Karly | 342 comments Hello! Was able to get some long waiting TBR’s off the shelf this month. That always feels like an accomplishment.

The Secret Lives of Color - Kassia St. Clair. 4 stars. Extremely fascinating stories about colors, some shades I’ve never heard of. Who knew there was such history behind color?

Killers of the Flower Moon - David Grann. 5 stars. Wow. Incredible story, I read it in 3 days. It’s insane (and awful) that its all true.

Trees: Between Earth and Heaven - Gregory McNamee. 5 stars. Part of my quest to read through various coffee table books. Photos in this are gorgeous.

The Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali - Swami Satchidananda. 3 stars.

Bonfire - Krysten Ritter. 4 Stars.

Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore - Matthew Sullivan. 2 stars. This read very flat to me.

Calypso - Davis Sedaris. 4 stars.

Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex - Mary Roach. 4 stars.

Happy reading everyone!

Dawn | 1371 comments Getting old TBR's off my list has been one of the few upsides to quarantining and the library being closed for me too. Great month for you!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16937 comments Karly: The Trees photo book sounds very soothing and nice for these trying times.
I haven't been able to forget Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI which was a group read and very disturbing. I'm glad I read it.
I was pleasantly surprised I liked Krysten Ritter's Bonfire. I picked it up to read before realizing I had seen her acting on Breaking Bad.
I recall being a bit underwhelmed by Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore but ended up giving it 4 stars. I suppose something in it redeemed it for me but no clue what it was now. (read in 2017)

Karly | 342 comments Ann - yes! Pleasantly surprised with Bonfire. I also liked how she included a companion playlist at the end of the book that helps create the mood.
Bright Ideas bookstore was very underwhelming indeed - I feel like the bones of the plot could have been really interesting but it perhaps was executed better?
And yes Killers of the Flower Moon is definitely one that’s going to stick with me. I may go into your group discussion and see what other insights I can glean.
And trees are always helpful, especially now!

My library bookclub read and discussed Killers of the Flower Moon Together. Such a sad story and history I had no idea about.
