I started it, but I haven't finished all the chapter for today; I'm somewhere in the middle of chapter 10.
Like with the 99% of the books I start, I haven't read what the book is about which mostly has good results. So, I didn't know what to expect and I loved that. I don't have much to say for now, but I'm enjoying it and it's nicely written, you know those books that you just fly through because they are easy to read? this is it.

I’m starting it as soon as I get home from work! Can’t wait to sit by the pool with it.

I'm behind on today's chapters, but I'll catch up tomorrow.
I just have to say that it's giving me Red Rising vibes.

I’m not even going to lie, I’m really not liking it so far. I don’t know why but, for some reason, it just doesn’t sit right with me.

I get that. I haven't read the sequel because IMO I haven't been motivated to pick it up after the ending of this book. I'm curious to see what you guys think after the ending.

So, a funny thing happened.
I said I liked and enjoyed the first 10 chapters... and then I finally finished the first 13 chapters, and in the last one where Laia goes to be Commandant's slave I was so annoyed with her.. that I was commenting things in my head.
If things continue like this I might dislike Laia. She's a coward, but she wants to help her brother.. okay. She's scared of the Commandant and what could/will happen to her... and then she doesn't listen to the simple instruction that'll help her, "head down, keep quiet" nooo, she stares around. Gaah.. And then when Elias sees her for the first time *eye roll*
I'm gonna listen to the book later.

I was thinking the same thing about her! Not only is she a coward but she seems to always be throwing a pity party for herself. Glad someone else agrees!

I definitely find Laia a bit whiney. Also, I'm up to chapter 35 and I think she's pretty naive too, as if she can't notice what's happening around her and needing others to get her out of trouble.
It's interesting that the MCs have other love interests. I like that, but I'm also used to the MCs ending together that I find it a bit weird. At this point (the beginning of chapter 17) I prefer Elias' chapters over the miss bad spy. Also, I find it very stupid that she gave Maz only one letter to see.. like can you be a worse spy?
Chapter 21. It's a miracle she's not dead if the Cook gathered she's a spy for the Resistance.
Chapter 25. Let's say I'm just super paranoid or maybe just not stupid, but Laia telling Izzi things she's doing, where she's going... doesn't sound like a good idea.
I'm up to chapter 25. And for some stupid reason I wanted to see the other books in the series so I read the synopsis of book two which wasn't spoilery, but the book 3 synopsis 😬 I guess, I wasn't really caring for this book that much not to look at things that could spoil things.

I did the same thing with the synopsis of the next books.

I’m a day behind because I worked a looooooong double yesterday but I’m planning on finishing today since it’s my off day! I honestly prefer Elias’ chapters over Laia’s, too. I just think he has more common sense!
If we pretend that Laia doesn't exist... I'm back to enjoying it, and it is an easy read.
The third trial.. damn, brutal... but I like it.
So, I finished it. I have no idea why I had problems picking it back up the last few days, because I enjoyed listening to it these past two days. First I didn't think I'll want to pick the sequel.. but now, yeah.. it's going on my unfinished series shelf.
I have to say that I was super annoyed by the love square, I wouldn't have minded it that much if it had been well done.

Mina, I’m the same way! I definitely didn’t want to pick it up but now I’m okay with it...definitely won’t be continuing with the series, though. I had such high hopes for this book considering how hyped it was but I was let down, honestly. :(
I know people like it but I wasn't active on GR at the time this came out and probably was super hyped so that has no impact on me. I think that Havenfall and Once & Future ruined my end of the previous month/beginning of this month so after that books are wow. At first I thought I wouldn't want to continue with the series, but by the end I changed my mind and I'll give the second book a chance.
@Laura Since you liked the book, do you want to buddy read the second, but next month? I usually have problems picking up sequels on my own, reading it with someone should help.
I’m still a day behind..I ended up in the hospital this morning but couldn’t even pick up my book so I’m gonna start reading here in a few. Hopefully I’ll finish tomorrow!
there's no rush.. I mean, there's still time till the end of the month for the points 😂
Are you okay?
Are you okay?
Yeah I’m okay! Almost had to get stitches in my lip but I didn’t so that’s good...just bit through it, cracked a couple of teeth, and scratched my hand up pretty good.

That would be great :)

Ouch! Glad you're okay
