Abla I chose the book Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie because since it’s a murder mystery, I knew it would captivate me to want to find out who the murderer is before detective Poirot finds out. There is imagery everywhere, and the author makes it so easy for me to visualise every scene in detail, which helps me get to know the suspects before hand. It also intrigues me to see how the author will develop the plot because so far, there’s a lot of character description and less action, so I’m waiting for the plot twist. In the beginning, the author focuses on describing in detail who the characters are and she doesn’t reveal that Poirot is a detective in the first chapter. She leaves out so many clues and only introduces them when you least expect it. The book also frustrated me a bit because I expected it to instantly get into the murder and detective aspect. You first learn about who all of Poirot’s acquaintances are (colonel Arbuthnot, Mary Debenham, Ratchett) so knowing what these characters’ purpose is and what role they will play in the book will come after.
