Hannah I am going to try and read 10 different countries this year. I'm going to focus on female authors and I'm not going to link them geographically due to limited availability (and starting in June!)

1/10 Nigeria
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie *****
My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite ****
The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie **** (mostly set in USA)

Mustapha Abdu-Aguye (mabduaguye) I'd suggest that you also consider "The Secret Life of Baba Segi's Wives" by Lola Shoneyin. I think it would be a good addition to your list above.

Hannah 2/10 Egypt
Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi *****

Firdaus is waiting in prison to die because she is a woman in a man's world; because she knows the truth of this world and is not afraid to speak it. She has killed but she is not a criminal. This is the powerful story of how she came to be there. The writing is fierce, insightful and intelligent. Nawal el Saadawi rips apart the patriarchy and lays bare it's ugly truths
