Jen (jenius05) | 36 comments I think you will have a difficult time finding everything you like in a single author.

Sherrilyn Kenyon's NIGHT PLAY is a good paranormal romance with a bbw.

In fantasy, the Abhorson trilogy by Garth Nix is an epic story.

Try a few of the indie authors that have posted here. Usually you can find a review and a blurb which will inform your purchase.

Also, Goodreads has plenty of book challenges that have suggested reading and review groups that read the same book and review it. Jessica's Book of the Month group I one I am a part of and this group rads a variety of indie authors and genres.

KK (kk567) | 20 comments Hi, welcome to reading. I have been thinking about your question and unfortunately most paranormal books I can think of have the alpha male tendencies. But there are a few you may want to look at that have male characters that are not necessarily submissive but do kinda take a backseat and let the strong female chapters shine. The hunger games series is one and also possibly Kim Harrison's Hollows series. When you read the blurb for them they sound a little hokey but it is actually one of my favorite series. Feel free to check out my book shelves

Missyb | 493 comments Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1, Demonica, #6) by Larissa Ione these two series the characters are in both & one leads into the other. Apocalyptic. I never read apocalyptic books but loved these.
Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, #1) by G.A. Aiken very strong women characters with non-doormat guys.
Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs she's a coyote shifter living among wolf shifters & holds her own.

Patricia Briggs is wonderful!

R&R Express (rrexpress) | 5 comments I think you might like books by K.F.Breene. I just finished her Darkness series and loved Sasha. Her main love interest is still an alpha male, but in the series she grows (over the series) to be his equal. She shows strength or she shows humor, her personality is pretty entertaining despite the stereotypical alpha male relationship attraction. Sasha's interactions with the other male protagonists typically project more strength except you have the typical "dealing with new powers" issues. This is a series where she grows into her powers as well as her role. I LOVE the character, as her internal dialogue really reminds me of Bruce Willis' dry humor. I am going to purchase her book "Chosen" later tonight to start tomorrow. She also has very few grammatical errors which is good for me, since I really get hung up on those.

Jade Stone | 5 comments you should try hollowland by Amanda shocking it's about zombies and the main character is a girl

Kay (❦ ᴗ ❦ ✿) BooksandMe (iamkayiee) | 28 comments You can try Elemental Assassin Series by Jennifer Estep.

Alexandra Engellmann (engellmann) | 15 comments Totally agree on the Millennium series, and still Lisbeth is one of my favorite characters both in literature and cinema. A friend of mine recommended me The Shining Girls but I haven't read it yet. Overall, in your post you practically described my book, but I don't want to sound like I'm promoting it here or something, no :) I'm actually looking for the same type of books, so your post have been helpful.

Dee (phonebooklady) In answer to your first paragraph........ Hunted (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #6) by Kevin Hearne

Rachel | 192 comments If you're into SciFi/dystopian, check out Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

For fantasy with a strong female lead and superpowers, try The Conduit (Gryphon, #1) by Stacey Rourke (ignore the cheesy SPA cover. The book is actually really funny)

Superpowers but with a male lead: Vicious by V.E. Schwab

For paranormal, think about trying Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) by Karina Halle

Also, this fantasy has a strong female lead and crazy-good world-building The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1) by Samantha Shannon

I second Dee's rec of the Iron Druid Chronicles!

I'll see if I can't think of some more

Rachel | 192 comments Two more fantasy series:

The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima - strong female, wizzards

The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) by Rae Carson - she's BBW in the beginning (and makes a big deal about how she likes to eat), but does lose the weight if that makes a difference or not

Kay (❦ ᴗ ❦ ✿) BooksandMe (iamkayiee) | 28 comments Millennium Series, that is my all time favorite. I wish there more, though.
