The rules say to choose a book that matches one of the given tasks for the week. How does it work if your book works for several different tasks? Do you just pick one of those at random and hope you picked the one with the highest points? Or do you list all the ones your book qualifies for and it counts for the task with the highest number of points?

Good question. Pick one task. The book you read will get that task's points.

I imagine there will be a lot of speculating on which tasks folks think might have the highest points.

The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen (recently shortened to GISH) is an annual week-long competitive scavenger hunt begun by actor Misha Collins. Teams earn points for submitting photos and videos of themselves completing prompts from a list they receive at the beginning of the week."

Sorry if I'm asking a newbie Q but what's that bit about 'photos and videos'? Is this basically a team-reading event? Or do we actually need to, I dunno, film ourselves reading or whatever?

That was just information about the real week-long GISH scavenger hunt.

All you need to look at is the tasks. For example, here's number 2: "Nothing caps off a good, hot summer day like a foot-long s'mores eaten by two, Lady and the Tramp style. (No hands may be used in the creation or eating of the s'mores.) - read a book with 'lady' or 'tramp' in the text of the book"

First is the GISH task, then there is the prompt (in bold letters) that you might choose to read a book for. Does that make sense?

Correct. I was just letting folks know that more than one team member can read a task.

The points are revealed only after everyone has turned in their Completion Posts. That would be probably Monday morning sometime.

I imagine there will be some discussion on team threads as to which tasks will earn higher points. The trickier the task, the higher the points. Maybe :)

So I am right in thinking that each task has a points value but you can add more points to that value by reading a book that has more pages?

Yes. For example, two tasks are #1 - read a romance and #2 - read a book where the main character climbs Mount Everest. You guess that #2 will earn more points because it is more difficult to find. Reading a book with a lot of pages will get you even more points.

Two questions at the moment Lanelle.

1) The DDBR - does it need to be the same person for all 8 weeks? Or can we switch around? On a rotating schedule between a few team members?

2) What is the point spread for the 26 tasks? Is it 1 to 26 or something else?

It does not need to be the same person. You can take turns.

This week's task point spread is from 12 to 113. For all 208 tasks, the highest is 159. All the rest are random between those two numbers.

Okay one other question. Do we get points for a task PLUS page length, or do we opt for one or the other?

You get points for the task AND the page length.

Is it okay if food is talked about in the book but the recipes are at the back for this task - read a book with a recipe in it (but not a cookbook) ???

So Lanelle, would you say it it is in the center third of the book cover it is ok? Or some other guide?

Do re-reads count, or no? I have a few series I'm rereading and don't want to pick those if it's against the rules. :)

Yes. The edition you read has to have the item on its cover.

I might've missed it, but I wanted to make sure that for "published in 1998" it can be the book you actually read. Or does it have to be the top one when you click on other editions?

Either. The book should have been originally published in 1998, not just the version you read..

For "read a book with a current or former professional athlete in it" -- is this supposed to be an ACTUAL athlete, or can it be a fictional professional athlete?

Are you or someone else going to be checking in on teams to make sure books and points are correct?
Or are you going to have Captains post something in another thread each week?
I did not see anything in the rules other than a total at the end of the game needing to be reported by the Captain or Scorekeeper.

I'll start a reporting thread Friday where Captains or Scorekeepers can post their teams weekly score. I'll have a sample report to follow.

It says for the Captains to check in their teams each week, where do we do this just on our main page thread? Thanks

Selection Posts are so your Captain knows that you are aware of the tasks, have made a choice, and have begun to read. They are not necessary.

Completions Posts are mandatory.
