it all of those or one in that range?

Lastly, can one book represent more than one task? If there's a ladybug next to a woman knitting on the cover of a book whose title is 5 words long, does that count for one task or 49, 57, and 157?

Thanks!

message 136: by Tonya Marie (new)

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments One more clarification question @Sophie and @Victoria:

The rules say that only books read during the specified round can be used ("read date" is what counts, not the day you start). So, if I start a book on Thursday and of this week and don't finish until Saturday/Sunday, would it count (if qualifying for a tag, task, letter)?

Thanks a bunch!!!

message 137: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Only books started AFTER the challenge begins can count, so no can't start on Thursday. However, if you start a book during Round 1 and don't finish till after Round 2 starts you can use it for Round 2.

You can only use one book per task, even if it fits multiple tasks

And I don't have access to the SS/tasks at the moment so can't confirm about the repeated tasks, but I assume it's on purpose.

For the series tasks, if it says read #3 in a series it needs to be that specific book, but if it's read a book #11-20 in a series it can be any one book that falls under that range (again, can't see the tasks atm so I may not be answering the question correctly).

If that doesn't work you could always do CNTRL Find and then search the word and then it will come up on each page if it was tagged that way. A little more time consuming but less time consuming than looking through the list on each page.

message 141: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Welcome to the team! I imagine you've been very busy these last few months managing urgent care clinics!

So long as the books are started after 13th June (when the challenge starts) then we use them in the round you finish reading them. So please don't start something long this week to get a head start on it for points as we won't be able to use it.

Each book can only work for 1 task. The duplication of tasks is deliberate to get different teams talking to each other.

The books in a series task are just one in that range.

Hi Jenn! You're here in plenty of time so don't worry. We're all getting settled into the Hobbit Hole with an appropriate selection of meal choices.

As Victoria said, work must be mad at the moment with the number of changes at short notice (if it's anything like healthcare here).

We're both in the UK so answers to queries might take a bit of time due to timezones and sleep!

I actually write proper letters to penpals around the world. My fiance is neither a reader nor a writer so not really an opportunity to try love letters for something different. I have sent him some compliment slips - I got a book of them from Paperchase around Valentine's Day, so they're slips that say nice things or promise certain things, like cooking a favourite meal, a beach trip etc. Although I've just been using the ones saying nice things at the moment.

Happy Reading!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm hoping to update the spreadsheet some more this week. Waiting to see what library check outs I have left when this starts.

I just read Sundown Motel or I would so be in that BOM read. But I read it last month. Not a big YA fan but I'll look at the chosen book. I do read them once in a while.

This issue I am having with my arm is putting a damper on searching for books, letters and tasks.
