Camilla | 1885 comments Sophie/Victoria: there's an error in the member info sheet of Hobbit Hole. Books p/m is correct, but books p/w is the monthly number divided by two, when it should be divided by four. E.g. my monthly number of books is correctly 20, but the weekly number should of course not be 10 but 5.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
The number is more accurately no books per round so the percentages in the column 2 over are right. The sheet has been reused from TT where weekly totals were needed.

Thanks Mary C! I know what you mean, people tend to concentrate on the hard letters

Camilla | 1885 comments That makes sense, thank you for correcting the column label, Sophie!

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments For the tasks, should we include multiple tasks that the book will fit under or do we just need to include one?

message 356: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments In one of the books I'm reading there's a character named Aiden Van Zandt. Is that classified as V or Z?

Just one is plenty thanks!

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments I'm working on updating the spreadsheet @Sophie... I was on my phone last night. I also need to see what tags/tasks it fits.

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments question: is it any character or a main character?

message 360: by Tonya Marie (new)

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments another question: will the captains decide which letter to use a book for? I'm reading Untamed by Glennan Doyle, which applies to U and G. IDC which its used for, so...?

I know I've seen the answer to this somewhere in the group so am having a bit of a search, but not sure right this minute. Will keep a note in case we can use it for Z

Thanks Tonya - I know the limitations of the phone too well!

Any character that has a speaking part/reasonable role in the book.

Which letters things get used for will depend a bit on how many books for each letter we have available (numbers in brackets on the ss). Please put them all down as we may end up shuffling things later to check we have as many completed sets of pub quizzing as possible.

Van/Von authors

It depends how the library would classify the author... Hopefully Natasha will pop in soon and give us a helping hand with that!

I think it varies depending on what the first capitalised bit is - i.e. von Bergen would be B, but Van Zandt would be V.

Good deal! I was hoping that this would be the case (in all instances). I have a couple with several options, just didn't want to be in charge of choosing. And one that I'm really wanting to read has a secondary character with a 'P' name. I'm so glad this started, I haven't been this excited to read since the first of the last full Shadowhunters series was released!!!

Yay for excitement to read! That's definitely what we want to hear.

Hopefully most things people want to read will fit somewhere, might just mean some shuffling occasionally.

Haven't read any of the Shadowhunters books, but with that endorsement will add them to the list of things to search out.

I'm going to suggest chronological instead of release date. There's so many tidbits in The Infernal Devices trilogy that I wish I would have known when I read The Mortal instruments series. Additionally, Cassandra Clare has little spin offs and others to keep you in the world between release dates. :)

Oh that's good to know....I am planning to re read them this summer....I picked up Red Scrolls a few weeks back....
When the first 3 came out I read them and then got absorbed into something else....Magnus is my favorite character both in the books and the movie....haven't seen the series...

message 368: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments I read The Infernal Devices trilogy before starting The Mortal Instruments even though a lot of people seem to suggest the other way. It seemed to be more sensible to me to read chronologically

I love the movie and the series for what they are!

Those who haven't read/watched - don't expect the books to reflect in the movie or series... just appreciate them!

I liked being able to see the characters from The Infernal Devices and their growth/progression once they were in The Mortal Instruments. I'm also a HUGE fan of the audiobooks!!! I can't wait to start Chain of Gold.

I think Tonya read that book, so it's whichever task she wants to use for it since each player can only use one book per task.

So, Tonya, let me know which task you'd like to use it for (if you haven't already done so on the SS, haven't checked in today).

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I actually found a Morris Dancing book at my library. Not sure if I'll read it or not. It's book 2 of a series and I like to read series in order.

The Case of the Dotty Dowager (WISE Enquiries Agency #1) by Cathy Ace

The Case of the Missing Morris Dancer (WISE Enquiries Agency #2) by Cathy Ace

I'll delete this if we're trying to play more secretly.

Neither appear to work for Pub Quizzing from the description.

I had to look up what morris dancing was lol But awesome find and don't think we need to keep it a secret. And while it doesn't work for Pub Quizzing it may work for the next word :)

message 384: by Imke (new)

Imke (immie75) | 1644 comments Completed:
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
Which works for the racism tag and task#100 (GR choice award)
As for spell out it works for U (title) and B (character: Bessie or Boseman).
5 star read for me.

Still reading:
Grijze ogen (The Others, #4) by Anne Bishop by Anne Bishop it doesn't work for a tag, but does cover task#161 two word title
For spell out it works for G (title), B (Author).
Started:
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling Doesn't work for a tag, but does cover task#2 MPG Adventure. Works for U(character Umbridge), P (character Harry Potter) This series is usually a good letter source because there are so many characters.

Thanks for the tags Tonya, and noticing the gap Rosina.

Mary - no need to worry about secrecy! I suspect there will be SS searching if people want to find things like that out.

Natasha - no worries! whenever you get a chance to read is fab.

Any time you want to do a reread is good with me Samantha - lots of letters and page points!

Morris Dance away if you would like Mary, there are a lot of task options if you'd rather avoid it!

I know! 1st is exciting no matter how long it lasts. Finishing the first spell out would be great. And we are getting on well with the second.

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 221 comments @Sophie & Victoria - I updated the spreadsheet with the books I'm reading for this couple weeks challenge. I only have one with a tag but all have qualifying tasks associated. Please let me know if there are any questions!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Finished the Paragon Hotel. Works for racism tag. Using it for the set in hotel task.

Stayed up a bit late reading Guarding the Notorious Lady. I own the print book but downloaded the ebook from Hoopla so I can read it on my phone at work. Inconspicuously of course. I loved all 3 of Olivia Parker's historical romances but she seems to have stopped writing them. I'm trying to read more of the print books I own and grabbed this one because it works for 3 letters just from the cover and blurb. Turns out to work for a bunch of tasks. I'll have to decide which one is the hardest to find. I plan to finish it tonight.
