Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sandra, Tasha and myself will be reading The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd in February. We'll start right after the toppler, February 15. Feel free to join us!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Great! tho more the merrier!

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I have the book but I'm really not enthused about reading it for some reason. I'll keep an eye on this thread and if your comments intrigue me, perhaps I'll join in.

message 11: by Cherie (new) - added it

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I might join, if I pick up a copy of the book. The author is hit or miss with me, but the reviews for this one look good.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It seems the toppler will be February 7-14.

We could start reading The Invention of Wings for example on the 1st or on the 15th. Any preferences?

message 13: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments I can do both, but I would suggest to wait until Feb 15th when the craziness is done. But again, I can do it on Feb 1st if this works better for the rest of you.

Tasha I'm fine with either as well but I think it would be nice to relax with this one after the toppler.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Good thinking :) 15th sounds good.

Tasha great, sounds good. :)

message 17: by Dominique (new)

Dominique | 1126 comments The 15 is good for me too:)

Tasha yay! looks like we're all on board for the 15th~ :)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Are you all still up for this one? :)

message 20: by Tasha (last edited Feb 13, 2015 09:04AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tasha Sure! I just put the book on hold. There is 1 (!) copy avaliable at a nearby library so I should have it early next week.

message 21: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Sure, Peggy. I'll have the book until the 18th. I can't renew it since it is requested. So I plan to start reading it tomorrow after the toppler or on Sunday.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Awesome!

I bought my copy a while back. I have a book that I stopped reading before the toppler, so I want to finish that one first (hopefully tomorrow or Sunday), and start this one after.

Tasha I'll catch up as soon as I get it. :)

Esther (nyctale) | 5195 comments I am currently downloading the audio from my library site. It will be my next audiobook.

message 25: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Great! we are all sync.

message 26: by Berit (new) - added it

Berit | 641 comments I really want to read this book, but I have three books I need to read for various commitments before I can get to it. I will keep an ion your thoughts and hopefully eventually get to it.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, leave your thoughts here when you get to reading it Berit!

I'll start today :)

Tasha Looking forward to what you think, Peggy.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have read the first two chapters, one told by Handful and one by Sarah. I like the alternating viewpoints. I'm intrigued by Handful saying (view spoiler)

With regard to Sarah's chapter, and the whole book most likely, I hope (view spoiler).

message 30: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments I'm around page 50, and so far I like both characters, Handful and Sarah.

How do you think we should mark the spoilers? the chapters are not numbered and they are so many that it will be difficult to keep track of them.

Peggy, it seems we are reading the same edition, so we can use page numbers, but I'm not sure about Tasha and any other member who could join us.
I'm not really obsessive about spoilers (if it's not a mystery) buy I don't want to ruin anybody's reading. :)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Good question Sandra. The chapters are indeed a bit confusing. Mine has 466 pages, it's not the on GR says I'm reading, because the copy I actually have has no cover photo and I don't like that ;-)

Perhaps we can refer to the 6 different parts?

message 32: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments :) I do the same thing when the covers are too hybrid.

I think using the 6 parts make sense.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm still somewhere in part 1, and I'm really enjoying the book. I had high expectations, it's one of my favourite genres (historical fiction, and also the southern US setting), and I'm glad the first impression of the book is good :)

message 34: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Yes, my first impression was really good too. I'm liking it better than The Secret Life of Bees, that I liked it but don't loved it like most of the readers. I rated it 3 stars, so not bad. But I'm finding this one more mature.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've had The Secret Life of Bees on my TBR for a long time, but never read it.

I finished Part 1. I'm wondering (view spoiler)

message 36: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments I think this is one of the reasons. (view spoiler)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ah yes, that must definitely play a role too.

Tasha Glad you guys are enjoying it. :)

I'm still in, just waiting. I dropped the ball on getting ready for this while doing the toppler! Sorry!

message 39: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments No problem Tasha. We'll be here to discuss the book with you. :)

message 40: by Paakhi (new) - added it

Paakhi Srivastava (pankh) | 199 comments Just peeped in to say 'Hello' :)

I really wanted to read this one by Sue Monk Kidd, I enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees but was totally disappointed with The Mermaid Chair.

Hope you guys enjoy this one..i will definitely stop by this thread and read all the comments, hope I get motivated to buy it/read it soon.

message 41: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Just finished Part 1. I'm surprised how things changed! (view spoiler)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I thought that was surprising too Sandra. I found her mother's remark about (view spoiler)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've read about 2/3 of Part 2.

(view spoiler)

Tasha My book is available for pick up! I should be able to get it today. Will start tonight. :)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yay :)

I realized February has only 10 days left and I also have to read Life After Life for the monthly read and challenge, and it is over 500 pages. I started Life after Life too (it will be my ereader train book), to make sure I can finish it in time, so I'll be a bit slower on The Invention of Wings (which will be my paperback at home book) from now on.

message 46: by Tasha (last edited Feb 18, 2015 04:44AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tasha I know, Feb is mving fast. I dont think I'm going to be making my monthly read this time around. I have the book in eformat and I'm getting it real too but I have too many other reads going on! haha

message 47: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Slowing down this one is fine. Tasha is only now jumping in. I have The Time Machine to finish too. And I'm not going too fast with this one. I'm only a few pages into Part 2. So I think we don't need to pause it, but we can take this one easy.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Convenient that we all have the same time issues :)

message 49: by Sandra, Moderator (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sandra (sanlema) | 11269 comments Yeah, we readers are always under so much pressure! :)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I read the first two chapters of part 3.
