Roger Kean | 17278 comments From the high podium, Rick, congratulations on coming second :)

As a child:

1) Whenever I read the name Claude I always read Calude

2) I was convinced the word was spelled Rabit (not bunny)

3) My reading/writing problems (as above) were due to my dyslexia

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Richmal Crompton's Brilliant "Just William" books captivated me as a child, and I so so so hated his arch-enemy Calude. It was my mother, when I told her how much I hated Calude, looked puzzled, checked over my shoulder and destroyed my life by telling me it was Claude. I mean, Claude is simply not an evil enough name! And, alas alack, it was as late as meeting Oliver that I learned I'd been spelling rabbit wrong all those years. I mean really, who needs two Bs to spell rabit?

So Preston got it right. I am not dyslexic just a rotten speller, but don't get me started on numbers…

Did you pronounce it "Cal-ood" or "Cal-ud" or perhaps "Caul-ud"? But yes, I get your point. I had several such mispronunciations myself, but I can't think of any right at the moment. As for Rabbit? Um, "rab-bit" should be the giveaway. ;)

I've been on the other end of this as well. I wrote a story with the main character's name being Gryphen. And a friend read and said she liked the character "Grip-hen" and I responded "Who?"
He was, of course, the main character. I've since changed the spelling to Griffin.

Was it your plan to hold out until you had won in both "Find the Truth" AND "Find the Lie" ;)

message 1763: by Absinthe (new)

Absinthe wait, doesn't that mean I lost since this is find the lie?

Preston | 20148 comments Sis you are so nice to stick up for me but I screwed up. I don't care that I'm a bozo mixing up the games; I said Kit won. That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

Go for it Kit

Absinthe Roger you are correct....my language and perception prof is this adorable old guy who gets really excited about the subject and unfortunately teaches a bunch of mostly asleep students at eight in the morning

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Oh my, it's me! Er, well, let's see… oh, I know:

A number of well known arty people have collected Oliver Frey's illustrations, among them

1) David Hockney

2) Russell T. Davies

3) Boris Johnson

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Rick is correct London's current mayor has never collected an Oli Frey (at least, not that I know), whereas the others have. Hockney used to send his mime-actor bf round to Heaven disco to collect event posters' a/w. Russell T. has an amorous Dalek getting friendly with a young man.

Preston has some pieces too, but he isn't "arty" (just clever, wonderful, generous, handsome, magnificent, and… checks made out to R.M. Kean please)

message 1782: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments 1) I once dated a porn star (no, I'm NOT saying who it is).

2) I, briefly, dated a stripper/Gogo-boy (not exactly a 1-night stand, more like a 3-date fling).

3) Someone I knew in high school went on to do a spread as the centerfold in a magazine to pay for some of his college expenses. We dated for a bit in our mid-late 20s.

Roger Kean | 17278 comments 1 because no one dates a porn star; you're either out of it because you swooned, or slung over the shoulder (or dragged by the hair) and had.

Rick | 15794 comments Roger wrote: "1 because no one dates a porn star; you're either out of it because you swooned, or slung over the shoulder (or dragged by the hair) and had."

Don't know about your reasoning, but you are correct Roger, I have never dated a porn star.

message 1787: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I'm sure my reasoning is, as always, impeccable, but if you think you know better…:)

But you did enjoy the other experiences. The nearest I got to dating a stripper/Gogo-boy (and that wasn't very near) was George Michael before Wham, when he go-goed at BANG gay disco in London's Charing Cross Road. On the other hand, as a ahem model photographer I did date a few centerfolds.

I've seen live performances by these three legendary bands…

1) Julie Driscoll and the Brian Auger & the Trinity

2) Pink Floyd

3) The Yardbirds (with Eric Clapton)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Okay! Kit, you are the winner!. Amazingly, since they played often at North London venues and clubs like the Marquee (to which I escaped boarding school at night to visit) I never got to see the Yardbirds live (with Eric Clapton, too :(

Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger & the Trinity I saw live at a dance in Hitchin before they made it into the UK Top 10 chart singing that very song, and Pink Floyd kicked off a number of shows at Hornsey College of Art.
