Marcie | 7096 comments I'm here...*patting Roger on the back* mornin' y'all!

#2

message 206: by Roger (last edited Feb 10, 2015 07:23AM) (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Marcie wins!
1) Famous Polish film director Andrzej Wajda reckoned The Telltale Heart, a b/w 35mm studio short, was the best film of the year at London Film School.

3) Famous British film director Lindsay Anderson, not only lived a few doors away when I lived in London, he invited me to watch rushes (dailies) of his latest movie, which was a Gordon's Gin ad, to my disappointment! He actually did pat me on my back.

2) Famous British James Bond film director Guy Hamilton was course director for one term at London Film School and his term ended with students going off to make a 16mm TV commercial. Oliver and I picked Blue Band margarine and Guy thought it was the most worthless piece of crap he'd ever seen anyone make. He definitely did not pat me on the back!!

message 207: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments Thank-ya. Have to finish getting ready for work. Will check-in later!

message 208: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments So did Andrzej Wajda pat you on the back?

message 209: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Yes, he did, and Oli, and Denis Borrow who was lighting-cameraman, but not Hannanyah Stern (Israeli) who was supposed to be camera operator but who was dead useless. Andrej sat in the row behind us in the film school viewing theatre and while he liked the look and feel of the film, the pace and everything, he did complain that the lead actor playing the murderer was terribly "Vooden". Unfortunately, the actor was sat right in front.

message 210: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Lindsay Anderson
Born 17 April 1923
Bangalore, British India
Died 30 August 1994 (aged 71)
Angoulême, France

Too bad he didn't live to read Harry's Great Trek. Having been born in India and gone to English boarding schools plus during World War II serving as a cryptographer for the Intelligence Corps stationed India, he might have turned your book into a film.

message 211: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments 1) i weigh 10 pounds less now after having my 2 kids than i did when i was in high school.

2) i always exercise wheter it's here at home or in the gym.

3) my wardrove has now double thanks to my 12 yr. old son getting to a size i can also fit into.

message 212: by Absinthe (new)

Absinthe three

message 213: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments 1) :-)

@ Preston, re: Lindsay Anderson, and given that he was pre-gay he would have liked the story from that aspect as well. Interestingly (perhaps) the public school Richard & Edward Rainbow attended with Harry, Benthenham College, is based on the real Cheltenham College where Anderson filmed much of If. The other school used extensively, Aldenham, was a short bicycle ride from where I lived, and a few times I visited a boy there who had been at my Cotswolds prep school, Idlicote House, the model for Harry's parents' country home, Hadlicote House.

message 214: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments 2. Nobody always exercises.

message 215: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments 1) is true. i do weigh less now (about 113). not intetionally of course. guess the secret is called: Kids/stress :)

2) i have never exercised or stepped foot in a gym. so this is a lie.

3) my son has now grown into a size that also fits me. so everything i buy him now is with me in mind.
#KiddingNotKidding ;-P

your turn, pres!

message 216: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments 1) I use drugs.
2) I haven't been hugged all year.
3) I proofread Roger's last book.

message 217: by Absinthe (new)

Absinthe 1

message 218: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments 1) can be "legal" drugs. although come to think of it w/some of those answers you been giving in the games.... ;-P

2) say whhaa'?! i mean, hello! *pointing to myself*

so by process of elimination that leads me to believe #3 is a lie.

message 219: by Marcie (last edited Feb 11, 2015 08:52PM) (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments Ok. That totally did not make sense. I think pres's drugs are rubbing off on me.
Correction: number #2 is the lie.

message 220: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Marcie is right. Number 3 was a lie. If I proofread a book I'm so bad at it I'd probably add typos instead of catching them.

@Marcie In reply to "say whhaa'?! i mean, hello!" I didn't say extremely satisfying virtual hugs so your hugs were too good to be called just plain hugs. I just said hugs so it made the answer true.

@Kit, I have taken some over the counter expectorant when I had a cough. Plus somehow despite my fine landscaping company's efforts I ended up with weed and decided the best way to get rid of it was to burn it.

message 221: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments actually, i'm wrong pres. i ended up changing my answer. and i think i ended up posting it while you were typing up yours. *pouting* daing it!....

Psssst. Roger? choose #3. trust me on this one

pres:"...your hugs were too good to be called just plain hugs." i will have to agree w/you on this ;-P

oh, and bro, when you say: "...best way to get rid of it was to burn it." ..... ;-P

message 222: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments I win and I give my turn to Roger Kean

message 223: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments 1) I have exchanged friendly emails with Queer As Folk creator and Doctor Who revivalist Russell T. Davies

2) I wish I could stop it but I'm forever snacking between meals

3) I once knelt on the work of a member of the Royal Family

message 224: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments #3

message 225: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I'm getting confused between truths and lies! :-) Let's see if anyone else can spot the lie…

message 226: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments #2 is the lie

message 227: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments roger, me too!

message 228: by Absinthe (new)

Absinthe i say one, but damn I totally believe it, also I'm jealous because queer as folk (british original version) is one of my favorite shows ever

message 229: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments 1) Rather more to Oliver's influence than mine directly, Russell T. Davies and I have exchanged emails. Russell grew through challenging teenage years as a gay-aware boy in South Wales and always claimed that the comic strips Oliver drew for endless HIM Monthly magazines sustained him. A bit later a serious "soap" strip Oli did for HIM called The Street caught Russell's eye. It was about a "nice" late teen who has run away from a stifling little-town life to London and discovers life isn't as straightforward as he'd hoped. Russell said it helped inspire the situation and some of the characters of QAF.

2) My prep school in the Cotswold Hills had a Norman-period chapel, tiny thing, and the wooden kneeling boards in the ancient pews were softened by cushioned kneelers, each of some 50 of them hand crocheted by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and given to the school as a gift to the headmaster's family who were related to the Bowes-Lyons. Only senior boys (ie 12, 13) were allowed to actually kneel on them because we were allowed to wear long pants for Sunday services and therefore our dirty knees wouldn't soil the kneelers.

So 3) is the lie. I have never snacked between meals. As a child my many aunts and uncles would bring candies, chocolates, and other things, which went into a cupboard. When my two closest cousins came to stay they made a beeline for the candy cupboard. always amazed at the goodies stacked in there, which I never ate!

Over to moderator… :-)

message 230: by Roger (last edited Feb 13, 2015 01:00AM) (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments 9 covers of the "New" HIM which I edited between 1981–82 after selling the publishing company Street Level Ltd to the Millivres-Prowler group.

Theses are the issues containing The Street as well as loads of other Oliver Frey / Zack artwork

message 231: by Absinthe (new)

Absinthe why do have such an awesome life Roger?

message 232: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Perhaps that should be "did" ! And perhaps it comes of being as old as I am!

message 233: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments 1. I am always late.
2. I was born in Albany Medical Center Hospital
3. I have a lawn service in summer and snow removal service in winter.

message 234: by Absinthe (new)

Absinthe one (no one can always be late)

message 235: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments @ roger: pretty neat! thanks for sharing!

since you had access to "weed" i'm thinking 3 has to be true. and i'm with kit on 1. so i will have to choose #2

message 236: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments #1 is the truth Kit. In my adult life I have never been on time for anything. My family and friends know to add a half hour to any time I say I will be someplace.

#3 is the truth

#2 is the lie

Marcie Wins!!!

message 237: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments @Roger Suddenly hit me that HIM magazine bottom right painting is the one I've seen online. So that's where the innocent boy art came from! a smut magazine :-)

message 238: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments @ Preston. Indignation! The "New" HIM wasn't smut… really, and how better to welcome June and Wimbledon than with strawberries and cream…?:-)

message 239: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Waiting for Sis. (tapping foot :-)

message 240: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments sorry, bro....i'm here. i was going to give my turn to kit, but since some people are waiting impatiently... ;-P

1) 4 out of the 5 trees i have in my yard are fruit trees.

2) I drive a 4x4 extended cab truck.

3) My property has no sidewalk.

message 241: by Absinthe (new)

Absinthe 3

message 242: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments I wanted three but since Kit so smartly took it will choose 1. (That you drive a truck wouIdn't surprise me. I'm certain you could drive a truck if you needed one to pick up another fruit tree to plant.

My choice is 1.

message 243: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments 2) because that's scary.

message 244: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments 3) i live out in the country. houses on my side of town have no sidewalk.

1) i do have 4 fruit trees in my backyard: plum, pomogranate, mandarin, & nectarine (that one is done for tho. need to replant).

2) 2 roger: lol me driving a truck? or trucks in general? i have driven a truck before. but no, i don't own one.

your turn roger!

message 245: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments We call trucks lorries here in Britland, and I don't know why. A "truck" is usually considered to be more like an American pickup.

1) I had a lab called Spiky

2) I've been on a greasy pole (more than once)

3) I'm Scottish

message 246: by Marcie (new)

Marcie | 7096 comments i am so smiling w/#2. oh roger, the picture you have painted :)

but i must go w/#3.

message 247: by Preston, Moderator (last edited Feb 15, 2015 06:02PM) (new)

Preston | 20148 comments 1. Is the lie. —i win after Roger confirms it.

2. In the photo of him on the greasy pole he is such a teen heartthrob and brave.
3. He is indeed Scottish but only partly. The part that lusts for Sean Connery.

message 248: by Roger (last edited Feb 16, 2015 12:31AM) (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments #1 — Oli and I had a white labrador called Spiky when living in London (true)

#2 — About to fall off the first time: (aboard the MV Appapa)

(true)

#3 — I'm half Scottish on my father's side, so not wholly Scottish (lie)

Which weirdly means Preston's right but for the wrong answer ?!

message 249: by Preston, Moderator (last edited Feb 16, 2015 08:13AM) (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Roger wrote: "#1 — Oli and I had a white labrador called Spiky when living in London (true)"

What game are you playing—3 truths?

Besides you gave up Spiky so you don't deserve to say you had him. Had him for how long before you abandoned him to other people. He belonged to the people who really cared for him and didn't just give him away because he was inconvenient.

Shame, shame shame! you, you, you dog abandoner!

Harumph.

message 250: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments We had him for almost a year :::sob sob:::

I think as almighty Mod you ought to blackmail Lori into having a go… :-))
