Hungergames!!!!!!!!! idk, it happened real fast

message 2: by SD (new) - rated it 5 stars

SD Yeah, too fast. Although I like Maxon and America together, I like the idea of Aspen being available in case...

Kela Esther I thought it was too convenient.

Hungergames!!!!!!!!! Esther wrote: "I thought it was too convenient."

yes, exactly

Kela Esther But then, that entire ending was way too convenient too.

Nikita I like them together. Lucy deserves someone like him and I really didn't like Aspen and America together.

Christina Nikita wrote: "I like them together. Lucy deserves someone like him and I really didn't like Aspen and America together."

yeah. I agree.

Clàudia I think Lucy deserves someone better than Aspen. I don't like him because at the end when Maxon sees him and America together is really unfair that just because Ashton realises too late that he has made the wrong decision gets what he wants and America gets hurt.

gina Well I was really surprised when Kiera cass reveals to us that they love each other I don't know why but I imagined americas maids to be all old and that got me thinking that they weren't that old I liked how that happen though so it could make him move on from america and it was easier for her to get married to maxon knowing aspen has someone else to love and she wouldn't feel guilty

Brittany (Brittany's Book Rambles) Like Esther said above, I think it was too convenient. It was out of nowhere as well, there was no evidence that they were ever together. Throughout the trilogy it's written as if Aspen is still in love with America and then BOOM, sudden he loves Lucy. I don't know. It was executed poorly and was too easy of a patch up of Aspen and America's relationship.

Kela Esther Brittany (Brittany's Book Rambles) wrote: "Like Esther said above, I think it was too convenient. It was out of nowhere as well, there was no evidence that they were ever together. Throughout the trilogy it's written as if Aspen is still in..."

Exactly! If there had been any indication even that Aspen was trying to get over America at any point of book 3, maybe it would have been believable, but I just couldn't believe it. And honestly, it kind of seemed pathetic that they ended up together because he needs someone to protect and Lucy needs to be protected?

Hungergames!!!!!!!!! it was confusing, but there is going to be a 4th book, so maybe it will explain it more

Brittany (Brittany's Book Rambles) Esther wrote: "Brittany (Brittany's Book Rambles) wrote: "Like Esther said above, I think it was too convenient. It was out of nowhere as well, there was no evidence that they were ever together. Throughout the t..."

The only evidence that we had that there was something between them is when America returned home, and Aspen was looking at Lucy talking to America about her. But it was brief and not enough to make it believable that they developed a relationship that allowed Aspen to finally move on from America. Also, it makes the way that Maxon discovers them even more idiotic. If he was not in love with America at that point, him talking to her that way and grabbing her..was just overdramatic and unnecessary.

Kela Esther Hungergames!!!!!!!! the next book is about their daughter going through her own Selection. I don't think we're going to get any kind of explanation.

Britanny, I totally didn't catch that! But I agree. That isn't enough to believe they were in a relationship with and that whole scene with Aspen, America, and Maxon at the end was definitely rubbed me the wrong way. It was over-dramatic and ridiculous and Maxon's reaction was stupid. (One of his guards was grabbing his future wife and rather than react to that, suddenly he knows this is who America was in a relationship with???) And I agree. Aspen grabbing her was not the actions of someone who isn't in love with someone else anymore.

message 15: by Leah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leah I like the idea of Aspen and Lucy, because I like Maxon and America together. I didn't care who Aspen fell in love with in the end because I wasn't a fan of his character. He was too clingy. At least with Lucy, he can move on from America.

Exactly! That moment actually really enraged me. I think Cass was trying to play with how America repeatedly lied to Maxon, so when he saw them it was like suddenly all of the pieces of the puzzle fit, but it just didn't work. It would have made more sense if Maxon walked up, grabbed America out of Aspen's arms and started yelling at Aspen for harassing one of his ladies. Then there could have been a dramatic scene where Maxon has his other guards seized Aspen and then America gets all emotional and begs for him to be released and then Maxon pieced it all together. That would have made Maxon's reaction realistic. Otherwise, we have to assume Maxon is psychic haha.

Oh I didn't care who Aspen got with or if he ended up with no one as long as Maxon and America were together. I also wasn't a fan of his character. I just thought his relationship with Lucy was too quick of a wrap up to his and America's relationship. It was the easy way out. Plus, as I originally said above, it seemed like through most of the book that Aspen was still in love with America. I would have bought into his relationship with Lucy more if there was more evidence of it.

Varsha Well, it was really confusing, there was no evidence that Lucy or Aspen liked the other, and it happened so quickly, you wonder if it was an after thought to finish up the character Aspen. Kiera Cass didn't write about how America would feel about that. Also, Anne liked Aspen!! So wouldn't America feel weird that two of her maids liked one guy, and one maid died, so the other one got him?! But, it also makes sense that there wasn't too much elaboration on Lucy and Aspen because America would have been too caught up in Maxon, and her wedding to really pay attention to theirs.
I was honestly too focused on America/Maxon issue to really get mad at Lucy/Aspen.

YES!! What she did just didn't work, but like Leah and you said, who even cared at that point what happened to Aspen? If this series ever becomes a movie/tv series, I hope they fix some of those little holes without compromising the characters like they did last round.

I feel like everything at the end was a little rushed. As much as I adore this series, I feel like Lucy just happened to be there when Aspen needed her and vice versa. I am glad that America wound up with Maxon, but I do think that Aspen just falling into love with Lucy was a bit strange.

Sophia I think that was soo perfect! It gave Apen the same fairytale ending that America got. It was just beautiful<333

Carla Campàs I think that at least they are both happy and safe. I am glad that Aspen wasn't too broken with how she left with Maxon and I am glad that Lucy found someone because I really love her.

message 23: by Monique (new)

Monique I'm glad that Aspen found someone to love and give all his passion to, however I feel that Cass used Lucy to oust the flame that was Anne. I get that she wanted Lucy to have a happy ending, as she did for most of her characters I believe, but to me she didn't exactly give Anne a fighting chance. Anne was mentioned to Aspen once after making her affections known to America. It's clearer to me now though that Cass may have never intended Anne to be with Aspen, for in The Prince & The Guard, Aspen developed feelings for Lucy and had already made ties with her father. It's tragic in a way because it seemed as if Anne was disposed of, like trash, she was a character with loose ends I guess. Aspen said he couldn't date her because she was rigid, and so Cass I guess did her the biggest kindest and killed her off so that she'd never have to know if he ever even liked her at all, or that he thought she was too rigid. It's sad really. All in all, I really am glad Aspen is happy, I just wished Anne would've gotten that happily ever after as well.

Ruth Esther wrote: "I thought it was too convenient."

I totally agree with you and it happened way too fast.

Annie Way to weird. Aspen loves America but moves on to Lucy, who is the complete opposite of America.

Salome Esther wrote: "But then, that entire ending was way too convenient too."

My thought exactly. I saw this series going in a whole different direction than it did. I expected her to get kicked out (either the king kicked her out, or Maxon found out about Aspen). And that she would join the rebels. I felt the ending in general was too convenient and a bit of a cop out.

As for Aspen and Lucy, she threw in several hints to it. Aspen kept trying to talk to America to tell her he wasn't in love with her anymore (it was obvious), he suggested Lucy go on the trip over Anne, and he reacted strangely when America suggested he date Anne. THen I knew for certain it was going on when Lucy got all upset at America's house when she found out about the Aspen/America history.

Salome Annie wrote: "Way to weird. Aspen loves America but moves on to Lucy, who is the complete opposite of America."

I actually think Lucy is opposite of America in all the ways that work for Aspen. He wanted to take care of someone and be their knight in shining armor. America didn't need nor want that. He could take care of Lucy, which she truly appreciated. I think it's a cute romance. It feels rushed because we didn't see it happen first hand. Although Cass did hint at it several times.

Brenda I don't want to be mean or anything but, I think Aspen was a huge jerk throughout America's entire selection. It wasn't at all fair to America when Aspen kept saying he loved her making America feel guilty; while he had Lucy on the side the entire time. Especially towards the end of the book while they were flying back to the palace, Aspen kept saying he loved America. Yes, he may have been trying to tell America that he found someone else whom he really likes "loves", but wouldn't he have just said it, and not take so long to get to the point?
Although Aspen was a nice guy and all he just needed to cool down his "jealousy" and let America go. In the end would he have even went back with America if she didn't stay with Maxon? Was his feelings for Lucy even real?

chinami i thought it was fast too.

message 30: by Aurora (new) - added it

Aurora I definitely agree that aspen should not be with america. Honestly, I think everyone expected america to end up with maxon, because that was the point of the book. If they didn't end up together it would have just been silly. Im really glad lucy was with aspen though, because after all that girl went through, she needed someone kind to protect her. If anyone was going to be with aspen, im glad it was lucy.

Maddie OK, this happened far too fast. Like, when the rebels attacked at the end of The One (SPOILER!), Maxon and America knew they were supposed to be together. Kind of like the Matched Trilogy, where Xander and Cassia knew each other forever and loved each other, but Cassia and Ky were the perfect match. Same thing with Aspen and America. But whereas in Reached (SPOILER!) Lei and Xander grew to know each other better and gradually fell in love. Aspen and Lucy were just like that at the end. I knew Lucy liked him, but Aspen wasn't interested. So I felt confused at the end. They are a fantastic couple, but I think Kiera Cass should've added more details and more plotlines leading up to their love for one another.
