yeah. I agree.

Exactly! If there had been any indication even that Aspen was trying to get over America at any point of book 3, maybe it would have been believable, but I just couldn't believe it. And honestly, it kind of seemed pathetic that they ended up together because he needs someone to protect and Lucy needs to be protected?

The only evidence that we had that there was something between them is when America returned home, and Aspen was looking at Lucy talking to America about her. But it was brief and not enough to make it believable that they developed a relationship that allowed Aspen to finally move on from America. Also, it makes the way that Maxon discovers them even more idiotic. If he was not in love with America at that point, him talking to her that way and grabbing her..was just overdramatic and unnecessary.

Britanny, I totally didn't catch that! But I agree. That isn't enough to believe they were in a relationship with and that whole scene with Aspen, America, and Maxon at the end was definitely rubbed me the wrong way. It was over-dramatic and ridiculous and Maxon's reaction was stupid. (One of his guards was grabbing his future wife and rather than react to that, suddenly he knows this is who America was in a relationship with???) And I agree. Aspen grabbing her was not the actions of someone who isn't in love with someone else anymore.

Exactly! That moment actually really enraged me. I think Cass was trying to play with how America repeatedly lied to Maxon, so when he saw them it was like suddenly all of the pieces of the puzzle fit, but it just didn't work. It would have made more sense if Maxon walked up, grabbed America out of Aspen's arms and started yelling at Aspen for harassing one of his ladies. Then there could have been a dramatic scene where Maxon has his other guards seized Aspen and then America gets all emotional and begs for him to be released and then Maxon pieced it all together. That would have made Maxon's reaction realistic. Otherwise, we have to assume Maxon is psychic haha.

Oh I didn't care who Aspen got with or if he ended up with no one as long as Maxon and America were together. I also wasn't a fan of his character. I just thought his relationship with Lucy was too quick of a wrap up to his and America's relationship. It was the easy way out. Plus, as I originally said above, it seemed like through most of the book that Aspen was still in love with America. I would have bought into his relationship with Lucy more if there was more evidence of it.

I was honestly too focused on America/Maxon issue to really get mad at Lucy/Aspen.

Britanny, I totally didn't catch..."
YES!! What she did just didn't work, but like Leah and you said, who even cared at that point what happened to Aspen? If this series ever becomes a movie/tv series, I hope they fix some of those little holes without compromising the characters like they did last round.
I feel like everything at the end was a little rushed. As much as I adore this series, I feel like Lucy just happened to be there when Aspen needed her and vice versa. I am glad that America wound up with Maxon, but I do think that Aspen just falling into love with Lucy was a bit strange.

I totally agree with you and it happened way too fast.

My thought exactly. I saw this series going in a whole different direction than it did. I expected her to get kicked out (either the king kicked her out, or Maxon found out about Aspen). And that she would join the rebels. I felt the ending in general was too convenient and a bit of a cop out.
As for Aspen and Lucy, she threw in several hints to it. Aspen kept trying to talk to America to tell her he wasn't in love with her anymore (it was obvious), he suggested Lucy go on the trip over Anne, and he reacted strangely when America suggested he date Anne. THen I knew for certain it was going on when Lucy got all upset at America's house when she found out about the Aspen/America history.

I actually think Lucy is opposite of America in all the ways that work for Aspen. He wanted to take care of someone and be their knight in shining armor. America didn't need nor want that. He could take care of Lucy, which she truly appreciated. I think it's a cute romance. It feels rushed because we didn't see it happen first hand. Although Cass did hint at it several times.

Although Aspen was a nice guy and all he just needed to cool down his "jealousy" and let America go. In the end would he have even went back with America if she didn't stay with Maxon? Was his feelings for Lucy even real?
