Yes, Marines are one of the US's military forces. A shooting star would count, but you will need two of them for the points (it says starS)

If you want to consider a book set in Norway, I would recommend The Mercies. It's excellent.

That's one of the things putting me off. I'm not sure how July is going to pan out for me. I have to take 3 days next week to go to Edmonton with my son. No audiobook in the vehicle on the way there. Little time for reading while there. It could take a chunk out of my monthly reading plans.

message 71: by Robin (new)

Robin | 263 comments Interesting! Maybe I'll do it. I saved a screenshot of my fictional person. she's Japanese, Yui Elly. Currently 22 and dies of cancer at 43... tragic. ☹️ I'm sad for this fictional person and get family. what is wrong with me! haha

I guess it would be cheating to keep hitting the generator...?

Depends what you’re looking for Kristie. If it’s fast and easy murder mystery - check out Jeffrey Siger books - first book in the series is Murder in Mykonos. Shhh, don’t tell Cherie or she’ll start a new series!

message 74: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19193 comments lol! I promise not to tell. ;)

Thanks, Lilisa. I honesty don't know what I'm looking for right now, which is part of the problem. I'm just not in the mood for mythology or any of the YA books I'm finding necessarily. I already planned a couple of those reads this month, so I was looking for something different. A murder mystery might just work out and my library has Murder in Mykonos.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments LOL about the series, Lilisa! I did add it to my list though.

Kristie - it sounds like a cliche, but I thought Zorba the Greek was actually an interesting story. It was pretty short too, if I remember.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Robin wrote: "I guess it would be cheating to keep hitting the generator...?"

lol nice try. But that is the lucky of the randomiser I am afraid. There are a lot of good Japanese books around, depending on what you enjoy reading. Publishing dates may be an option too of course.

And nothing wrong with you, a good dose of empathy!

I just checked out Zorba the Greek. GR indicates that I did not read it, but I know that I did. I even checked out the old movie from my library to watch.

I also read all of the Corfu trilogy books. Many people have not liked them, but I thought the stories were facinating. It is a strange family saga, but quick and easy to read. You will not find a more crazy cast of characters either. It was a totally different time in the world and I am sure it could not happen today.

Well, goodreads allows you to sort your shelves by author surnames. That's where I usually start. Not sure of other websites that does exactly what you're asking, but the others may know.

I always start with Goodreads like Rusalka. But Wikipedia is often a good resource. I found this link that takes you to a list of authors starting with A. From there, you can link to the remaining alphabet.

I think searching a character by initial is going to be a tough one.

message 94: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments On the goodreads page for a book you own/want to read, main characters are listed. Can be useful if you only have a handful of books to choose from. I wouldn't want to do it for all the books I own that I am still to read.

Daughter of the Forest has a character named Finbar - spelled a little differently, but would fit this task really well. It's set in ancient Ireland.
