Here is a thread where all members of our group can keep track of their favorite 10 books this year. Even though the year just began, it's fun for me to keep a running tally of my favorite books throughout the year. I've done this in the past in other groups and really enjoyed it. It's interesting to see how a book that I thought was really good in January holds up through the months. It can get a bit tricky after getting your top ten up there, then having to like something well enough to drop one off the list. It's also a good place for group members to see what everyone is reading and how much they liked it.

It's already getting hard for me. My top two are almost a tie but I have to give the edge to Virgil.

Sharon, I have a Thomas Perry novel titled Silence that I have had for quite a few years now and haven't gotten around to reading. Since he's at your top spot, maybe I should move this book up and read it sooner rather than later.

I've always enjoyed Perry's "Jane" series, though I suspect A String of Beads may move down the list over the year's time, just the best so far. Thomas Perry is one of my top-10 mystery authors but is a bit 'uneven' for me at times. If you have not read any of his books before, I would suggest starting with "The Butcher's Boy" which is a true classic. Silence is good (I don't think Perry does 'bad') but a little slower paced than some. Dead Aim and Death Benefits are probably my personal favorites of his stand-alones and Metzger's Dog, though the first of three about the same characters, it can be read alone and has a definite twist of humor, unlike most of his others.

Thank you for the info. I'm going to give him a shot.

Sharon Michael | 46 comments Perry has 'held up' well for me as an author. I read his first book "The Butcher's Boy" shortly after it was written in the early 80s, followed by "Metzger's Dog" and I've been reading him ever since.

I think I'm going to add all these books to my wishlist. They look great. Thanks.
